### 4/5 — Magazine is good. App is “ok”.

*2022-11-24, version 5.8.5*

My particular beef is with having to constantly restore purchases. This is not unique to MagPi. Likely it is an App Store issue. However, when I tried to write a review in the app, it was stuck in portrait view on my iPad Pro and I could not see or use the right side of the keyboard. Also after restoring my purchases (I’ve been a subscriber for several years) it was downloading the current issue and asking me to pay for back issues.

### 2/5 — where’s the account creation page?

*2022-01-31, version 5.8.5*

Can’t figure out where to create an account on the website

### 2/5 — Poor app

*2019-08-29*

Couldn’t purchase issues due to some connection errors on server side.

### 1/5 — Don’t buy this 🙁

*2018-11-24, version 5.0.1*

I commend the raspberry pi foundation’s commitment to free education by making the PDF issues available for free on the raspberry pi web site, but the PDF download button is disabled in the mobile app. Why discriminate against mobile app users vs. laptop users? 🙁

### 1/5 — Won’t even let you purchase!

*2018-03-16, version 5.0.1*

Every book that you try to view/purchase comes up as ‘unable to process right now’. Useless app...deleted.

### 1/5 — Don’t buy if using iPhone!

*2017-12-14, version 5.0.1*

If you plan to read MagPi on an iPhone, DO NOT buy the subscription. The digital subscription is really only usable on a big screen. Even then I does not take advantage of the screen orientation.

I sent the developer a question asking if this was usable on iPhone - specifically if the content formatted for the screen. I never received a reply. I purchased a single issue to test. It is just a digital representation of the magazine.

I want to support the Raspberry Pi foundation but the digital subscription is not a usable option.

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2017-09-09, version 5.0.1*

This is one of those totally pointless apps. It's possible to download the PDF versions of MAGPI for free from the website!

### 1/5 — Gave it 1 star because 0 is not an option

*2017-05-05, version 5.0.1*

It is outrageous to charge this price for a digital version of 3 month old information that is free on the internet. MagPi needs to seriously rethink their strategy here.

### 2/5 — Worked fine, but stopped. No response from MagPi

*2016-05-03, version 4.7*

I love the magazines in print and decided to 'go electronic'. Downloaded the app and bought a magazine. Was enjoying reading it then one day got an error that there are no magazines to display. Have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted .. etc repeatedly but with no luck. Now I can't see either magazines to buy, or the one I have already bought.
Dropped a note to MagPi through the web site's contact us page and have heard nothing. Very frustrating and have now wasted money on a magazine I cannot read.
Until it's fixed, don't use it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2026-08-24, version 5.9.7*

This app is trash!

### 1/5 — Crash prone!

*2026-04-15*

Subscribed for a year and find it crashing every time I try to open the app. I want my money back if you cant fix it! Annoys as before paying for atleast I was able to view the old magazine and free copies atleast!

Wastes the paying user’s time!

### 1/5 — Horrible usability

*2024-03-18, version 5.8.9*

The raspberry pi website says this app makes reading the magazine issues easier so I gave it a try. The issues are just a long list of covers and as expected you either buy the issue or subscribe to get access. Preview shows tiny text and does not support zoom. Search is broken - searched for “issue 30” and the results show other random issues. It is also not possible to filter accessible issues either, say if you pay for some or want to read the initial 30 free issues, prepare to scroll until you find it.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-03-31*

I get nothing but a blank white screen when the app opens and nothing happens.

### 1/5 — Do not subscribe via Apple

*2021-03-29, version 5.4.2*

Not easy to login in lose my subscription all the time. Cant login

### 1/5 — Why?

*2020-01-07, version 5.3*

With such an impressive publisher, I’m at a loss as to the point of this app?? I can only guess it’s a random stab at the odd punter for the odd purchase. This app could have been tips and tricks like the recent edition, with advertising, editorial and interaction.

It’s a news stand on the corner of a street.

### 1/5 — Totally disappointed

*2020-01-07*

Very poor app that basically freezes and doesn’t work. Glad I tried it with free back issues before subscribing.

### 1/5 — Money Grab

*2019-12-26, version 5.3*

I paid for a subscription but old issues don’t stay downloaded and I am asked to pay for them over just to read. Emails to support go unanswered. Don’t waste your money.

Update after a month... still no response from support, another email to them sent.

### 1/5 — Won’t restore purchases

*2019-11-06, version 5.3*

I’ve come to reinstall the app for which I have a subscription but when I attempt to restore purchases it says that there is no valid receipt. If I attempt to rebuy the subscription I just get a message saying that I’m already subscribed. This prevents me from using what I’ve paid for and I get no response from messages sent via the contact us page.

### 1/5 — Bad support

*2019-02-18, version 5.2*

Lost access to editions I had already paid for. Emailed support and after a week still no response. Cancelled my subscription and will just download the free version from now on. If you’re going to take money for something that is normally free you need to provide a measurable advantage.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — New Subscriber

*2025-03-16, version 5.9.2*

First time that I have subscribed to the Raspberry Pi’s magazine. I have had a chance to read it earlier and felt it was worth getting a subscription. I will review it again when I use it more frequently. Thanks.

### 5/5 — Редкий пример отличной информации

*2024-11-21*

Этот журнал находка для любителей DIY работающих с Raspberry. Большое количество полезной информации в одном месте. Спасибо авторам.

### 5/5 — Customer Service A+

### 5/5 — Everything you ever want to know about the Raspberry Pi…

*2021-07-27, version 5.4.2*

Like it says in the title, if you want to know the in’s and out’s of this little amazing computer — from the people who actually dabble in it — it doesn’t hurt to take a look at this app and all the downloadable e-magazines they have.

### 5/5 — Fantastic!

*2020-10-18, version 5.3*

Great app, easy to use and can search all the back issues. Wish all magazine apps were this good.

### 5/5 — It’s great at what it does

*2018-12-07, version 5.0.1*

I’ve experienced very little issues with this app. When I subscribed, I was able to access my magazines without any issue. However, for those people that would like free versions of the magazines, all you need to do his download the PDF from Magpi’s website in safari and then under the shared tab send the document to iBooks. You’ll have the same experience as the app.

### 5/5 — Excellent!

*2017-04-02, version 5.0.1*

What an amazing app.
