### 5/5 — Amazing App!

*2018-07-20, version 4.51*

Great optics simulation software. Best money I have spent in a long time. Keep up the good work!

### 5/5 — Most Powerful Optics App on the iPad

*2017-10-06, version 4.51*

This is a powerful app for simulating optics. It includes many different types of optics and models a wide variety of optical phenomena. Great learning tool.

### 5/5 — Astonishingly Good !!

*2017-09-28, version 4.4*

This is an App that I never thought I would find ... and it works very well indeed.

I am old enough to remember colleagues at work doing ray-traces by hand, with only a slide-rule and log tables for assistance; and recently I drew a ball lens [to show its spherical aberration] ray-by-ray in a CAD package. ... This tedious exercise, of course, only gave me a result for one wavelength and one refractive index.

Compare that with the performance of this App ... which, on an iPad Pro 9.7" responds almost instantaneously to parameter changes.

Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in Optics.
... It could easily justify the purchase of an iPad.

The developer is very responsive and helpful too.

### 4/5 — Best optics app

*2016-12-05, version 4.02*

It's a good app for figuring out what each type of lens does to light passing through. Very nice.

### 5/5 — Вам это не нужно

*2016-10-31, version 4.00*

### 5/5 — Amazing!!!

*2016-04-27, version 3.24*

I've been looking for a product like this for years. Simple enough to use, but provides enough control to form aspheres, really any lens! It can import zemax models too! Absolutely amazing - if you work with optics this is a no brainer.

### 5/5 — Thanks!

*2016-02-17, version 3.11*

For an awesome app

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2014-12-04, version 2.30*

Great for understanding optics and how they interact. Wish I had more time to write more stuff about Ray Lab.

### 4/5 — Nice job

*2014-08-22, version 2.22*

Having an export function to programs like TracePro would make this a killer app.

### 5/5 — It's awesome!!!!

*2014-01-31, version 2.00*

Good Job!!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Cannot be used in a meaningful way

*2020-05-03, version 4.71*

Fatal flaws such as the exit pupil or surface order that cannot be changed make this app useless

A real shame...

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2017-09-23, version 4.4*

Wast of money

### 1/5 — How to unsuscribe

*2017-07-30, version 4.02*

The path to unsubscribe from the Pro subscription is very convoluted and hard to find. It is dot described in the help or documentation pages. It should be as easy as subscribing.

To unsubscribe go to Settings -> iTunes & App Store. Tap your Apple ID, a selection box appears. Tap View Apple ID. Log in. Scroll down to the hidden "subscriptions" button. This takes you to a page that lists subscriptions. From there you can click unsuscribe. Multiple hidden options and no instructions make this unethical by both Apple and Raymak. As other users comment: a rip-off

### 1/5 — This App is rip-off

*2017-03-02, version 4.02*

Be warned, what you get for $2.99 is basically the ability to try out the app. Although there are some basic optical components that are available, most require you to upgrade to the Pro version (subscription @ $3.99/month). The analysis tools are not even available without upgrading. A serious student would not find this useful without upgrading (and they probably won't subscribe). Further, a serious modeler could not use the app to replace other more powerful tools. The market here then is just the student or hobbyist. My advice to the seller would be to charge more, but give customers something they can actually use for say, a course in geometric optics or basic lens design. Nix the subscription as that's a good way to kill your product. It does have potential. I should get my money back!!

### 1/5 — Bait and in app purchase

*2015-04-13, version 3.02*

Bait and in app purchase - $21

### 2/5 — Dark theme

*2022-07-31, version 4.75*

Not fonctionnal with dark theme. Text unreadable!

### 2/5 — Big Oof

*2019-04-12, version 4.66*

Instant crash- after turning on image preview in 3D view, now the file instantly crashes every time. Will never be able to open again- buyer beware

### 3/5 — Subscription does not work

*2020-01-14*

Help please...

The app does not work after I re-enabled my subscription since some interruption from my previous subscription. Do I need to buy the “RayLab Pro Bundle” at the same time with the “RayLab Pro Subscription”? From the description in the app, it seems I don’t need to.

### 3/5 — IAP Bought

*2017-03-28, version 4.02*

RayLab Pro Upgrade is not valid.

### 4/5 — Raylab pro2

*2021-04-18, version 4.75*

I no see raylab pro 2 ?

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Excellent app!

*2025-08-03, version 4.76*

I love this app because it shows the angle of incidence where the light is reflected.

There are a few improvements I would love to see in this app that should be a part of the free portion of this app. 1. The ray should change color each time it is reflected off an object. 2. Add the ability to isolate reflected rays (1st bounce, 2nd bounce, etc.) 3. Add non-reflective surfaces.

That’s everything I can think of at the moment.

### 5/5 — Performance v. Cost ratio => worth trying

*2025-06-19, version 4.76*

As a retired EE interested in beam shaping of diode lasers I can’t justify subscribing to commercial optics design software- Ray Lab has been a respectable substitute. Thanks Kumar for developing it.

### 5/5 — Best raytracing app on iPad

*2024-02-17, version 4.75*

Ray tracing software is so essential yet so unbelievably expensive on PC OS that its a joke… This app does what $1000 software from a bigger name company does for just $100. Only wish I could use my PCs processor to run it. Fantastic overall. A buggy at times but as IPad and mobile devices get more powerful I’ve noticed better results.

### 5/5 — Amazing!!!

*2023-12-11, version 4.75*

I've been looking for a product like this for years. Simple enough to use, but provides enough control to form aspheres, really any lens! It can import zemax models too! Absolutely amazing - if you work with optics this is a no brainer.

### 5/5 — App crashes and dark mode text

*2021-01-05, version 4.75*

The app crashes when trying to open a model after toggling on “show when model is open” in the title/author/description menu. (I found that this did not work for renaming models anyway).

In IOS dark mode, text remains black, making it difficult to read against the grey menu

### 5/5 — Это нужно

*2020-06-22, version 4.71*

Все ученые и инженеры пользуются продукцией Эппл, так что не надо тут

### 5/5 — Excellent optics tool

*2020-02-08, version 4.71*

Great tool for ray tracing and other optics related calculations. Highly recommend. Great service as well. Hope they continue development!

### 5/5 — Wonderful optic software

*2019-09-20, version 4.71*

This is a really great app for optical simulation. It has many advanced type of optical elements that can be used. Great for learning and teaching. Great and affordable alternative to ZeMax. Support is excellent and quick. The developers are really listening to users.

### 5/5 — Нужно больше прилодений.

*2019-06-25, version 4.70*

Нужно ещё больше прилодений!

### 5/5 — How is this free?!

*2019-05-07, version 4.69*

It’s basically Zemax for iPad.
