## Most critical reviews (8 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App is buggy please fix

*2019-11-30*

The links to species in the index and several other buttons do not work in current iOS version. This is unacceptable in an expensive app like this. This could and would be a 5 star app if the interface actually worked. This is very sloppy coding.

### 3/5 — Great info - app needs updating

*2019-10-09*

While it’s great to have all this info in the palm of your hand, it sorely needs an update. There are big bars top and bottom (on an iPhone 11) and most of the buttons don’t do anything. The only button I can actually use is ‘start identification’ which, luckily, is the main reason I bought the app.

I will also point out that in order to use this app to its full potential, you need a good grasp of botanical terms. There is supposed to be a glossary included, but I can’t access it (behind one of the non-functional buttons).

### 3/5 — Daunting even for professional botanists

*2017-01-11*

This is the latest offering from Gwen Harden Publishing. The user can therefore be certain that the information in it is complete, accurate, and up to date. However, no attempt has been made to simplify the myriad technical terms.
Also, for users used to other keys using the Lucid platform, it is disconcerting to say the least to have to go through the unnecessary step of ticking e.g. growth form before one can access the many other searchable characters. It is then not clear where to go from there. The Back key negates the choice already made.
The Section headed Identifying a Plant does not, as I would have expected, go step by step through How to Use the key, but rather has two headings - Features Used; and Identifying Rainforest Plants. How to Use the key is hidden under General Information.

### 4/5 — Thanks for the update

*2019-12-24*

Thanks for the recent update, the internal links are now working on my iphone and ipad. Seems a pretty useful research tool

### 4/5 — Search index by plant photos

*2019-06-24*

I would like to use the index in the ap to learn new plants as well as key out and think if you could update ap to also search and learn new plants using photos not just common and scientific names would be amazing .

### 5/5 — Excellent resource

*2024-04-30*

Very glad to have bought this, the elimination key is very intuitive and the app does not seem to suffer from the same issues brought up in earlier reviews. The $50 is worth it for the sheer amount of information you gain access to.

### 5/5 — A bargain for so much information

*2022-12-04*

An invaluable tool to have while in the field, several hundred photos and hundreds of descriptions available at the tap of a button. Worth every cent!

### 5/5 — Not the easiest to use

*2018-06-11*

I've used plenty of plant id keys and this is not the most intuitive. However once you've used it for a while it becomes easier and easier. And it's the only one I'd trust. Excellent information on species and plenty of photos. I use it in concert with the books. If it's hard to key with the app, it's often much easier with the books and vice versa. However the books don't have all the species info or photos that the app does and it's far more convenient carrying the app around on the phone and I can use it anytime. Best to read all the introductory info thoroughly before using the key, examine the plants really really carefully as some of the plant structures can easily fool you and then start out keying species you already know. Using known species allows u to check how good your observations are by comparing with species descriptions and then concentrate on how to use the key. You need a good 10x lens and to set aside plenty of time to get good at this.
