## What is Rajhans Prakashan?

‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’ची वाटचाल सुरू झाल्याला आज सहा दशकांकाहून अधिक काळ लोटला आहे. शिवशाहीर बाबासाहेब पुरंदरे यांनी १९५२ मध्ये ‘राजहंस’ ची स्थापना केली. पुढे श्री. ग. माजगावकर त्यांना येऊन मिळाले आणि दोघांच्या प्रयत्नातून ही प्रकाशनसंस्था वाढत गेली. प्रकाशनाच्या प्रारंभीच्या काळातच शिवशाहीर बाबासाहेब पुरंदरे यांचे ‘राजा शिवछत्रपती’ हे शिवचरित्र ‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’तर्फे प्रसिद्ध झाले.

‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’चे संवर्धक श्री.ग.माजगावकर यांची सजग सामाजिक जाणीव, वैचारिक मोकळेपणा, निरनिराळ्या राजकीय आणि सामाजिक चळवळींबद्दलची आस्था या साऱ्यांचा ठसा ‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’च्या पुस्तकांच्या विषयनिवडीपासून जाणवत होता. प्रेरणादायी चरित्रे आणि आत्मचरित्रांचे समृद्ध दालन, राजकीय वा ऐतिहासिक विषयांवरील वा समाजकारणावरील प्रभावी पुस्तके ही साहजिकच ‘राजहंस’ ची ठळक वैशिष्ठ्ये ठरली.

पुढे कामाच्या विभागणीत १९८३ पासून ही धुरा दिलीप माजगावकर यांच्याकडे आली. ‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’चे सामाजिक बांधिलकीचे धोरण, वाचकाला सकस वैचारिक आशयसंपन्न साहित्य देण्याची धडपड या गोष्टी एका बाजूला जपत असतानाच भिन्न थरांतले रसिक, वाचक आणि ‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’चे नवे-जुने लेखक यांच्याबरोबरच्या संवादातून आजच्या सुजाण वाचकाची आवडनिवड जागरूकतेने जाणण्याचाही दिलीप माजगावकरांचा प्रयत्न होता. वर्तमानाच्या समस्या, क्षितिजावर डोकावत असलेली विज्ञान-तंत्रज्ञानाच्या प्रगतीची किरणे, नव्या पिढीच्या नव्या गरजा, त्यांच्यापुढे उभ्या ठाकणाऱ्या नव्या प्रश्नांची नवी उत्तरे – नव्या शक्यता या सा-यांचा मागोवा घेणारी पुस्तके ‘राजहंस’च्या यादीत समाविष्ट होऊ लागली. ‘राजहंस’च्या आधीच्या दालनांना विज्ञान, पर्यावरण, अंधश्रध्दा निर्मूलन अशा अन्य विभागांची जोड मिळाली. ललित वाड्.मयातील नव्या नावांना अन् नव्या प्रवाहांना ‘राजहंस’ने प्रथितयश साहित्यिकांच्या हातात हात मिळवून पुढे आणले.

नवे विषय आणि नवे लेखक यांबाबत ‘राजहंस प्रकाशन’ नेहमीच स्वागतशील राहिले आहे. ‘राजहंस प्रकाशना’ने वाचकांपुढे आणलेल्या अनेक लेखकांनी त्या त्या क्षेत्रांतील आपल्या कामाने आणि त्यासंबंधीच्या पुस्तकलेखनाने अत्यंत आगळी वेगळी कामगिरी उभी केली.
