### 4/5 — Excellent utility

*2025-06-26*

The app is excellent, it could definitely use an update for portrait layout.

I'd love the ability to add a note to the log entries.

It would also be swell to have the ability to sort IDs received by type of signaling.

Thank you for writing and publishing this.

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2025-04-27*

For the past year or so this app hasn’t been working, didn’t pickup any radio ID etc. very frustrating

### 4/5 — Great app for many people

*2021-11-18*

This app is great for amateur radio operators, paid and volunteer firefighters and other public safety radio coordinators, you can play the sound near the phone and it will detect it, it could use a little explanation of all the features and it needs to detect sooner because on shorter tones it has a issue hearing it but besides that this app is a lifesaver for scanner listeners, volunteer firefighters programming all pagers, many different uses just for the tone finding, again I would like a manual on the other features and how to use them but besides that no complaints, 9/10 and such a good price, worth more then .99 cents

### 4/5 — Great App!

*2020-08-04*

I very much appreciate this app. It does as its intended. One feature I’d love to see is adding the ID’s as a “contact” if you will. For example “unit 3248 PTT ID” can be renamed in the app to be something like “Engine 36 Alpha Radio”. Other than that leisure feature I would love to see added, great application and would highly recommend to any scanner enthusiasts.

### 4/5 — Worked great...

*2018-12-11*

It worked great until recently. When I bought my new iPhone. I am not sure if it was going to iOS 12 or the XS Max. It does not seem to be getting anything from the microphone. After a reinstall it still doesn't work. It also did not ask for permission to use the microphone.

**Developer response:** This should be resolved in version 1.4, just released. If not, please let me know.

### 2/5 — Outdated

*2018-11-23*

No idea when this app was last updated - but even though it worked well on my old iPhone, it’s not configured for newer iPhones with no home button. You can’t swipe out of the app. If you have an iPhone X/XS model, do not download this app.

### 3/5 — Maybe broken now with IOS 12

*2018-11-10*

Not positive but it worked fine on my IPhone 7+ but is now broken on my XS Max. Not sure why though.

**Developer response:** This issue should be resolved in version 1.4. If not, please let me know.

### 4/5 — Can this be added to Windows?

*2018-01-17*

Any way we can make this Windows Friendly as my feed goes through my PC and would be much easier to log the codes through the audio in line.

### 4/5 — Great App

*2016-10-16*

This is a great app that works as advertised. You can sit it next to a scanner and it will decode PTT ID etc. It doesn't decode from your phone speaker if you are using an online scanner. It only uses the MIC and shuts off the other audio from online so there isn't a workaround. I would rate it 5 stars and call it amazing after the addition of that simple option (decode from streaming web audio).

### 3/5 — Needs some work

*2015-09-11*

Radio ID

The only problem with the Radio ID app is it seems to pull all the 2-Tone info from a standard Motorola Quick Call II tone table and doesn't actually display the tones that are being transmitted. For example, it decoded a Plectron tone set as 979.9 and 788.5 instead of the actual Plectron tones of 992.0 and 799.0. In addition it seems like some of the Motorola tone tables are left out too. I decoded a Motorola "Z" Group tone set as 422.1 and 788.5. The "Z" Group tones being transmitted were actually 426.6 and 794.3.

I guess if you didn't have anything else, this would get you close. Maybe some tweaking would be in order by the app developer.

**Developer response:** This is correct. For greater accuracy, it works the way a real pager does - with tuned filters - not as a frequency counter. In the future I may add alternative tone tables. Due to the overlaps between them, it isn't possible to simultaneously display Quick Call and Plectron.

### 5/5 — Excellent app. Works great

*2014-09-15*

Just open this app and set it close to a scanner and it will decode even the weak static MDC signal.

It would be nice if this app allowed MDC aliasing of ID's... Still 5 stars!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Does Nothing

*2025-12-06, version 1.4*

Trying to decode tones for some reason this app got mentioned in a forum waste of .99 cents does nothing at all 👎👎👎

### 1/5 — FleetSync does not decode

*2020-09-07, version 1.4*

This app does not decode FleetSync 1200 baud, FleetSync 2400 baud, FleetSync II 1200 baud, or FleetSync II 2400 baud.

