Journeys take days to upload. Drivers big score doesn’t do much to help insurance premiums. No online help or replies *2022-03-14, version 1.0* From the start, once they were paid a fortune I could never get any kind of reply from them. It got so bad I started to believe the whole car insurance business was a scam - a false website. I tried every way to get a human being to answer me but they never would. On phone they would promise to get in touch with me, it was a lie. The app never showed any information. Been driving SIXTY YEARS but after my licence was changed to .French when I stayed over there, when I came back and changed licence back to British, RAC decided to charge me the rate for a person who had only been driving a car for ONE YEAR. My previous French insurance was about £300. With RAC, using same company, Aviva, but now with RAC the price was THREE TIMES MY LAST POLICY, and no accidents or claims. Also had to have a Black Box fitted even though I only drive ONE MILE A DAY. ### 1/5 — DONT GET IT PLEASE!!! GET OUT BEFORE THE 14 days cooling off period if you see this!! *2022-01-27, version 1.0* The app Crashes everyday and records when it wants and not the rest when you could have been driving amazingly It is 10x harder to get your points back once lost It will take points for you just parking somewhere!! Point deductions for no reason You get points took off for driving at work after 11pm! ( between 11pm and 5am points took off!!) If you are in traffic jam just waiting for a certain amount of time POINTS TAKEN OFF. Correcting a dangerous situation that another driver puts you in like hard breaking after being cut up POINTS TOOK OFF FOR BEING AWARE AND STAFF. GETTING REVS UP TO DO A ROUND ABOUT—— POINTS DEDUCTED. I have now contacted bbc watch dog, trading standard,the motoring ombudsman And also complained to the RAC obviously ignored!!! Please ### 1/5 — used to be great *2022-01-05, version 1.0* when i first got my black box in 2019 i didn’t have a bad word to say about this app. however, i don’t think i’ll be renewing my insurance with rac anymore, the app hasn’t worked for months, i chose this insurance because there was apparently no curfew but started to notice my night score dropping in the last few months, and can’t even view my score anymore because the app is broken, which apparently they’re aware of but nothing seems to get done to fix it. not great when you pay for a service you can’t use. ### 1/5 — The worst!! *2021-12-22, version 1.0* Got my black box fitted in November and I’ve never ever been able to track my score - the app is useless!! ### 1/5 — Useless *2021-12-19, version 1.0* My son had this installed for his black box in October! Since July 2023 it now doesn’t. We have contacted RAC on numerous occasions and nobody not even tech support have been able to resolve our log in issue. We are unable to see any of the black box information, again we used to be able to see all the information until RAC had a glitch in their system in June/July. We also used the web access for the app and we can get into the app but there is no information showing. Is there anyone who can resolve this please!! ### 1/5 — A Gilbert *2023-07-06, version 1.2.1* Absolutely awful app and company. Probably the cheapest insurance and I can tell why. Nothing works, the link is always down. I’d definitely pay a little bit more and use a different insurance company. At the beginning everything was fine & the app seemed to work. Suddenly (with no changes to my own driving at all) my driver score has dropped dramatically and i can’t get it back up no matter what i do. Tried to contact RAC numerous times - no answer. Wish i had of just paid the extra money for insurance without a box. Please do not take out this insurance! ### 1/5 — Don’t get their insurance *2023-04-30, version 1.2.1* Emergency stops will drop your black box score below 70. If you breathe too heavy on a single pedal rather than knocking a few points off it drops your score to nothing. Every other black box is relaxed this is just pathetic ### 1/5 — Useless app, doesn’t work *2023-01-12, version 1.2* Got my insurance a few weeks ago, had my black box installed yesterday and I can’t log into the app, jsut says my email and password is wrong, clcik reset password and nothing happens, I just wanted to see my driving score, woild not reccomend ### 1/5 — Worst tracker we’ve ever used. *2022-11-05, version 1.2* The app takes anything up to 24 hours to update a vehicle location which is pretty useless when you’re running a small fleet. I still have to ring our drivers to find out where they are. We were sold this system in the belief that it was better than Quartix which we used for years. At 1st I thought it could be due to the internet connection but tried in various locations even removed and reinstalled. Not what I was hoping for to enhance my driving skills. ### 1/5 — Can’t even log in *2022-08-17, version 1.0* Set up an account almost a year ago, and have been wanting to check my driving, but not even been able to get past the log in page. I type my password in correctly, it says it’s wrong, so i click forgot password, follow the email link to change it and it then crashes and says “something went wrong, please try again later”. Not even been able to get any further than that with almost a year of trying. