## What is Rainbow's End Manifest?

The Coast Guard’s equipment list, derived from your boat and cited to the regulation. Where each item is stowed, the briefing your guests hear, her log, and the schedule that keeps her fit, all in one book.

Enter your vessel once — length, propulsion, fuel, heads, tanks, systems — and every page derives from her. Change the boat and the book redraws.

GEAR — The federal safety-equipment checklist for your boat’s size and waters, with the 33 CFR and 46 CFR citation under every item: wearable and throwable personal flotation devices (PFDs), 5-B and 20-B extinguisher ratings, visual distress signals and their expiration rules, sound signals, navigation lights, placards, sanitation devices. A gasoline generator on a diesel boat brings the ventilation rules with it. Check each item aboard and record where it lives. Beneath the federal floor, a separate layer of what prudence adds. And a declarable inventory for clearing in abroad, shared with an official as plain text.

BRIEFING — A passenger walkthrough written from your own gear map: where things live on this boat, in the words you recorded; a MAYDAY card with your vessel’s name, call sign, and MMSI filled in; the crew-overboard drill — shout, point, throw, press; and the house rules: PFDs, tethers, and jacklines at night, offshore, and in heavy weather.

BEFORE YOU GO — A predeparture checklist drawn from her manifest, not a laminated generic: the blower on a gasoline inboard, the jacklines on a sailboat, the generator’s strainer, with the fuel and water estimates and the flare and extinguisher dates printed on the lines. The leg you log records what was checked, and the float plan is a tap away.

MAINTENANCE — Service intervals seeded and filtered to her systems: twins get port and starboard lines, each fuel separator its own. Hard legal expirations come preset — documentation renewal, EPIRB registration, flares, extinguishers. Engine items come due at whichever arrives first, the months or the hours on the meter. Every item states the job: replace, inspect, test, or clean. An Attention list shows what needs the skipper’s attention, and four ledgers — fuel, work, ownership, cruising — tally what she costs over any dates, set against last year, and export as CSV or PDF.

LOG — The daily cruising log: legs and lay days, the persons aboard, voyages that collect entries until you end them, distance run, hours under way and engine hours, weather, a journal, and the day’s photos. Fuel and water estimates refuse to guess: top off or enter a measured level and the arithmetic runs from there; the gauge outranks the arithmetic.

ON PASSAGE — Log the departure as you leave; every day at sea counts toward the voyage and the water until you tap Arrived. At each change of watch, log the time in local or UTC, the position from the GPS or typed as on a chart, course and speed, wind, sea, sky, sails, engine, and who kept it. From the second fix on, the log works out the speed and course made good, and the barometer — typed, or read from the phone’s own — shows its trend in the forecast’s words.

HER FLEET — More than one boat, each with her own complete book. Export the book to a file you control and import it on a new phone, or switch on iCloud sync and every device signed into your Apple ID keeps the same fleet, through your own iCloud.

Fully offline. No account, no subscription, no server of ours, no tracking; nothing you enter leaves your device unless you export it or switch on iCloud sync, which keeps it in your own iCloud. Your location is read only when you tap Fill from GPS on a watch — one position, into your log, never in the background.

Manifest checks against the federal minimums — state law can add to them — and it prepares you for, never replaces, the free Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check. An aid to seamanship, not a substitute for it.

May you find a rainbow’s end and treasure found wherever you sail or set your anchor.

Apps for sailors, by sailors.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.0.1 — 2026-09-26

A quick reference at the back of the book. Four pages, one for each moment aboard: alongside for a boarding, at the dock with guests, under way and after, and year's end. Each job is one line, saying what you want to do and where it lives. Tap the line and the book turns to that page. Type "how do I" in the Index to find it.

A guide on the website: every job, step by step, in the same order, with pictures. It prints. About links to it, and the support page's how-to answers point into it.

How this book works now names all four ledgers and the Log a cost button.

### 2.0.0 — 2026-09-25

Version 2.0.0 follows a full UI/UX audit of the app: its user interface and its user experience. Every screen and every everyday task was checked against our standards for use aboard, at the helm, at the fuel dock, with wet hands, and rebuilt where it fell short.

THE INTERFACE

Bigger targets. Every button, chip, and row you tap is at least 44 points tall, so you hit the one you mean. The back arrow, the Index, and the Next page at the foot of each page are full-size.

Easier to read. Nothing in the book is smaller than 12 points, and its inks are a shade darker, so dates and hints read at the foot of the page in sunlight.

Units in the field. LOA shows ft inside the box, the day's entry shows h and NM, and hours read h everywhere.