### 1/5 — MDC1200

*2019-06-21, version 1.4*

I have two UHF 2-way radios: Kenwood TK-3180 and Motorola Xts3000-II with MDC posting PPT-ID working. I was hoping this app would show something like the PPT-ID or call ID, but nothing

### 1/5 — Unhappy

*2019-06-04, version 1.4*

Worst app I ever paid for

### 1/5 — Not what I wanted

*2019-05-14, version 1.4*

I have been searching for a programmable scanner app to enter a specific frequency in to monitor. This does nothing like that...not what I wanted. Description is useless

### 1/5 — Useless without updates

*2019-02-05, version 1.3*

Worked great. No longer compatible with newer iOS.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t Work

*2018-11-18, version 1.3*

App always freeze and unresponsive. Any help from Dev would appreciate it

### 1/5 — MONEY SCAM!!!

*2015-10-29, version 1.3*

Don't waste your money on this BS app!!! Doesn't do a single thing!!! ZERO stars!!!

### 1/5 — Doesn't do anything

*2014-10-16, version 1.3*

I would like my money back for an app that doesn't do anything. Even while next to a real radio

### 1/5 — Bad app

*2014-02-06, version 1.0*

App needs refining. Stops working and not very reliable

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great, now even better

*2026-06-15*

I have had this app installed for ages. For decoding MDC-1200, FleetSync, and QCII (and probably more, but that’s all used around here) it’s worked fantastic.

The app used to be a little clunky and dated. The new version looks awesome and is way easier to use. I am working on identifying fire toneouts and the ability to add aliases, and keep a count, is a huge addition. A great app made even better!

### 5/5 — Extremely accurate for two tone paging

*2023-06-14*

I was a little skeptical when I first heard about this app, but it’s extremely accurate. More so than Audacity and Uniden in my experience. Highly, highly recommend.

### 5/5 — Great tool!

*2020-05-15*

This app helped diagnose an issue with our dispatch. IT has been part time during this whole pandemic ordeal so it really saved us time to figure out what tones we were and weren’t getting. Thank you for this great tool!

### 5/5 — MDC works great

*2019-02-22*

Thanks for the continued support Matthew. I tested it on a local UHF analog system that still uses MDC1200, and the app works great!

### 5/5 — Hats off to the developer

*2018-10-01*

Works flawlessly. When I found the app I thought there was no way it was legit. I downloaded it and it perfectly decodes my local LE/FIRE/EMS MDC1200 and QCII. Well worth $0.99

Maybe in a future version, users could be able to save specific unit ID’s and assign an alphanumeric tag to the ID? Example: “WPD 1K-40 portable” so when it decides the ID in the future, it displays your description instead of the raw ID.

### 5/5 — Works Perfect!

*2017-05-20*

Works awesome, I've used it to decode an entire fleet of MDC-1200 radios to double check someone's work and to set up decoding without having to go into each radio's programming! Great field tool for anyone in radio service.

### 5/5 — Still works for iOS-10.2!!

*2017-05-01*

So the app hasn't been updated since 2014 (over 3 years and several iOS versions behind), however I'm very happy to say the app still functions perfectly for me! I am just mind-blown that it can tell thru a microphone the exact MDC-1200 unit radio ID or the QC-II tone decoding! Flawless for me anyways... 5+ stars!!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2015-03-03*

I tried this app and it works very well. I did just start to have an issue where it will not pick up anything because the app has turned off the microphone. I go to settings and turn off an on access and it works fine again. Might be my phone or could be a bug. It does work though. I even tested it with some online scanner sights and it was picking up tones and id's. Overall I would recommend this app.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2014-10-05*

App works surprisingly well and is very simple. Nice work!

### 5/5 — Excellent app!

*2014-09-29, version 1.3*

This app works awesome! This is amazing!! Awesome!!
