### 4/5 — Great app, but where's the Apple Watch app?

*2016-07-31, version 1.7*

Love using the app, with the iPod touch I have, but iGrill has passed it with Apple Watch Support

### 3/5 — only get alerts when in the foreground? How is that useful?

*2015-10-09, version 1.6*

"Alerts that you set on your remote device (not the one that Range is plugged into) will be triggered while the app is in the foreground only, to conserve bandwidth and battery life.”

So you are saying if I have a Range plugged in to a remote device, and I want to get alerts on the iPhone in my pocket.. I have to have the Range app in the foreground on the iPhone in my pocket or I will not receive an alert when whatever I am cooking is done?

Is that right? If so.. how is that even remotely useful?

### 4/5 — Très bel utilitaire. Real good app.

*2015-06-15, version 1.5.3*

Would be great to get more precision, let say 1/100 or 1/10 degrees would be appreciated and possibly with a calibration capabilities..Could use it as a lab thermometer.

### 4/5 — Great thermometer

*2015-05-21, version 1.5.2*

This is a wonderful thermometer. Easy to read and no guess work needed. Only reason for not giving it a 5 star rating is because, since you have to leave the thermometer plugged in to take advantage of the graphing info that is generated based on temp and time, it would be nice to see the temp from the lock screen or notification screen on the iPhone.

### 4/5 — Get great results in the kitchen!

*2015-03-07, version 1.5.2*

The Range thermometer and app really help to eliminate guesswork when cooking meat. Ovens vary, but you know exactly what's happening with Range. I love having alerts sound on a different iOS device than the one that's plugged in to the thermometer. Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Hands down the best cooking thermometer out there

*2014-11-26, version 1.5*

I've been looking for a good reliable cooking thermometer for years. After finding the Range thermometer my quest has ended. The thermometer is very accurate and the app is easy to use and comes with a few basic ranges such as beef, pork, chicken, turkey and fish. There are also settings for cooking candy and boiling eggs. The app also lets you create your own temperature ranges if the pre-programmed ones are not enough.

### 5/5 — Works Awesome

*2014-10-06, version 1.2.2*

I don't get the review of someone burning up there probe to the wire on the grill. The instructions say it is safe in oven to 450 degrees. Of course it can't handle a flame on it! That would obviously be hotter! Use common sense and it works great.

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2014-09-09, version 1.2.2*

Chicken comes out perfect. Keep it up guys.

### 5/5 — Simple, great design, easy to use

*2014-08-29, version 1.2.2*

Great tool and app! I use this pretty much every time I cook or grill meat/fish now, and it’s been an amazing tool for getting perfectly-cooked protein every time - delicious. Great design for both thermometers, and the app is super-easy to install and use.

### 5/5 — Simple, Useful, Effective

*2014-08-28, version 1.2.2*

Great app! Loved how easy it is to use, and the notifications on other iOS devices is killer!

So far I've use the meat range on fish, chicken and hamburgers. In each case, the temperature has been spot on, and only taken a few seconds (from not being used, aka the Range is at room temp) to get an accurate reading.

The only minor quip I have is at the moment there's no universal setting for fish, but I suspect this is because seafood has different temp ranges depending on the type

### 5/5 — Great app with the Range

*2014-08-07, version 1.2.2*

I was super excited to receive my Range after their Kickstarter campaign and after using it several times now, I can say it's lived up to its hype. Love how the app shows cooking temperatures for main meats and how I can now accurately track cooking progress even when I'm not standing in the kitchen. Well-designed hardware and app! Most of all, it makes cooking even more fun.

### 5/5 — Remote alerts are awesome!

*2014-07-05, version 1.2.2*

I'm a home-brewer; this thing worked flawlessly. It did everything it said would. The remote alerts were a great help, as I didn't have to baby-sit the mash. I especially like setting multiple alerts (up and down), so I can keep the temp in the desired range.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Touch and go

*2018-12-07, version 2.2.5*

Ever since I have upgraded to the new iPhone the thermometer will not connect. Good luck to everyone else. Looking for an alternative smart thermometer.

### 1/5 — FRUSTRATING

*2018-05-13, version 2.2.2*

Update. Many issues with connecting. After the update it won’t connect and the ap keeps crashing. Now what? Dinner is ruined?

### 1/5 — Crashes every time

*2017-04-07, version 2.0.1*

Can't use it with my Range Dial. It crashes every time I use it. Please fix it.

### 1/5 — App needs some serious work

*2017-04-02, version 2.0*

I received the Range dial as a gift. The concept is great, but the app does not work. I'm unable to get a temperature to hold. The temp grid doesn't show up. Please put some work into your app.

