## What is QuillQuest?

Three ways to play — spelling, times tables and division, in one app.

QuillQuest turns practice into an adventure. Pick a subject: in Spelling, hear a word in a clear, natural voice and spell it out letter by letter; in Times Tables, answer on a number pad and climb a trail from the Trailhead to the Summit; in Division, turn those same tables around and work back down. They share one map, one buddy, and one set of stars — kids choose what to play next.

It grows with each kid. QuillQuest starts each kid at a level that fits their age, then adapts as they improve — from first tricky words and easy doubles to spelling-bee stumpers and the toughest facts (6×7, 7×8…). New levels open when you master the last one, not by grinding points, and anything you miss comes back on a smart review schedule until it's locked in. Great for grades 3–8 (roughly ages 8–14) — younger and older learners fit right in too.

Feedback that teaches
• Spelling reads every word aloud in a clear, natural voice — stuck? hear it again, use it in a sentence, or see what it means
• Times Tables shows the answer and a skip-count when you miss — never a harsh buzzer
• Division shows you the multiplication fact behind it, because that is how you work it out: 7 times 8 is 56, so 56 divided by 7 is 8
• Earn ranks, unlock new themes, and collect badges across every subject

Made for families
• Give each kid their own profile — separate progress, streaks, character, and a make-your-own avatar
• A grown-up dashboard shows how they're doing, what to work on in every subject, and how much they've already fixed
• Daily goal starts at 20 answers — change it or switch it off anytime. Reminders stay off unless you turn them on

Two devices? Optional syncing
• Carry progress between a phone and a tablet with a short code — no account, no email, no password
• Off unless a grown-up switches it on, behind a question a young child won't get past
• Only game progress and their cartoon buddy are uploaded — never your child's name or age

School spelling lists, if a teacher uses them
• A teacher hands out a three-character code — type it in and that week's 24 words become a card on the Spelling screen
• Practice them a little each day until every word comes out clean, then take the Final check
• No account, no sign-up, and a grown-up can remove the list at any time
• Nothing about your child leaves the device — unless a grown-up has turned syncing on, and then it is only which list and week they are on, carried with the rest of their progress under the same anonymous code
• Everything else in the game stays exactly as it was

Parents can relax
• Plays offline — no internet needed to play (extra voices & spoken example sentences download once, then live on the device)
• No ads. No tracking. No sign-in. No chat or links out.
• No accounts, ever — syncing uses a code you can throw away, not a login
• Free, with no in-app purchases
• Made by a parent who wanted practice their own kids would actually choose
• Privacy policy: https://quillquest.net/privacy

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-09-11

Got a code from school? Type it yourself, right on the home screen - no grown-up needed unless the code would replace a week someone has already started, move you to the other class list, or put back a list a grown-up removed.

School words, if your teacher uses them: the list shows on every subject's screen, so it is there whichever one you played last. The Final Check opens once 18 of the 24 words are learned, one sit a day, and your best score counts. Sentence and Define no longer count against the week - only Syllables does, and the screen says so before you tap it. Every earlier unit can be played, even the ones you were away for.

A grown-up is asked before a part-finished week is replaced from the parent dashboard, and only when there is practice to lose.

British spellings now count on eleven more words. If you were taught to write practised, aeroplane, judgement, artefacts, defenceless, speciality, fertiliser, appetisers, millimetre or enquiries, those are right - they were being marked wrong.

Large text sizes no longer push the round off the screen, and syncing tells you plainly when the server is having trouble rather than saying you are offline.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-09-03

The word list grew from 3,493 to 5,086 - including a full year of grade-5 classroom vocabulary, the silent-letter words a speller most needs, and forty new homophone pairs that now tell you which one is meant, so ascent and assent are never a coin flip.

School spelling lists are here too. If your teacher uses one of ours, they can hand out a three-character code - type it in and this week's 24 words appear as a card on your Spelling screen. Practice them each day until every word comes out clean, then take the Final check. No account, no sign-up, and a grown-up can remove it at any time. Everything else in the game stays exactly as it was.

