Rake: Relight

Move the light in a photo after you took it. Drag a lamp across the picture and watch the light wrap around a face and cast real shadows. Portrait photos carry the depth your iPhone measured when it took them. Rake reads that depth, works out the shape of the scene, and lights it the way a lamp in the room would have. Any other photo works too: Rake estimates its depth on your device. START FROM A LOOK Four classic portrait setups, placed around your subject in one tap: • Rembrandt — a key high and to one side, the classic portrait light. • Butterfly — a key straight above the face. • Split — a key from the side that lights half the face. • Softbox — large lights with gentle shadows. A look is a starting point. Change any light and it is yours. THREE LIGHTS, LIKE A STUDIO • Key — the main light, and the one that makes the shadows. • Fill — a softer light that lifts the shadows the key made. • Rim — a light behind your subject that draws a bright edge along hair and shoulders. MOVE THEM WITH YOUR FINGER Drag a light across the photo. Pinch to pull it toward you or push it back behind your subject. Tap a light to choose it. SHAPE EVERY LIGHT • Power, in stops: +1 doubles the light, −1 halves it. • Depth: how far in front of your subject, or behind it, the light sits. • Size: small lights give crisp shadows, large ones soft edges. • Warmth: from cool daylight to warm lamplight. • Shadows on or off, light by light. • Original: how much of the photo's own light to keep. SEE THE DIFFERENCE, THEN SHARE IT Hold Compare to see the photo as it was shot. Share saves or sends the relit photo at full resolution. MADE TO BE LEARNED A short guide opens the first time you relight a photo and explains every light and control, and it is one tap away after that. The controls fold away when you want to see the whole picture, and the app works with your phone held upright or on its side. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything happens on your device. Photos come in through the system picker, without access to the rest of your library, and nothing is uploaded — there is no server to upload to. No account, no credits, no subscription, no ads. TIPS • Portrait-mode photos relight most faithfully. In Photos, they are the ones with the ƒ depth control under Edit. • Sending photos between devices with AirDrop? Choose Options and set Format to Current, so the depth travels with the photo.
