This app exceeded my expectations and more. If you think $9.99 is too much, consider you spent $300 on the r4. This enhances the R4 greatly. Much appreciation to the developers. ### 5/5 — Modern radar detectors are complex. *2024-08-25, version 1.08.9* This app demystifies what is going on in the radar detector and eases customization. I would like a more detailed manual, but I think that since I’ve only used it for about 6 days, the info will come organically. The creator of this app should take a page from Uniden and allow the option to minimize visual distraction when radar/laser updates are not happening. Uniden detectors come with a 'scanning screensaver' that can be turned off, atleast. ### 4/5 — Bluetooth connectivity *2024-05-02, version 1.07.3* The only reason this isn’t 5 star is Bluetooth constantly disconnects and reconnects, over and over. Update: thank you for your quick response Angela. All suggestions are in place as suggested. Distance from R4 to iPhone is less than a foot. Good Bluetooth signal strength. It also happens with both vehicles. Any other suggestions? Thank you ### 4/5 — Bluetooth connectivity *2024-04-29* The only reason this isn’t 5 star is Bluetooth constantly disconnects and reconnects, over and over. **Developer response:** Hi Sir5list, Thanks for the review and for reaching out. You shouldn’t have connection issues due to the app. Please make sure you check your iOS settings at settings->r4 companion and make sure “Background app refresh” is turned on. Also make sure you check the Bluetooth signal quality at the bottom of the main screen of the app to make sure the phone is receiving a strong signal otherwise move to the phone closer enough to the detector. -Mark ### 5/5 — Indispensable *2024-04-25, version 1.07.3* It is difficult to imagine that this app works so well with just its default settings that it made me believe my R4 wasn’t working properly. The truth is, I was getting a vast number of false alerts that this app helped to mute - while Keeping track in the log for later review. The only thing I haven’t figured out how to do it to use the map function in the app to go back and mark certain spots as false alerts. You can mark the type of alert, but there doesn’t seem to be away to mark as a false alert. Otherwise perfect. The in app settings config for the R4 is very helpful too. ### 5/5 — Great app - needs CarPlay to be ideal *2024-04-16* It is incredible how well this app helps the R4 stop false alerts - and the configuration options it can set on the r4 are very helpful. It has been an invaluable help in a busy metro area like mine. CarPlay would make the app safer to use and easier to view when driving though. With that, this would be the perfect app, I believe. You will continue to get value add with all of the free updates that come out on a regular basis. Once you have purchased the app you get free updates for life. For example, the next update 1.02 will have the ability to customize over 35 of the detectors internal settings via the app. 1.02 will also feature over 8 new features/improvements. Many of our customers find it very worth the initial price, given the price also includes a lifetime of free updates. Many customers let us know what feature(s) they would like to see by writing us at https://crackedpixel.com/contact-us . We then prioritize and implement the features requested in upcoming releases. The app does work with CarPlay (announcements, audio ducking etc.). It just does not have a CarPlay specific app because of the restrictions Apple puts on such apps. As soon as Apple allows it, rest assured this app will support it as well. Thanks! ### 5/5 — Very Good App - well worth the $ *2024-03-05, version 1.06.8* This App takes the R4 to a new level. Love the customization options. As someone who operated a radar unit for 30yrs and knows what radar units are being used I was able to narrow down the alarms to just police radar. A suggestion for a future update, I would love the ability to auto MUTE the startup process. I don't need the radar detector making all those annoying announcements and beeps every time I start my vehicle. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Use to like it *2026-06-06, version 1.20.2* R4 keeps disconnecting via Bluetooth. 40 mins or 1 min is the connection time. Other apps do not disconnect. Tried factory reset on radar, iphone, delete app and installing old firmware on r4. Still the same issues, resorting to using other apps until fix. If not well…. June 6: the connection between the phone and the radar was excellent, with the distance between them being less than two feet. However, it appears that wireless car play is interfering with the proper functioning of this app due to the same Bluetooth frequency or within the same parameters. Wired CarPlay is the only method that works without connectivity issues with current 1.39 firmware. For some reason 1.36 and 1.37 works without connectivity issues while using wireless CarPlay. ### 2/5 — Good app but has issues *2025-04-24* I like the look of the app and its functions. I have a big issue with the app changing settings on me automatically. Example is the speed limit warning. Just having the app open and not even going into settings on the app will change it for you every time. Very annoying when on the freeway and get a warning of going over 70mph. I cannot find this setting in