### 2/5 — More “When to Water” Options !

*2026-07-15, version 4.6.126*

When starting a program, there is a feature in the app for the day on which to start the program. It does not work. If you want to activate a program, you have to wait until the day before you want to start then manually activate it.

### 4/5 — Password now required!?

*2025-09-07, version 4.6.126*

Why is the iPad version now requiring a password to use it? This is new and irritating. I don’t know what my password is and there is no option to change it! I’m locked out of the iPad version now. Luckily my iPhone version still gives me access.

### 2/5 — Works pretty well until we went with the subscription model

*2025-06-03, version 4.6.126*

Eventually, it started dropping the connection all the time
The system became unreliable for us.
Even though we contacted customer support, they still keep trying to charge us an annual fee despite canceling. I don’t even have the app on my phone anymore and they still keep trying to charge us.

We ended up buying a different irrigation controller that works really well. That’s too bad, we enjoyed this when it worked years ago.

### 1/5 — This has become the worst paid service I have

*2025-06-02, version 4.6.126*

Not only do I have to pay to access my sprinklers, but now I have to manually run programs too. Which makes being out of town even more stressful. I’ve tried activating a set project on local and remote connections multiple times and within a day (before it waters) the program is deactivated. I don’t have any live weather options turned on and it has worked fine in the past. This is a nightmare.

### 1/5 — Bait and switch

*2025-05-13, version 4.6.126*

Everything worked great. Then they changed to a subscription model and I don’t have access to basic functions any longer. I’ll never buy this brand again.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2025-05-12, version 4.6.126*

I couldn’t get the device to connect to any weather services. I also couldn’t control the device from my phone, even at home. I ended up restarting the device and now I can’t get the app to connect to the device. The app is absolute garbage.

### 1/5 — Not bad

*2025-05-02*

Englisch language is not the Problem, but remot control doesn’t work!!!!!!!!!
We pay a lot of money and you create a very terrible app. It is also very slowly. You don’t read what other customers write about your app and change nothing!!! You are lazy! One Star is still to much!!! You should be ashamed!!!
No innovation!

### 2/5 — Used to work great

*2025-04-21, version 4.6.126*

App used to work and it was free. Now they have a subscription model, which I am very unhappy about and have been switching timers over to Rachio

Remote system is getting slow, ability to use 2 phone on multiple properties has disappeared

### 1/5 — Very Unreliable

*2024-09-20, version 4.6.126*

This product is ok when it works but fails to work when I need it most. Enough disappointments and dead plant. Into the trash can with this brick.

### 1/5 — Others seem to be right

*2024-09-01, version 4.6.126*

The WiFi app control function seems to be disabled unless you have a subscription. Didn’t use to be this way. I guess all the other reviews are right. Will be buying a new controller.

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2024-08-06, version 4.6.126*

The interface on the Rain Machine is wonderful. Easy to use and intuitive. The app has constant issues and terrible customer support. When the app works it very good. But there is a constant problem trying to connect with the app. Only solution is delete app and start over. This happens about every 1 to 2 months.

### 2/5 — Still very broken

*2024-07-17, version 4.6.126*

Update 7/2024: still flaky and buggy.

Rain Machine, what did you do. Ever since your ill-advised paywall update, the app has been broken in a variety of ways. Still is. Half the times my programs don't show up. Today in the middle of a heat wave and no rain for days, it told me "water surplus" and didnt water. Many times, both local and direct access time out. And on and on and on. Its a real disappointment.

### 1/5 — Inconsistent app

*2024-07-13, version 4.6.126*

Extremely dissatisfied with the inconsistency of how the app works.

### 1/5 — Stopped working.

*2024-07-11, version 4.6.126*

Can’t log in. No tech support. No way to reset login. A total waste.