Landed on the wrong week? If a teacher's code puts you on a unit your class isn't on yet, your week's card now offers to move you back - no grown-up needed, as long as you haven't started practicing. And when a code is about to change your week, the screen says which unit you're leaving, not just where you're going.

Your streak counts days in a row, so a couple of days off ends it - which is rough if you only practice at school. There is now a days-practiced-this-month count beside it that never goes down during the month.

Also fixed: on a device that already had QuillQuest, this release's new recordings were marked as already downloaded and would never have been fetched, so new words would have been read by the robotic voice instead of the real one. And the progress bar at the top of a round now fills as you work, instead of moving only when you get one right.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-28

Division is here. A whole new subject with its own ten levels, following a river from The Spring all the way to The Sea. Get one wrong and it shows you the fact behind it - 7 times 8 is 56, so 56 divided by 7 is 8 - because that is how you work it out, not a new thing to memorise.

Times Tables has a Speed Run. Sixty seconds, as many facts as you can get, and it keeps your best. The same facts every time, so a score you set today is one you can actually beat next month.

British spellings count too. If you write analysed, offence, paediatrician or manoeuvre, that is right - the game used to mark you wrong for the spelling you were taught.

Hitting your daily goal reads as a milestone now, not a finish line, and you can set it as high as 60 answers.

Ranks re-tuned. Finishing a whole subject now unlocks a new theme, and the top rank can be reached by playing everything rather than by replaying it.

### 1.1.2 — 2026-08-27

Every word hint in the game was checked, and about a hundred were wrong. Not the levels alone - all 3,500 words. stand was explained as "a place where people sell things at a market", sound as "very healthy and not sick", and orchestral was describing what an orchestra is. down no longer means duck feathers. The very first word of the game had a read-aloud hint that taught the wrong spelling.

25 new words, in a pack built for them. The everyday ones children actually get wrong - because, their, friend, said, enough. They sit in a new Tricky Everyday pack in Play Anytime, so you can practise exactly the words that trip you up.

British and American spellings both count where the game knows both - kilometres and kilometers, programme and program. They sound identical, so being marked wrong for the spelling you were taught was never fair.

Names are spelled the way names are spelled. The answer screen used to show "broadway" and "macgyver" as the correct spelling.

Levels now open when you have earned them. The next level asks for 12 stars in the one below, rather than counting the stages you visited - so a second and third star finally buy something. Clearing a single stage got easier at the same time, and if you have cleared eight stages of a level it opens regardless of stars. Nobody who could reach a level before can be shut out of it now.

Stuck on a level? After three rounds without a star, the summary quietly offers you the level below - once, and only ever a level you have already unlocked. It is the first time the game has had a way back down at all.

A new save no longer starts at the hardest level your age unlocks. It starts one below, with everything else still open and one tap away - so the first round is one you can win.

Two of three is no longer a perfect score in Times Tables. On the short early stages one wrong answer still gave three stars.

Finishing a level takes you to your trophy. It lights at the end of the map you were on, and the button used to send you straight past it to the next level.

Practise one times table at a time. The 2s through the 12s, each its own card, so you can drill exactly the one you are stuck on.

New badges, levels and word packs now announce themselves. They used to unlock in silence, and you would find them later or not at all.

After a round you did not clear, the game tells you two things it never used to: the replay is the same words, and using a hint still counts as first try.

The daily reminder stopped mentioning your streak, and no longer arrives on a day you have already played.

The name box asks for a first name, and says so, along with the fact that it stays on the device.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-08-25

Say who you are. First run now asks your name and lets you pick your character and colour. Skippable, and changeable any time in Settings.

The summary names what to beat. After a round it lists the words you got wrong, worst first - the ones coming back on review.

Fairer hints. The example-sentence hint no longer costs your no-hint bonus when there was no sentence to play.

Changing a player's age now asks a grown-up.
