## What is Rack Up?

Rack Up keeps score for tile-based word games — and unlike a notepad, it knows the rules.

Type the word, tap the tiles that landed on premium squares, and it does the arithmetic. Letter and word multipliers, blank tiles, the fifty-point bonus for using all seven, several words in a single turn, and the leftover racks at the end of the game.

One purchase, and that is the end of it. No ads, no subscription, no account, and nothing about your games ever leaves your device.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY DOES

Real scoring, not a calculator
Every letter carries its own value. Mark a tile as double or triple letter, set the word multiplier, and the total updates as you type. Two double-word squares in one play is handled, and so are the quadruple letter and word squares on the larger deluxe boards.

Blanks that are obvious
One button. A blank scores zero, and marking one clears any premium on that tile, because a blank on a triple letter is still worth nothing.

Several words in one turn
One tile placement often makes two or three words. Stack them with "Another Word" — each keeps its own multiplier. No skipping turns to enter them one at a time.

Fix any turn, not just the last one
Need to correct an earlier turn? Edit its words, tile bonuses or player from the score sheet. Later turns and the current draft stay in place. You can also correct the game you just finished.

Autosave with recovery
Your game and draft are saved automatically on this device. If saving fails, Rack Up lets you know and offers a retry. A separate checkpoint helps recover saved play if the current save cannot be read.

The tile counter
How many S's are left? Any blanks still out there? The Tiles tab tracks what has not appeared yet, and separates what is unseen from what is probably still in the bag.

On an iPad, both at once
The turn you are scoring stays on the left and the score sheet, tile counter or stats sit on the right. Checking a total no longer means leaving the word you are typing.

Offline word check, on from the start
Every word is checked against 168,000 words as you type — completely offline. It flags a word, it never blocks the play. You can always score it anyway, because the table decides, not the app. Turn it off in one tap if your table would rather not know.

Definitions, if you want them
Off by default, because looking a word up is the only thing here that uses the internet. Turn it on and scored words get looked up and kept, so the score sheet doubles as a record of what everyone actually played.

The screen stays awake
Your device sits on the table for an hour. It will not sleep between turns.

TWO TO SIX PLAYERS

End-of-game rack deductions, per-player stats, best word, bingo counts, and a full score sheet for the whole game.

WHAT YOU PAID FOR

No ads. No account. No tracking. No subscription. Out of the box the app never touches the network at all — scoring, the word list and your game are entirely on your device. The one feature that uses the internet, definitions, ships turned off, and turning it on sends nothing but the word itself. There is no sign-in, and nothing to allow or deny.

That is the whole point of charging once instead of showing you advertising.

ABOUT THE WORD LIST

The word check uses ENABLE, a public-domain word list of about 168,000 words, plus the modern two-letter words it predates, minus the slurs that tournament play dropped in 2020. It is not an official tournament dictionary and is not affiliated with any game publisher — it is a solid word list, not a referee. Rulings at your table are yours to make.

A handful of words are still perfectly scoreable but are never looked up. You can play them. Rack Up just will not read them out to the table.

Rack Up is an independent scorekeeper for tile-based word games. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any board game publisher.

### 5/5 — Turns out I’m bad at scorekeeping

*2026-08-18, version 1.3.1*

FINALLY! I love playing games like Scrabble but keeping track of the points is a pain (and usually wrong due to user error - oops). This app handles all the annoying math for you, including letter values, premium squares, word multipliers, blanks, and bonuses, so you can just play.
I also really like that it’s straightforward - no ads and no subscription, you literally just download and it’s ready to go!

### 5/5 — so easy to use while we play scrabble

*2026-08-18, version 1.3.1*

We always have struggled with keeping score while we play scrabble. This makes it so much easier!!!

### 5/5 — Literally all I needed

*2026-08-18, version 1.3.1*

Simple and perfect for what I needed, and definitely appreciate a one-time payment vs having to watch ads every turn. It’s scrabble y’all

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5.0 — 2026-09-13

Correct an earlier turn without undoing later moves. Edit words, tile bonuses or manual points, and assign the turn to the right player. You can also correct the game you just finished.

This update improves saved-game recovery, save-failure messages, history handling and scoring accuracy. Manual-points buttons stay reachable with the keyboard and larger text.

### 1.4.3 — 2026-09-07

Keep scoring while the keyboard is open, with improved word and rack entry. Short screens and larger text have more room for player names and stats.

Saved games recover more reliably, and the app explains when game history cannot be saved. The screen stays awake during a game and can sleep afterward.

### 1.4.2 — 2026-09-05

Plurals now play. ZEN worked last update and ZENS did not, which was half a fix. APPS, BLOGS, SELFIES, MEMES, PODCASTS and the rest of last update's words now count in every form.

The home button asks "Leave this game?" instead of "Start a new game?", which is the question it was actually asking.

### 1.4.1 — 2026-08-30

Saved players: add the people you play with once, then tap to seat them. Their games and stats stay with them from one night to the next.

A turn timer, off unless you want it. One to five minutes, counting down beside the player whose turn it is. Tap it to pause. It never ends a turn for you.

A rebuilt scoring screen: bigger tiles, every player's score visible at once, and you mark a premium square by tapping the tile that sits on it.