Pages that fit your screen. Each page holds as many rows as your screen can fit: more on a larger iPhone and on the iPad, fewer at a larger text size. Boat expenses now take two pages: the total and where it went, then the latest entries and the export.

Measure from the tank's line. On the Fuel Log, tap a tank's line to measure it.

One set of controls. The Editor now uses the same controls as Rainbow's End Anchoring: yes-or-no questions are switches, and figures sit under their labels. Arrows and checkmarks are iOS symbols throughout.

THE EXPERIENCE

Opens where you are. The book opens on the page you left, or on the day's entry while a passage is under way. The first page counts what is expired, overdue or due soon, and one tap takes you to where things are stowed.

Find anything. The Index search finds what's on the pages as well as their names: flares, HIN, fuel.

Every figure gives its age. Fuel and water say which reading they run from, engine hours say when they were logged, a voyage says how long it has been under way, and sync gives the day and the time. When something fails, it says so where it happened.

The check and the briefing go in the log. Predeparture ticks now last until the next departure instead of midnight. The leg you log records what was checked and what wasn't; a Briefing given button records the passenger briefing, and the voyage card counts both.

Your book carries over as it is: boats, ledgers, log and photos.

Support is on the About page and the welcome page: support@RainbowsEndMarine.com.

### 1.10.0 — 2026-09-17

What a voyage cost. Every fill, repair and expense can name its voyage. A fourth ledger, Cruising expenses, holds provisions, meals ashore, fees, transport ashore and moorings. The Voyage expenses page, after the voyage card in the Log, shows the total, the cost per day and per nautical mile, and each category.

What the boat costs. The four ledgers share one Expenses tab. Its first page totals fuel, work and ownership for this month, year to date, last year, all, or dates you choose; add cruising expenses with a tap. Compare any period with another, the same dates last year to start. Export the page as a CSV or a PDF.

Every entry, any dates. Each ledger and the log show every entry in the dates you choose. Tap an entry to correct or delete it. Deleting anything now asks first.

Measure a tank. Measure, beside each tank on the Fuel Log, takes the gauge by quarters or in gallons. The fuel estimate runs from that reading.

Photos on the day. Add up to 12 photos to a day in the log, from the camera or your library. With iCloud sync on, they reach your other device.

Sea service. A Sea service page in the Log counts days of service by year for the Coast Guard form: four hours or more under way, with the waters for each leg. Share the summary as text. You attest the time.

A track for your chart app. Share as GPX, on the voyage card, sends the positions from the voyage's watches as a track.

Maintenance says what the job is. Each item starts with its job: replace, inspect, test, clean, exercise, service or renew. Belts, the heat exchanger and its pencil zinc, and spark plugs have separate lines for inspection and replacement. Dates you recorded stay where they were.

Finding your way. Every page has a name. The Index lists every page and finds one by name. Entry forms open over the page, and a link to another page leaves a way back.

Update both devices together. A device on an older version that edits a boat saves her without the new ledger and photo lists.

### 1.7.0 — 2026-09-12

Watches on a passage. On an overnight run or longer, log each change of watch: the time in local or UTC (the other is shown), the position from the GPS or typed as on a chart, course and speed, wind, sea, barometer, sky, sails, engine, and who kept it. From the second fix on, the log works out the speed and course made good, and the barometer's trend reads in the forecast's words. Tap to read the phone's own barometer.

Passages: log the departure as you leave and tap Arrived when you get in. The same entry opens to be finished, and while she's under way, every day at sea counts toward the voyage and the water estimate.

Dates now follow your phone's calendar. Forms opened in the evening no longer default to tomorrow.

The gear that keeps people afloat now goes by its proper name. The gear list, the predeparture checklist, and the passenger briefing say "personal flotation device" (PFD), the Coast Guard’s own term, which covers every wearable and throwable device aboard.

The checklist’s provisions line now opens Rainbow’s End Provisioning on the App Store, the family’s meal and shopping planner. And the About and welcome pages close the way every Rainbow’s End app does: the seal, the maker’s line, and the wish.

### 1.6.6 — 2026-09-10

Corrected issues with various text sizes on iPhone not displaying properly. Enabled scrolling for pages that go below the visual horizon. A page whose content runs past the foot, because you keep iOS text larger or because your boat has more records than a page can hold, now scrolls, with a soft fade at the edge to indicate there is more below.

Also aboard: the predeparture checklist's float-plan line now opens Rainbow's End Float Plan on the App Store, and the seal of Rainbow's End Marine sits above the maker's line on the About and welcome pages.