### 1/5 — Bummed out

*2015-05-20, version 1.5.2*

I had high expectations, but now I am on my second probe. And I cannot get this app to work on my iPhone 6 to display temperatures.

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2014-08-05, version 1.2.2*

Tried on 2 iPads and only got to work briefly. Unplugged and tried it again 10 minutes later and won't work. Not reliable

### 1/5 — Doesn't work

*2014-05-26, version 1.2.2*

Won't work in either my iPhone or ipad. Don't waste your money purchasing this expensive thermometer.

### 1/5 — Grill + probe = FIRE

*2014-05-21, version 1.2.2*

Nice idea, was vey excited to try. Doesn't appear to be compatible with grilling as the probe caught fire and burnt through to the wire.

### 2/5 — Crapped Out

*2015-01-30, version 1.5.2*

I backed the Range thermometer on Kickstarter was totally excited about the entire concept. App worked OK but my thermometer stopped working after several uses. I contacted customer support (which was not easy I may add) and finally heard back from Risto apologizing for the delay and letting me know my Range was out of warranty and they were out of stock on my model but would be happy to give me a discount on an upgrade. Not sure why I would fork out another $50 when I already backed them on their Kickstarter campaign and only got a few cooks out of their defective thermometer. You would have thought they would have taken care of their initial backers and avoided the negative reviews - I will also be posting this on amazon. Great idea - poor execution.

### 2/5 — Works fine on later iPads, crashes on iPad 1

*2014-12-20, version 1.5.1*

One big feature I considered for the Range thermometer was compatibility with the iPad 1, because we have an extra one and would like to use it to sit by the oven and record the temperature. At the moment, the app crashes on launch every time on the iPad 1.

### 5/5 — My first medium rare steak

*2022-04-04, version 2.2.9*

I was pretty excited about trying this out. Watching the temperature go up from the other room was awesome. It also lets you know the estimated time to ideal temperature based on how fast food is heating up. I honestly don’t know what level of done my steak was in the past, but after seeing what an actual medium rare looks like, I feel lucky I never gave myself food poisoning in my uninformed cooking adventures and grateful for the culinary deliciousness I now cook with the Range.

### 5/5 — Love it

*2018-12-24, version 2.2.5*

I’ve had a range since their kickstarter campaign and I upgraded when they came out with the dial. It’s make cooking in the kitchen way easier and more precise. Only thing I wish they would add is a watch widget so do I don’t need to be near my phone.

### 5/5 — Desired feature

*2016-08-05, version 1.7*

To be able to directly plug ANY thermometer cable into the 3.5mm jack would make this app a MUST for every home cook. It would also be a great gateway to your product.
Suggestion: make this app function with any thermometer cable and charge a small price ($2-$5)

With your product, include a coupon code for the AppStore to get the app for free.

I don't want to hurt your business so I will rate 5 stars even though I can't currently use it.

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2016-05-15, version 1.7*

I use this all the time for grilling. Indispensable.

### 5/5 — Very accurate

*2015-10-02, version 1.5.3*

In addition to being accurate, the remote alerts are very convenient.

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2015-08-19, version 1.5.3*

The Range device works jus as it should. I have used it on the grill and in the oven. I verified the temperature with another thermometer and it is right on.

The ability for graphing is interesting.

Maybe someday if I get into brewing or candy making, I'll get to try all of the features.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2015-08-16, version 1.5.3*

Great product - I use it all the time now for BBQ and oven. Great for timing roasts as you can see the rate of rising temperature. Love it.

### 5/5 — Best thermometer

*2015-01-22*

Coupled with fantastically designed app, and regular updates.

### 5/5 — Works great and fun too

*2015-01-02, version 1.5.1*

My range arrived quickly after ordering online and it works great. At first I had problems using it with an older iPad, but the Supermechanical customer support guys worked fast to make changes and provide an update. I've since used it on an iPhone and a new iPad Air 2 and they all work great. Lots of great features to help you make the perfect roast. I love it!

### 5/5 — Great companion app for the Range thermometer

*2014-12-30, version 1.5.1*

I’ve only had one opportunity to use the app with my Aqua Range thermometer (for home brewing) but I think the app is wonderful! It’s simple to use but does take a minute or two to get it sorted out. I’ve had no compatibility or crashing issues, but I did initially have an issue where my primary iPhone couldn’t get remote alerts from the old iPhone connected to the Aqua Range. This was quickly fixed by Supermechanical’s support team (Thanks, John!) and remote alerts do work now.

If there was one feature I’d like to see, it would be the ability to get live readings remotely, rather than just notifications when the temperature hits a specific number. For my purposes, that would merely add some extra “cool” factor, but I can see where that’d be useful for people who need very accurate temperature control.

Anyway, thanks for the awesome app and keep up the good work, Supermechanical!
