## What is Quill?

Quill keeps what you write on this iPhone. No account, no sign-up, and no server of ours — so there is no company that could read your diary, and that includes us.

LOCK IT
A four-digit PIN and Face ID. Quill asks when it opens, and again after thirty seconds away. Forget the PIN and a recovery code lets you back in. The preview in the App Switcher is covered.

WRITE
Bold, italic, underline, colour, links, bullets, numbers and checklists. Three photos in an entry — twenty with Pro. A mood, in words rather than stickers. Tags. Write up a day you missed, however far back. Your draft is saved while you type, so a crash or a flat battery takes nothing with it.

FIND IT AGAIN
Full-text search across every entry, on the device, in milliseconds. Filter by tag, mood, photos, favourites or a range of dates. A month calendar shows the days you wrote on. On this day brings back the same date from earlier years, and stays quiet when there is nothing to show.

BRING AN OLD DIARY OVER
Import from Day One, Apple Journal, a folder of Markdown, or plain text and CSV. You see how many entries and photos were found before anything is written. Import the same file twice and nothing is duplicated.

TAKE EVERYTHING OUT AGAIN
Export to PDF, to a book with a cover and contents by month, or to Markdown with your photos in a folder. With or without Pro, and after you stop using Quill.

BACKED UP TO YOUR OWN iCLOUD
Entries and photos travel through your private iCloud database. Not ours. Turn it off and Quill still works, entirely on the phone.

QUILL PRO
Draw a page by hand with a finger or a Pencil, and open it later to carry on. Record a voice note — five a page, five minutes each — kept inside the entry. Scan a page of a paper notebook and have the writing read into it, shown to you to correct before anything is added. Share an entry as a card that starts with no words at all, only the date, and lets you choose how much more to include. More than one mood a day. Twenty photos an entry, reading fonts and sizes, more notebooks, your streak on the home-screen widget, advanced search filters, and the place and weather noted with each entry.

Not a subscription. The lock, iCloud backup, import, export, search, memories from past years and the daily reminder are not behind Pro and never will be.

Sketch with a finger or a Pencil. A drawing keeps its strokes, so you can open it later and carry on rather than start again.

RECORD A VOICE NOTE (Pro)
Up to five notes an entry, five minutes each. They stay inside the entry — on your iPhone and, if you use it, your own iCloud.

SCAN A PAPER PAGE (Pro)
Point the camera at a page from a paper notebook and Quill reads the writing into the entry. It shows you what it read and lets you fix it before anything is added.

SHARE AN ENTRY AS A CARD (Pro)
A picture of a page, for the times you want to show one. It starts with no words at all — just the date — and you choose how much more to include. Photos are never in the card.
