Some of the channels are duplicated and appear on the “Select TG” screen multiple times. When I open the app, there are always random channels selected and I have to change which ones I want to listen to every time. Sometimes, after closing the app, it’ll randomly start playing audio again, especially if I connect Bluetooth. ### 4/5 — Latest update reintroduces the connection timeout bug *2025-09-14* Updated Sept 13th, 2025 —— Unless the app is in the foreground, AND there is semi-frequent activity, the app goes to sleep and drops its connection to the server. Depending on what channels I’m listening to, I’m almost always having to unlock my phone screen and get it to wake up before it’ll re-establish its connection to the server. This is pretty frustrating as the long gaps in time have me wondering if it’s truly quiet, or the app died again. Can’t you please fix this?! Also add a few memory buttons that can be used to remember various talkgroup settings? Depending on where I am, I listen to various talk groups IDs and specific channels. Instead of having to reprogram those every time, it would be convenient to recall mem-1, mem-2, or mem-3 for example. ### 3/5 — CarPlay broken with 1.10 Update *2025-07-12* I really enjoy this app, 5 stars before the newest 1.10 update because it has made it so that CarPlay doesn’t display the app in the “now playing” section. I can no longer see the talk group or skip ahead using the steering wheel controls. I think this might be due to the way the app treats the audio as background only. Is it possible to add a toggle to turn off the background only audio so CarPlay works again? **Developer response:** Thanks for your suggestion, we will work on something that should satisfy everyone. ### 3/5 — Notification and connection issues *2025-07-11* With the latest version released yesterday, the connection is still lost if paused or live turned off and the app is backgrounded (but not closed) for a few minutes. When you bring the app back up and try to go live or search, it just has the loading line forever. The app really needs reconnect logic. Also, with the simultaneous audio app change (where you can play other audio/video with RDIO still going), I can no longer see the radio call on CarPlay or my Lock Screen to know which TG is playing. ### 2/5 — Won’t stay connected *2025-03-24, version 1.9.6* The app just doesn’t seem to want to stay connected to the talk group. ### 2/5 — Great Scanner Interface - Subscription Broke *2025-02-22* I love the interface and makes listening to my SDRTrunk and Trunk Recorder system audio remotely very useful and kind of enjoyable. I would rate this 5 Stars if I could subscribe to the premium features. When you click subscribe the entire app closes and you get dumped back to your phone Home Screen. If you click restore purchase nothing happens… I have never found an app on the App Store that offers to sell you a service and then won’t let you pay for it… Since we can’t pay for the app can the developer include some of the premium features in a regular version? I don’t care about the ads they really don’t effect the usability, I just really want the ability to 1) download audio 2) auto start live feed 3) and turn the darn button beep off If developer address these issue would be 5 stars. Further note the web client is spectacular, let’s just make the app spectacular again!!! **Developer response:** We are sorry for your inconvenience. We are working to correct the situation. I just wish the app wouldn’t crash when I try to purchase the subscription. ### 2/5 — Drops connection if idle *2024-10-29* Connection drops if it’s idle, and there is no way to purchase the app other than a subscription. I’d be happy to pay a one-time fee, but it’s not worth a subscription, especially since the back-end of RDIO is open source. ### 1/5 — Constantly disconnects, Unreliable *2024-10-18* Developer, see my previous review. This is not an issue with the scanner provider. All of the issues with this app stopping and not running in the background is your issue. When do you plan on providing new updates to make this $30 app reliable and to have the ability to run in the background? Every time I open another app and allow this to run in the background, your app breaks the connection to the scanner that is running. It is not my fault because others on here has left the same review about your app not having the ability to truly run in the background and you have yet to address this, but rather o it the blame somewhere else. This is a garbage app not worth $30. **Developer response:** Please make sure the server to which you are connecting to is properly configured. Unfortunately we do not have control on how people do install how server. ### 2/5 — Web Version 100% better *2024-10-02* Ads take up half the screen even when you pay screen cuts off buttons if you have a lot of channels. Use the web app version this app is not worth the money. It won’t stay running in the background on newer iPhones so just save your 30$ ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Video ads *2026-08-21* I