### 1/5 — Loses connectivity frequently

*2024-07-06, version 4.6.126*

Despite paying $30 a year for premium connectivity to my RainMachine controller, when I use the app it frequently disconnects. If I am out in the yard testing zones, I can get one or two zones to work and then I lose connectivity and have to fully quit the app, few times to restore connectivity just to turn off a zone. Incredibly frustrating given that they charge an additional $30 a year for this service.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work like it used to

*2024-06-22, version 4.6.126*

When we first got it, it was great - 10 years ago or so. Now it loses connectivity, the interface gets stuck and just spins in our plants die!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bait and Switch

*2026-07-14, version 4.6.126*

RainMachine was a wonderful product when I purchased it some 10+ years ago. After many years of use, the company decided to move to a subscription based service. While I still have the ability to control the app when I’m on my home network, I have to pay a fee to control it remotely. It’s like buying a car with a remote start feature that after years of usage, the manufacturer suddenly disables the feature unless you want to pay for it. Well, that’s not the deal I originally agreed upon. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It’s too bad because it WAS a good product but now is barely meh. Look elsewhere for an irrigation control system.

### 1/5 — These guys went under

*2026-06-19, version 4.6.126*

Get a B-Hyve or Radicchio instead.

### 1/5 — This app is worthless

*2026-06-01, version 4.6.126*

We’ve had a Rain Machine controller for quite a while. They charge a yearly premium to access the controller remotely. It never works. Most of the time the app just sits and spins. I’ve tried Direct Access, Local Network Access and Remote Access. It is completely unreliable. If you need to control your sprinkler system from a distance, stay away from this app and its web brother. Horrible. Not worth a penny.

### 1/5 — Pretty much useless

*2026-05-09, version 4.6.126*

Can’t even connect direct after recent updates….

### 1/5 — Not supported

*2026-04-19, version 4.6.126*

Used to work - stopped and no support - this company has put to effort to support app and recommend avoiding

### 1/5 — Remote no longer working on the app. Subscription no longer operational.

*2026-01-26, version 4.6.126*

The company, Green, electronics, appears not to be operating their app nor support. I paid for the years worth of premium support, but cannot get a hold of them to help resolve some issues.

### 1/5 — Was great, terrible now

*2025-12-06, version 4.6.126*

I bought this system specifically because it was the one that I did not have to pay a subscription for. Now they’re so hung up on selling a subscription. I can’t actually access the machines functions. It’s incredibly frustrating. Having paid for a piece of hardware to have a company bracket it should be illegal honestly.

### 1/5 — Poor quality and suspicious tactics

*2025-09-16, version 4.6.126*

The app on iOS does not work. I see many people complaining of the same issue that the app just spins and spins when trying to connect directly but all customer support can do is repeat the same response about being on the same network between the device and phone, and that it works for the companies employees when they used it at home, etc. I’ve tried it all. Don’t waste your time on this product or app unless you enjoy being forced down to the cloud based solution and pay to use your own sprinklers. Company has been unresponsive to email requests for support.

### 1/5 — Local control broke

*2025-08-11, version 4.6.126*

Sometime in the last two months local device control broke for me. Whenever I click on the local device in the app, it crashes. Really hope it gets fixed soon. Moving to a different system if it remains all summer.

### 1/5 — Better options

*2025-06-21, version 4.6.126*

We were early RainMachine adopters and could use it remotely without paying for it. It was at one time a great app. Now the app loses connection all the time and crashes on me frequently. Not worth it. Too many good options out there these days that are far more cost effective. RIP

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great product and very reliable

*2026-01-23, version 4.6.126*

I don’t get all the negative reviews. I have three of them for years now and they work well and it’s easy to understand how to operate.

### 5/5 — The best irrigation controller

*2025-11-22, version 4.6.126*

I have my rainmachine now for close to a decade. It lives in an enclosure in my garage, but knows exactly what is going on with the weather thanks to it getting the data from weatherunderground where my personal weather station reports. Water savings have paid many time over for the hardware and the subscription. And my neighbors always admire that my yard is so green, even in the hottest summer heat. I had 2 different irrigation conrtolerz from the large vendors before, but the rainmachine is easier to use and overall better in every respect. Can’t live without it!

