Although is NOT a SUBSTITUTE of it. I would recommend it to anyone who has read the book first. It contains helpful videos which complement the theory in the book. Sadly you won't be able to hear the sound of the video clips UNLESS you use HEADPHONES. It is well written and full of clear visuals. However, this Pocket Companion is the icing on the cake as it allows you to see the concepts in action. The videos function well, but may stick once in a while. I simply pause it, allow it to buffer and it plays smoothly. I love watching her in action within reach of my fingertips. Love it!!! For example, if you click on the mascara tutorial, you will end up viewing the tutorial on how to make your eyes look bigger. Also the streaming of the videos is choppy and unreliable.