the app which means I have to change it on the device every time I open the app. Not easy when driving and the R4 is in a spot not easy to get to. Also not all the settings are available on the app. You get the most of the basic settings. These are reasons why I give it a 2 star. **Developer response:** Hi Ruckinjoe, Sorry you couldn’t find the setting. Tap on the ‘audio settings’ button on the bottom of the main alert screen. On the audio settings page, you can set the ‘limit speed’ warning. Turn it on/off or set the speed for the warning. Please reconsider your review now that you know where the setting is. Thank you. -Mark ### 3/5 — Speed limit issue *2026-08-09, version 1.24.2* Not sure why speed limit is enabled even after I disable it, it keeps coming back on.Never had this issue until the update. ### 3/5 — Inconsistent Bluetooth *2025-11-02, version 1.15.10* If you are relying on the Bluetooth connection between the R4 and the App to get warnings, it may not reconnect after stopping and power to the detector cycling. You will be riding blind with the app unaware the detector is screaming slow down! ### 3/5 — Good, Not Yet Complete *2024-09-27, version 1.09.4* An improvement in controlling the R4 and worth its modest price. However, the IOS version has no options to change the R4’s primary display settings for speed, compass, scanning, time, etc. I was disappointed these major user interface choices are missing and would rate the app 5 stars if it had them. ### 3/5 — Why no Apple CarPlay? *2024-08-02, version 1.07.3* This seems to be a pretty good app except it be better if you could put it on the Apple CarPlay in your car. this way if you get a phone call, you can still see the alerts on your car display. ### 3/5 — Good app *2023-10-18* After using the radar alone and trying the this app with it I was amazed how it helps turn downs false signal on normal roads. I do have one feature or bug I still can’t figured out. The city over speed warning comes on even when I turn it pass 60. I want to go faster than 60 and it does it on the toll road too. I have to reset to factory settings to get rid of it. I hope they can tell me how I can turn it off or and fix the bug even when I’m on the highway with speed faster than 60. **Developer response:** Hi Duppyducky, There is a setting in the app you need to change, simply go into your audio settings in the app (found at the bottom of the main alert screen). In the audio settings change the "limit speed" to be whatever you want. It defaults to 60. You can also just disable it if you don't want any warnings of going over speed. Please reconsider your rating once you have tried this setting out. Thanks! ### 3/5 — I didn't find the app worth 10 dollars. *2023-10-08* While it is true that the app provides an additional level of access to the hidden powers of the R4, I haven't found the additional functionality particularly useful in my daily travels. I was able to configure the R4 using the under provided setup tool and for my purposes, it has worked well without the need for this app. Perhaps if the app worked with CarPlay, there would be a good reason to use it. If the app was five dollars, it would have seemed much more in line with what it seems to offer. A driver that knows what they got. High performance vehicles and where and how the bogies get detected. This app was coded for admins who understand what it takes to connect fast and customize what you want. This $9.99 app is a total game changer. I now have a quiet device with data logging to a map. My only feedback or maybe Christmas wishlist. Built in media player that lets the user choose the preferred player and allows controls on screen. When using said media player. Lock all volume to its mode or stream. I have a stereo that auto switches from Spotify to Carplay dock mode when Any alerts come on. I tried HFP but it’s too slow between my phone and Kenwood head unit even with adjusting delays. Please add mini player mode that can allow alerts without total music stoppages. Apple Music, Spotify, Youtube Music. My second wish is for Waze integration. Tell me where the bogies are planned based on the API and tell me to slow it up. In conclusion my Kenwood likes to dance between two modes when selecting this app to view bogies and speed. I know she will understand like she always does and will fix this. Reduces a lot of false alerts ### 5/5 — Much improved *2026-07-08, version 1.21.10* Blue tooth connection is more reliable now if you keep the app open and ignore the apple warning it is using your location which isn’t correct if Bluetooth isn’t connected on R4 display. If the Bluetooth is your only connect to your helmet on a bike I would recommend a secondary warning system like the LEDs that plug into your audio out. It is great to have audio choices for information on a bike so you don’t look at a phone. Having logged GPS speed and radar frequency is helpful if you do get an infringement as the police are not honest about the calibration and accuracy of their equipment. They ignore and hide the manufacturers specifications for their measuring equipment. ### 5/5 — Excellent App. Saves me lots of money 😜 *2026-07-02, version 1.20.2* Excellent app. I love the configurations to disable the frequency voice announcements that are totally irrelevant unless you’re a power user. I use it on a motorcycle and it works like a charm.