have no problem with ads. But it’s pretty low to mute the scanner audio when a video ad pops up. Then you have to click the speaker icon to unmute scanner audio which forces you to listen to both scanner and commercial **Developer response:** Thank you for reporting the issue. Please stay tuned for the next update, which should resolve it. ### 1/5 — Randomly opens in background *2026-06-01* This app randomly opens itself in the background on a regular basis and tries to stream, even with no TG selected, and interrupts other audio. Seems to do it more when I’m connected to Bluetooth. Developer said they would be releasing an update to fix this “in a few weeks,” but that was months ago and it never came. ### 1/5 — Now has Ads even with a Subscription *2026-04-04, version 1.15.0* The latest update now has ads even for subscribers. Time to look for an alternative to Rdio Scanner. Update: I received a response to this review from the developer who proceeded to gaslight me. ### 1/5 — Very Limited *2025-12-30, version 1.14.3* Basic if that, ended up switching to Thinline Radio. ### 1/5 — Randomly opens in background *2025-12-26, version 1.14.3* This app randomly opens in the background and tries to stream (even if I have no TG selected) multiple times a day. Seems to do it more when I’m connected to Bluetooth. ### 1/5 — No customer support *2025-12-24, version 1.14.3* Purchased the app Monday 12/22 and have not heard back about getting the needed access code, sent 3 emails and nothing. Just give me a refund of $39.99 ### 1/5 — NO Comms NO Connection 🤷‍♂️ *2025-09-16, version 1.14.1* Lost connection or signal, pretty much lost everything since last update, all functionality gone. Deleted, reinstalled & Restored & still not working. Nothing works, Live feed for any TG is non functional, selected/deselected all TG’s, cant even listen to the last previous call. Crazy but true, but this worked flawlessly just last month. Please fix it, redo the code or what have you. What ever needs doing. ### 1/5 — Will Not Stay Connected to the Server *2025-03-11* Ever since the March 2025 update, the app will not stay connected to the server. Previously I would run into problems occasionally but could reconnect by clicking on settings and hitting connect. I never understood why that was necessary. Why shouldn’t clicking on live on the main screen automatically ensure a connection is active or attempts to reconnect? Now it’s even worse. The only way I can connect is by killing the app and then reopening it. This is becoming too frustrating given the annual cost of the app. **Developer response:** Please update 1.9.6 ### 1/5 — Worked great for a few days *2025-01-11, version 1.8.4* Then stopped working. Hasn’t worked for several days now. No response from tech support through email or Facebook page. Very disappointing. ### 1/5 — No link when opening other apps *2024-10-22* When i open other apps while listening to rdio scanner it jumps to no link and i have to reboot the app. Can you fix this so it runs smooth in ios background ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Love it but… *2026-04-24* I love this app. But lately have had issues of it getting stuck while using on my iPad. I even replaced my iPad thinking it was the issue. It will work and then all of a sudden I will no longer be hearing radio traffic and look over it will have either the blue or red light lit up and no sound. I turn off and on and it may work for another second or so then does the same thing. I have relaunched the app, rebooted both the old and new iPad, reset both etc still happening. **Developer response:** Thank you for your comment. This is a huge update despite any other minor issues that others might be having. Thanks so much for delivering on this. It was much needed! Appreciate all the efforts being done to continue to make this app better and better! **Developer response:** Thanks! Understand that the software hosting the service is open source (google rdio-scanner), it’s on github. The app and app creator is completely independent from any scanner you’re trying to listen to. The responsibility for server URL or access codes falls to whomever is hosting the scanner instance. And, in my experience hosting a scanner, 8/10 times when an app user experiences trouble it’s because of server trouble, not app trouble. ### 5/5 — The app works *2023-09-11* I’ve been using this app (paid version) for about a month now. I host a server as well. Some have commented about the app going inactive in the background. I had trouble with this, but it ended up being server side. The server was feeding mp3 files, which iPhones don’t like. Once I activated the file conversion feature, I don’t have this problem. For you paid subscribers, to download historical audio, the host for your server must have this turned on, or you will get an error when trying to download from the app. A feature that would be _fantastic_ would be a compilation of available servers for users to choose. ### 5/5 — I like it *2023-07-31* I wish there was a way for Rdio-Scanner to catalog existing servers.
