## Newest reviews (2 of 22)

### 3/5 — Ok but not great

*2023-02-23, version 1.1*

Awkward to change pages. Recently the app takes me to a page for Peak Insurance and I can’t get to the actual weather.
But Ray’s forecast is always more accurate than the others.

### 2/5 — Font Is Too Small

*2022-04-28, version 1.0*

We’ve relied on Ray’s Weather for our quirky mountain weather for many years. The font is now unreadable for many people and can’t be expanded. The forecast is useless for us if we can’t read it.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Ray doesn’t return his shopping carts

*2025-12-11, version 4.2.0*

The app is garbage, and someone told me he doesn’t return his shopping carts because “they pay people to do that.”

### 1/5 — Horrible App

*2025-12-08, version 4.2.0*

I got the paid subscription and now the dashboard won’t load my favorites. Spend your money elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Never Worked

*2025-01-09, version 3.7.0*

I was logged into my account, but I never got the premium content. All I had was the forecast information that was free. It was very frustrating! It did the same thing on the website.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t show asheville weather

*2024-05-22, version 3.7.0*

New app design forces me to look at Boone weather by default, and it takes many taps to look at asheville weather. This appears to be in deference to their new paid subscription service which of course makes viewing asheville weather easy by allowing “favorites.” Edit: the best workaround I can find is to tap on the Map button and then choose asheville. Glad to find it, but it’s still not right that easily getting to the correct forecast for my area requires a subscription.

Edit: they have changed the app icon to be a white guy’s face. Not what I want to see when I turn my phone on every morning. Please change it back to puffy clouds or something pleasant, please!

### 1/5 — Stick with the (free) browser version

*2023-12-10*

Legacy users are irked by paying to download the app and then being given the same service as the free browser version (including large ads across the app), but the app (required to access subscription content) itself is problematic even for paid users — the UX is clunky and awkward to navigate, filled with ads, and slow to load and crashes even on the iPhone 15 and across recent iOS updates.

You NEED to download the app to access favorites, which is an issue for those not living in Boone, and that requires a subscription for premium services, which really only gives Boone users access to a snow map and other users a retroactive “benefit” of not having to click multiple times to see their local weather — which can only be done through the app — and was historically included with the app download fee.

I understand the desire to further monetize the service, but failing to survey current users or grandfather them in and then putting out a janky app was just bad business. We should all get our money back from Ray, and Ray should get his back from whatever crappy app dev he used.

### 1/5 — So much for a good app

*2023-11-24, version 3.1.3*

The recent upgrade is terrible. I paid for the app a few years ago and could look at the weather for my area. Now with the “ upgrade “ they want more money and my old subscription is useless. I couldn’t even leave the review they asked for in the app. I’m just gonna delete it and be done. Hope they are happy over there.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t show asheville weather

*2023-11-19*

New app design forces me to look at Boone weather by default, and it takes many taps to look at asheville weather. This appears to be in deference to their new paid subscription service which of course makes viewing asheville weather easy by allowing “favorites.”

### 2/5 — Good forecasts; sorry app

*2024-01-25, version 3.2.0*

Updated forecasts are issued twice a day or sometimes more often. But the app keeps showing the same forecast for days. The only way way to force it to fetch the updated forecast seems to be to totally close the app, not just switch to some other app and come back.
It would be a decent app if only it worked.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t show asheville weather

*2023-11-28*

### 2/5 — wait to purchase until app updates!

*2023-11-25, version 3.1.3*

long time ray’s fan here. i bought the subscription without hesitation and everything was good until i had to use the app for access to the members-only account. the app freezes up almost every time it is opened and i have to restart my phone to use the app again…. total pain. i’m back to looking at the (limited) forecast through the browser.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Free service is fine!

*2025-11-30, version 4.2.0*

Given I don’t pay for the app, I find that the app offers a lot of into-all I need in fact. I have a hard time reading the font in the morning (wish it was a darker font) but otherwise the app is good.

### 5/5 — Love the local

*2025-05-22, version 4.2.0*

Thanks so much for an accurate local weather

If you need a new spot for a weather station How about Creston

Take care n God Bless

### 5/5 — Such a better app!

*2025-03-20, version 4.2.0*

The old app was terrible. This one is phenomenal.

### 5/5 — Correction of a prior review

*2024-04-01, version 3.6.0*

One morning, while attempting to check the weather on the Rays Weather App, I became totally frustrated by no updated information. I soon realized that the problem was my phone, as it needed to be reset. Since then, updates have been right on time and accurate for our area! We love their calendars and have given many as gifts! Five stars!

### 5/5 — Fabulous app, Ray is so accurate

*2024-01-31, version 3.6.0*

I have followed this weather guy for maybe 30 years and he is unfailingly accurate and now that he has built a larger team and has an app, I am ever more satisfied. I read all the complaints here on the low star reviews and those must be from people who are 80 years old and don't know how to use an app because everything they complain about you can fix yourself in the personalized settings for the app.

### 5/5 — Loved for years

*2023-12-10, version 3.2.0*

Rays has been great for accurate forecast in Boone for years. The transition is a little buggy but it will work out. I appreciate the info for the past 20+ years.

### 5/5 — Great addition to a great weather website

*2022-04-12, version 1.0*

I have followed Ray’s Weather on the website for years. This app is a terrific addition to the service. It is an even faster way to check your local weather.

### 4/5 — Pay and ads

*2023-03-13, version 1.1*

My only complaint about the app is that you both have to purchase the app for $1.99 and it still includes advertising across the app. It would be nice if payment removed ads.

### 4/5 — Great AVL forecast, app improving

*2022-05-12, version 1.0*

Thanks for bringing the app back!

Please add the option to increase font size, on both iPhone and iPad I find myself having to squint with sizing in this newest version of the app.

I also had an issue with the forecast defaulting to Boone instead of asheville but I emailed the developer and they shows me how to set the default using the “favorites” part of the menu. Thanks to the developer for responding to the email inquiry.

### 3/5 — Bait and switch

*2023-11-21, version 3.0.0*

Was great - you paid for the app and could set your favorite- now it has updated and that is all gone and you have to pay monthly to get the old features- so disappointing - can’t set a favorite forecast and the interface is much clunkier