### 5/5 — Finally it works again!

*2025-08-21, version 4.6.126*

I originally bought my rain machine in 2017 and loved it. At some point a couple years ago I lost access to controlling the machine through my local network. I never had a subscription and I don’t need one as I only want to control it through my local network. When I lost access to controlling it over my network, I totally lost any respect for this company as it seemed the only way to control it was to pay for a subscription and I wasn’t going to allow myself to be forced into a subscription that I had never needed before . The product was advertised to work over a local network without a subscription and that’s what I expected. Well, great news! The company has finally fixed the iOS program to do exactly what it was always supposed to do… Work over my Network. And for that, I again respect them and thank them. I’m not sure at what point they fixed this as I had given up on it for over a year and was about to replace it when I decided to try it one more and it worked.
So, I’m changing my previous one star review to a Five star review once again.

### 5/5 — Great System

*2025-07-04, version 4.6.126*

Has always worked flawlessly. Was a little upset when the went to pay for internet access but for &30 a year not bad. Have had for 6 plus years without fail!

### 5/5 — I use to trust this company

*2022-08-01*

Updated Review 8-1-22
We’ll, what do you know, They have returned local access to my iPhone. I can once again control this app without going into my basement. Imagine my surprise when I came home to check on my system after my Sprinkler Company had made some adjustments and I just happened to open the app and there it was, my local access. I have updated my review to a five star review. Evidently they are listening to their customers. Thanks guys!

Original review below:
I’ve had this app installed on my iPhone since I purchased this rain machine approximately 7-8 years ago. I’ve never really cared about the remote access but to be able to control this app while I am at home with my phone, was the reason I bought the product. Now they have removed my access to even operate this from my phone. This is such a breach of trust, and as many have already said this seems to be very illegal. How could you change a product so drastically as to cut off access from the unit while I’m in my home? I now have to actually be standing in front of the unit and manually turn my system on and off. Phone access does not exist any longer. Your company needs to be a shamed.

### 5/5 — AMAZING!

*2022-07-11, version 4.6.124*

I thought for sure this app would not work how i want it to and i would have to manually change times from the unit itself, but this app is awesome! I have 9 zones and control them all from my phone and and can change anything instantly. I run two separate programs set with the exact time i want! Really amazing app and every year i pop it back on and everything's right there...PERFECT!

### 5/5 — Excellent Unit

*2022-07-08, version 4.6.123*

I’ve had two Rain Machines and they keep getting better. Very easy to set up and easy to operate. I even included a valve to remotely add water to my Koi pond. Since the unit is in the garage I did add a Wi-Fi booster for a stronger signal. You may consider that unless you have a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system. The weather download and algorithms have saved me about half on my water bill and my grass and shrubs are looking better than ever. I’ve had other brands but they don’t compare. Rain Machine is the best in my book.

### 5/5 — Great work

*2020-07-18, version 4.6.108*

Great app

Keep up the great work and updates!

### 5/5 — Has a demo RainMachine!

*2020-06-12, version 4.6.107*

I often download the Apps for ‘smart’ devices before I spend a lot of money on the hardware. You would be surprised what you can learn that might keep you from buying the hardware.

How did this one do? First off, no account to create, check! And, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this App looks great on an iPad, check! But best of all, it includes a fully functional ‘Demo RainMachine’, that allows you fully explore the full UI. Wow! I have never seen that before, check!

’Nice job’ developer. I’ll be ordering the RainMachine Pro.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2018-07-14*

I have pretty much automated everything in my home and this has to be my favorite and most used. The device is easy to install and the app is very easy even for my kids to understand and use. No more spending a half an hour in the basement trying to change my schedule because it’s getting hotter and no more stupid wireless rain sensor messing up my watering schedule. I connected zone to my garden drip system this year and my garden has never looked better. It’s really cool that I can stand in my garden and if it needs more water I can just press a button on my phone. Just yesterday my landscapers wanted to put fertilizer on the lawn but needed me to water it first and I was able to do that from work. The best part is being able to stop watering when I want to take a shower and the water pressure is low because the sprinklers are on. The only problem is that the snooze button does not work for programs that are actively on....if they add that function I would give it 5 stars and paid more money!
So pause button and skip zone button need to be in your next update...Thanks
