I can’t contact you all because of that, I am going to give the rating at this moment 3 stars even though it deserves 5 but I need to use it and I can’t even open the app. Should I delete and re-download again? **Developer response:** Hi Mrs GattisATX, Thanks for reaching out and the kind comments regarding the app. Could you please email support@academyapps.net and I will be happy to assist with this. ### 3/5 — It’s good but.... *2019-08-11* This app is good what I need it for except I had over 30 names in a group and when I went to open the app it wouldn’t open, just kept crashing. I uninstalled then reinstalled the app, I lost the list of names, didn’t back up. Hopefully this will be fixed after paying money for this. **Developer response:** Hi Mgjsmith, Thanks for the review and the useful feedback. I will take your comments onboard and look into providing local file storage/backup on the device in a future release. We do have the facility to sync to a free Dropbox account in the current release of the app. By syncing groups/group memebrs to Dropbox this would avoid losing any existing group/group member data. If you have any suggestions as to how the app can be improved further I would love to hear them. You can do this by selecting "Settings/Share Fedback" from inside the app. ### 3/5 — Not working *2019-07-27* There must be a glitch or an update needed. The app is really intended for use in the Classroom...but it is great to hear of any new and novel ways it can be used! ### 3/5 — Not what I thought I was getting *2018-02-02* I liked the idea of the app and tried the starter version. I purchased the pro based on what it said you could do. I am very disappointed and wish I hadn’t bought it! The main pro feature I needed was entering a name more than once and it will not let me. The button in FAQs it says you need to use isn’t even there! I emailed support so we will see what happens. **Developer response:** Hi Alynn479, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Actually you can display a name more than one time in the Pro version. There may be some confusion here. You do not need to enter the name more than one time. You simply state the number of times you want names to be able to appear (before all names are displayed). We added this functionality based on feedback from users. They said that students would "relax" once their name had been displayed once (knowing it would not be displayed again!), so we enabled a feature where the teacher can specify the maximum number of times any single name can be displayed before all of the names in the group have been displayed at least once. The option can be found on the "Settings/Groups" screen at the top. You will see a setting for "Display names up to x times". The "x" can be between 1 and 10 times, as well as an unlimited number of times. I think that answers your question, but if not please email support@academyapps.net and I will be happy to assist further. Well designed, interactive, and creates good suspense as the name appears. Takes the pain out of deciding who's up next, and no arguments! I would certainly recommend it. ### 2/5 — Many bugs *2016-08-15* This app promises to let you form an unlimited number of groups with an unlimited number of students in each group. While I AM able to form groups, on the smaller groups, I can sometimes get it to select names but sound and music does not work. Other groups, the app just shuts down and kicks back out to the main screen. Great idea, poor execution as is. **Developer response:** Hi Pianorow thanks for your feedback. I am pleased to say the bugs you highlighted have now been resolved. Please update to the latest version. We have also included a button in the app so you can report any future bugs or suggestions for improvements/new features directly to us without exiting the app. We do listen to our users, we want the app to be the best it can be. I hope to hear from you again soon. ### 2/5 — Cannot Share *2016-02-14* Although it states you can share with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, hitting those options within the app only takes you to the developers business page. It would be good to be able to record your selection and send that recording as a video or GIF to Facebook or Twitter or Instagram. I would like to have students able to be repeated without resetting the class. Once a student has been selected then they know they are good until reset. I love the idea of creating my own background. Would like to import my own music and adjust sound effects. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Regret upgrading *2022-09-10, version 2.8* Since upgrading it has not been user friendly and often have issues with the app despite the upgrades and so “Bug”Fixing. I think you may be confusing the Free version of the app "Random Name Selector Starter" which does have a maximum limit of 20 members per group. The idea of this is that users can try the "starter" version (for Free) before committing to purchasing the "Pro" version (which has no limit). I will look out for your email. ### 1/5 — NEEDS IMPROVING *2019-02-11* I would like to see a more fun way of the names being selected, for instance just appearing on screen just doesn’t cut it. Make them all sweep in and jump about then pick the unlucky learner. Add a random headline like, “the lucky winner is”:- or “John you have been picked because your cool” or “Peter your best in class as you’ve been picked” How about a water fall with the names toppling over until only one is left. Why not put parachutes on their names and have only the winners name open his or her parachute and land safely or the other way round the parachutes open but the unlucky one lands in a manure heap and has to answer the question. The main focus of the app is not so much to display a "Winner". It is more to ensure all members of the class are given the opportunity to participate, and no one is left out. It is often the case that the more exuberant students get picked to answer a question or complete a task. Using this app the teacher can ensure even the most reserved student gets a chance to shine. I feel it may be too distracting if there were a big "Fanfare" each time a students name were displayed, it could also become annoying after, for example, 26 names were drawn. I hope that helps put the purpose of the app into context and helps to explain why the app works the way it does. I do think your "and the Winner is" suggestion is an excellent idea...perhaps for a future app with a slightly different focus. ### 1/5 — Poor performance, documentation and support *2018-09-11* This app works erratically, is prone to crashing and has nearly no documentation. I fully accept we need to update the Help section for this app. To be honest, we have been concentrating on adding functionality (mainly from user requests...including users being able to add hundreds of groups/group members via a csv or text file!). Now we have added this functionality, which we are really excited about!... we need to improve the Help section. I will prioritise this and get much more extensive Help material published in the next few days. The help section is a web page, this is so we can update it on a regular basis, and respond quickly to this type of request. So the performance of this may relate to the quality of your internet connection?...I will also check things at our end. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. In addition... *2021-03-12* Further to my previous review, using the pro version has also given me the ability to choose a theme or select my own and also password the settings section which is very handy. The Groups also have a counter for the number of active names in the group and the individual names can be turned on or turned off. This saves much time. Excellent app developer. I was having trouble importing from Dropbox so I emailed for help and they responded within hours. And when I still had trouble, I sent them my list and they formatted it for me.
