## What is Quran Words Voice Search?

Say any word of the Qur'an out loud — or type it in English letters — and find it, with what it means, how it is built, and the ayah it lives in. Then hear it read back in Arabic. Everything is on your iPhone: no internet, no ads, no tracking.

A humble request from the author: if this app helps you understand the Qur'an, please leave a rating. It is the work of one person, and ratings are what let other students find it.

FIND A WORD BY ITS SOUND
Press the microphone and say the word the way it is recited. The search does not look for exact letters: it reduces what you said to the sounds it is made of and ranks all 18,993 words of the Qur'an by how near they come. The article ٱل is optional, vowel marks never matter, and a near miss still finds it.

HEAR IT SPOKEN
Voice search answers in voice: it says what it heard, repeats the word in Arabic, and tells you the similar-sounding words are below. Open any word and it is pronounced. Tap any Arabic word anywhere — a particle, a rigid noun, a form in a root table — and hear it. Tap the ayah example and the whole passage is read.

The pronunciation follows the vowel marks exactly: yansuru, not yansara. It uses the Arabic voice on your iPhone; the Enhanced or Premium Arabic voice under Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content sounds most natural.

TYPE IT AS IT SOUNDS
No Arabic keyboard needed. Type hamd, layl, or dhul-qarnain and the word appears. For a word carrying the article, add a dash: al-hamdu, ar-rahman, ash-shams. A built-in guide shows how to write each Arabic letter in English, and letters that share a sound share a spelling — s finds both س and ص.

EVERY WORD, EXPLAINED
Each of the 18,993 distinct words carries:
• its meaning as the Qur'an actually uses it, from the word-by-word renderings
• all its dictionary senses, not just the first
• its grammar in plain words — "perfect verb, Form IV, 3rd person masculine plural"
• the particles and pronouns attached to it, each explained
• a Qur'anic example with the words around it and their meanings
• every place it occurs, with the surrounding words a tap away
• the other words built on the same root, one tap from its full tables

ALL 86 PARTICLES
Every حرف the Qur'an uses, grouped the way the grammarians group them — prepositions, conjunctions, particles of negation, condition, question, emphasis, answer and more — each with all the meanings it can carry, with the pronouns and question words beside them.

WORDS THAT SOUND ALIKE
1,216 sets of Qur'anic words a listener could take for one another: the same letters read with different vowels, and different letters that make nearly the same sound.

THE WHOLE QUR'AN IN ENGLISH — FREE
Read the whole Qur'an in English like a book, or have it read aloud: the translation of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan and Prof. Farida Khanam, with English surah names and a contents page. Free for everyone, with or without Pro.

THE FULL ROOT TABLES
A complete صرف reference: all 941 verb roots of the Qur'an, form by form (I to X), with one table per form — perfect, imperfect, imperative, verbal nouns, participles and the derived nouns, each marked as Qur'anic or dictionary, with all its senses. Every occurrence is shown inside its ayah.

And the 188 rigid nouns — the Qur'an's nouns that come from no verb at all — each with the part of the ayah its meaning came from.

HOW IT WAS BUILT
Grammar and roots follow the Quranic Arabic Corpus, renderings its translation data; dictionary senses come from Wiktionary, corrected against the classical lexicons and the Qur'an's own renderings. The About page lists every source.

WHAT THIS APP DOES NOT DO
It works offline; it goes online only if you tap Check for updates. It shows no advertisements. It collects nothing about you. The only permission it asks for is to hear the word you say. It is the work of one person who wanted to look up the words he heard recited. Ten word lookups are free; then one payment, Quran Words Pro, opens the app for good. No subscription.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 6.9.1 — 2026-10-22

Version 6.9.1
• The App Store page is now also in Arabic, Urdu, Indonesian, Malay and Turkish. The app itself stays in English.
• Small improvements.

### 6.9 — 2026-10-17

Version 6.9
• Word forms corrected in the verb roots. Plurals such as aṣḥāb (companions) and arḥām (wombs) had been listed as Form IX verbal nouns; they are now nouns under Form I. Nouns such as kitāb (book), libās (clothing) and ‘iẓām (bones) are no longer listed a second time under Form III.
• Form IX now holds only the colour verbs the Qur'an uses: ibyaḍḍa (to turn white) and iswadda (to turn black).
• The app and the printed book now match entry for entry.

### 6.8 — 2026-10-09

Version 6.8
• When the English Quran is read aloud, the page now follows the verse being read, so the highlighted words always stay on screen.
• About now shows the app's version and build, with a Check for updates button that asks the App Store whether a newer version is waiting.
• The sources have their own heading on the About page.
• The Pro page now says clearly what stays free for everyone (the whole Qur'an in English, finding any word, the particles) and what Pro unlocks.

### 6.6 — 2026-10-08

Version 6.6
• New: choose the voice that reads the English Quran. Tap Voice on the reading bar to hear each voice on your iPhone and pick the one you like. Samantha reads unless you choose another.
• The English Quran is now all in English: surahs carry their English names, such as The Opening and The Cow, and the reading voice announces them.
• Reading aloud is slower and calmer, with short pauses before and after each surah's title.
• Rating the app is now one tap away: the Rate button at the top of the Words page.

### 6.2 — 2026-10-02

Version 6.2
• Thousands of meanings corrected: every root, verb form and word was checked against how the Qur'an uses it — بِئْسَ now reads "how wretched!", تَحْوِيلًا "transferring", أَجَل "term".
• The dictionary meaning follows the Qur'anic one where it adds something.
• The باب of 265 roots, over 2,000 headwords that had been cut short, and 356 word classes are fixed; duplicate rows are gone.
• Word pages show the corrected dictionary sense.