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — This app works perfectly for me *2020-03-06, version 1.0* I’m very happy with this app it tells me everything I need to know I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews The app is clean, loads relatively quickly and gives me my scores in real time. What else do I need? Honestly, the only issue I have is that they could offer more advise on what night and urban driving refers to and how to improve those scores. Either way I was easily able to call customer services to get the information I needed. Nothing wrong with this app at all, not sure what all these cry babies are talking about ### 4/5 — It’s good!! *2020-09-03, version 1.0* I never write reveiws for apps but I thought I should in this case , iv seen so many bad reveiws about this app and this insuremce but I can’t understand why, the app is great it even tells you where you cars located and the journeys you’ve taken, it even highlights the point on your journey where you speeded or had bad acclration, yes your score goes down when you drive at night, but that does affect your overall score by very much, as long as your not speeding and don’t breaking or accelerating harsh then your score will remain above 90 no matter what time you drive, there custmoer helpline is so helpful and made it so easy to understand how to put my black box on and set up the app. Highly recommend rac , just thought I’d let you all know as there are so many bad reveiws about this app. ### 4/5 — What happens to the data? *2016-10-26* Great little app, but the cost to you is going to be the data you are giving them, how hard you accelerate, when you are speeding(put on the map for you, so a policeman could look at this and use it against you!) not to mention selling this to insurance companies.... think this is too much to pay and I will be removing the black box soon! ### 3/5 — Dated UI but it works *2020-09-12, version 1.0* I really want to give this 4/5 stars, in contrast to all the negative feedback and reviews that this app is already getting. A couple of points: 1. The UI and how the app feels, behaves and looks is very dated, but that being said, it works. After every drive, an hour or so after the app updates with the relevant journey taken and any updates to the driver score. 2. The only thing that I’m very frustrated at is the fact that RAC mention that there are no curfews attached to getting their black box. But if you drive any time after 7pm it’s classed as “Night driving” and your driver score takes a hit. Overall though, I don’t have any major major concerns, RAC’s black box in my opinion compared to the other horrendous reviews I’ve been reading of other companies is quite accurate (in terms of speed, acceleration and braking). I can’t for the life of me understand all the other negative reviews specific to this app on here, either you’ve got a faulty box or you’re driving around like an absolute spanner. ### 2/5 — Driving score lower on app than online *2023-09-18, version 1.2.5* Overall the app is pretty useful, however my score is constantly showing like 10 points lower on the app then on the online score, the app needs updating and fixing so that the score is more accurate. ### 2/5 — Nice looking app, poor quality *2022-12-24, version 1.2* Nice up but not sure what is going on with the score, as my driving/route wasn't changed, but the app going from 40 to 100 so yeah a bit weird. ### 2/5 — Doesn’t always work *2022-01-18, version 1.0* This was working ok for a week or two, then suddenly cleared all recorded journey details and didn’t work at all for about 2 months. It started working again but I find the map showing your recorded journeys too small to read properly and it now doesn’t record all journeys. IE it will record an outward journey but not the return or vice versa. The braking sensor in the blackbox is very sensitive IMO and if you don’t live close to a motorway you’ll lose many points on the urban driving score. If you drive after dark, you’ll lose points too. 8 months to go of driving like an old lady, needless to say, I won’t be renewing the policy. ### 2/5 — Unpredictable *2021-12-01, version 1.0* Been with them since may and said they will contact you to set up the telematics app, a week goes by nothing then another one. Eventually after a month or so I contacted them about the app and said oh yes we’ll have to send you a password to login in. After that yeah it was working good, but then it just switches. You’ve been driving great no harsh braking or accelerating but that your score will just change from 85+ to below 60 in a matter of a night, then it will take much longer to get back to your original score. Recently the App has just gave up all together. Says my score is 100, it doesn’t show my mileage I have used and now it doesn’t show where my location of the car is either. If they sorted the app out it would be great but at the moment it needs some work doing to it. ### 2/5 — Strict and unreliable *2020-07-21, version 1.0* Very strict and very unreliable hasnt been recording my journeys ### 2/5 — Review of the app not the insurance *2019-04-23* This is not a reflection of my view of the policy, which I think has actually been pretty good to me so far (I’m 6 months deep). However the app itself isn’t great. They layout and UI is actually very nice, it’s clean and intuitive, and will send you customised notifications if you set them up and can produce reports of your scores from specified timeframes. However this app is WAY out in delivering your actual driverscore. If you want to know your actual score, you’ve gotta use the computer client (when I asked the RAC insurance help desk I was told this) because the app for me is about 12 points below my actual score. The big problem on my app is my braking score which is totally broken and is reading at 32 even though the last time I got a breaking point was early last week and the time before that was about two weeks prior.
