Just tonight it crashed on me 4 times. When you’re reading a magazine it tends to be fine, just starting the app or browsing through the library is here I have issues. Let’s down the experience a bit for me. Trying to ‘go green’, help us with the tools to do so please! ### 2/5 — Nice content but painful app *2014-01-03* Why are there always issues downloading newly released editions? Get the notification email, grab iPad, open app, click download & 9/10 there will be a failed page or it doesn't download at all. Subscribed to a few PocketMags and they all have the same problems. Been so since release date of service. ### 3/5 — Adequate, but not great *2012-05-05* On the plus side, being able to get hold of this magazine electronically is great, especially when finding it at our local newsagent is nigh on impossible. However, the app repeatedly crashes on the startup screen. This happens on both the iPad and iPhone and is rather bizarrely acknowledged as a problem on the Pocketmags website FAQ. Their solution - delete the app and re-install it. This does indeed work, but I've had to do this three times since buying it yesterday. My question: If you know there's a bug there, why don't you fix it? The reading experience is good, but not fantastic. There's no click on a paragraph to zoom like viewing a web page in Safari on iOS. There are no clickable links for contents pages and advertisers. The page turning animation is fun for three pages and then you want to turn it off. Compared to the Zinio offerings, this reading experience is best described as 'clunky'. I will continue to buy the mag electronically because of its convenience, but I think I'll end up reading it on my laptop (Pocketmags has a browser based reading client). I wish it was available through Zinio, but at the very least, I wish they'd fix the startup issues! ### 3/5 — Retina *2012-04-05* Add retina supporting for iPhone 4 please. ### 4/5 — Still very buggy *2011-11-14* Downloaded the magazine flicking through the pages one by one got about halfway and was bumped back to the iPhone screen, happened three times. I also tried to register with the site and I was told that I need to be connected to the Internet, duh... last time I looked I was. ### 2/5 — Thought I would be better that it is *2011-11-09* The layout of this app isnt the best. O don't like the idea of the page turning because it is far to slow even with a wifi connection. It also keeps turning off when I get to a certain page. Buying the 12 month subscription for almost A$60 just gives me a blue screen upon downloading the mag. There is no link to email the problem so I'm left to write a review. Waited for the second month to see if its the same problem, and yes it is. Being a regular racer and subscriber of Racer I am very disappointed with what they have made. They need to look at iBooks and take advise from there, using it may seem simple but common tasks like zooming becomes annoying as double tapping does not zoom on a paragraph or image. Then when you have zoomed in and you want to read some text it is blurred as the quality is not very good. I would not recommend this as a replacement to the paper versions, like someone said in a previous review they would rather buy the app on here then travel 35 miles to WHSmiths to buy one- I would rather travel 35 miles to buy the paper version then this. It is a great read for me here in the United States. I can see all the different styles of cars that are available in Europe and maybe making their way to United States. The new version seems much more stable and has better features than the earlier editions. I really like to use this on the iPad compared to an iPhone as its more "normal magazine size" and you don't have to zoom in as much. ### 5/5 — Excellent app *2011-02-15* Wow so no matter where in the world I am I can now read the latest issue of Racer as soon as it is published. The latest update has made huge improvements to the app. I'm very happy with the purchase off the app and you get one free issue of your choosing. The sub rates are even cheaper than the paper version which helps save a few trees. And a new edition costs less than it's paper counterpart too. Very easy to navigate if your used to using the apple pinch functions.
