## What is Racetrack?

From AutoPilot: offline flight training drills made by a CFII.

Racetrack teaches IFR holding patterns: the entries, the timing, the speeds and the wind correction. It is built for instrument students, CFII applicants and rated pilots staying current.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Learn: eight chapters, from what a hold is to wind correction and ATC communications, with diagrams in the anatomy, turn and entry chapters. They cover standard and non-standard turns, the three entries, timing, maximum holding speeds, the five T's and the holding clearance.

Entry Trainer: randomized holding clearances. Read your heading, pick direct, teardrop or parallel, and see your answer graded against the sector you are arriving from. A running score and your best streak track your accuracy, and an optional overlay shows the three sectors.

Pencil Method: a step-by-step walkthrough of the pencil-on-the-heading-indicator technique for choosing an entry.

Wind Correction: set the inbound course, turn direction, wind direction and wind speed to see the wind correction angle, the inbound heading, the triple-drift outbound heading and the adjusted outbound time, at a true airspeed of 120 knots.

Quiz: 148 questions in ten topics, from entry scenarios and timing to airspeed limits, published holds and lost communications, each explained when you answer.

WHO IT'S FOR
- Instrument students preparing for the knowledge test and the oral exam
- CFII applicants building the picture they will teach
- Rated pilots staying current between instrument proficiency checks

No account, no ads, no data collected. The lessons and drills work offline, in portrait or landscape, on iPhone and iPad.

Racetrack is a study aid. It is not for navigation, and it does not replace the AIM, 14 CFR or your instructor.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 2.1 — 2026-10-09

- Lessons, drills and quiz explanations now match AIM 5-3-8, including which side of the holding course each entry arrives from.
- Corrected quiz answers: 230 knots maximum from 6,001 to 14,000 feet, outbound timing from over or abeam the fix, holding bank angle, the six parts of a holding clearance, and the reports on reaching a holding fix.
- Wind correction in the quiz and Lesson 7 now crabs into the wind and triples the correction to the opposite side outbound, as AIM 5-3-8 describes. The Wind tab's arithmetic now matches the crab it shows.
- New lesson notes on the non-holding side and on headings near a sector line.
- VoiceOver reads every diagram and moves to your result when it appears.
- Every screen works at the largest accessibility text sizes.
- Higher-contrast labels on the diagrams, and larger tap targets.
- Animations and transitions follow Reduce Motion.
- The side panels scroll on iPad and in landscape, and titles no longer show through the iPad tab bar.
- The Privacy Policy and Support links now open.
- Your best Entry Trainer streak is saved.
- New: More from AutoPilot, and share Racetrack from your quiz results.

### 2 — 2026-05-03

• Tap any sector on the Entry Types diagram to see a Direct, Teardrop,
