## What is Read PDF Out Loud?

Read PDFs out loud with offline, on-device AI voices. This app turns your PDFs, EPUB and DOCX files, pasted text, and clipboard content into natural speech. Your content is read and processed locally where possible, so listening works even offline and your content stays private.

KEY FEATURES

• Local AI Text-to-Speech — listen to any document with natural-sounding offline AI voices: 56 voices across 31 languages, with no internet connection required to read. A few languages need a one-time voice download first.
• PDF, EPUB, DOCX, Text & Notes — import PDF files, EPUB ebooks and Word DOCX documents, paste text, bring in content from your clipboard, or write your own notes, and start listening right away.
• Scan Paper Pages — photograph a page with the camera or pick photos from your library; they become a PDF and are read with on-device text recognition.
• Follow-Along Highlighting — see the current sentence highlighted directly on the page as it's read aloud, with optional word-by-word highlighting.
• Playback Controls — adjust reading speed, jump between sentences, and keep listening in the background or with the screen locked.
• Notes & Bookmarks — mark passages, add notes, and jump back to them later.
• Reading Progress — your library, progress, and preferences are saved on your device automatically.

HOW IT WORKS

Import a PDF, EPUB or DOCX file, scan a page, paste text, or bring in text from your clipboard, then tap play. The app reads it aloud with an on-device AI voice while highlighting along as it goes. Pick up exactly where you left off any time you return.

The app reads text-based PDF pages and uses on-device text recognition for scanned or image-only pages, so accuracy on those pages can vary. EPUB and DOCX files are read as flowing text rather than fixed pages, and in DOCX only the main body is read - not headers, footers, footnotes or comments. Corrupted, encrypted, DRM-protected or unsupported files may not extract correctly, and older .doc files cannot be opened. On-device processing speed and voice quality can vary by device.

FREE AND PREMIUM

Free: every feature is available, with up to 15 minutes of listening per 24-hour period (across every document). The allowance comes back 24 hours after you start listening, not at midnight.

Premium: listen without a daily limit with a one-time Lifetime purchase, a monthly subscription, or a 3-month subscription. The Lifetime and 3-month plans include every feature. The monthly plan does not include word-by-word highlighting or skipping headers and footers in PDFs. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings.
