### 2/5 — Erased all recipes

*2026-07-17, version 4.2.3*

Recent upgrade to app June/July 2026 erased all recipes. Now asking to reregister and pay a chunk of $$.
Not at all happy. Do not trust this app.

Prior to this, it was awesome.

### 3/5 — Disappointed with updates

*2026-07-12, version 4.2.3*

I have always relied on this app to keep my recipes safe and handy. I opened it yesterday to find a recipe I liked and I couldn’t get in. Today I opened it and found out MY RECIPES are no longer there. I’m very upset about this. I don’t have them anywhere else and will either have to look for them elsewhere or tell my husband that we can no longer have some of our favorite dishes. Thanks loads. I’m in my eighties and my memory isn’t all that great. Now I have to find a new app that won’t remove my recipes.

I am not paying for this. It’s always been free and didn’t lose my recipes. Forget about getting any money from me.

### 4/5 — Love this app for what it can do (bug fix needed)

*2026-07-10, version 4.2.3*

I love this app for what it can do with linked recipes! It pulls the info and lists it in an organized manner do you don’t have to look up the webpages and get buried in ads!

I use the app on iOS, and there is unfortunately a bug right now where I am unable to manually add a personal recipe… the only bypass is by going to the actual recipebox website, manually typing in my personal recipe— and then going back into the app to add my food photo. If this feature worked in the app it would be perfect.

### 3/5 — Not great / Ads

*2026-07-05, version 4.2.3*

The app is convenient. I’ll admit but I paid for a subscription just to get an ad for Walmart every single time I opened the app. I don’t understand that…. ?? I understand if I wasn’t paying for it, but since I am, I don’t want any ads at all. It’s annoying.

### 1/5 — Absolute Trash

*2026-07-04, version 4.2.3*

The app is pretty good when it doesn’t wipe your ENTIRE recipe list clean after more than six years of use!!! Seriously?! Then it’s a $55 annual subscription fee to even use it anymore. Use Paprika, way better and WAY cheaper.

### 1/5 — Change for the worse

*2026-07-03, version 4.2.3*

The latest changes wiped out my recipes and now it wants you to create an account and pay!!!

### 2/5 — Why do I need a login?

*2026-07-03, version 4.2.3*

Been using this apps for over 5 years. The recent update required me to establish a username for the first time. This erased alls my saved recipes. It was a great app, but I'll stop using it before the dump my data again or institute a paywall.

### 1/5 — Do not get this app

*2026-07-02, version 4.2.3*

I’ve been using this app for years. Then they suddenly started charging and erased all my recipes. If you want to keep your recipes DO NOT trust this app

### 1/5 — Need a subscription

*2026-07-02, version 4.2.3*

You can only save 5 recipes for free. I’m saving via URL/internet ones and you can only do 5. Waste of time recipes

### 1/5 — Unable to log in

*2026-07-02, version 4.2.3*

Says no user found when I’m trying to login and I’ve had this account for years. Reached out to support and still have no response. I have recipes on there from years ago that I can’t access!

### 1/5 — App used to work until “upgrades”

*2026-07-01, version 4.2.3*

This app used to work brilliantly for **years** until they ‘enhanced’ it. I’ve spent hours adding favorite recipes and notes with dietary modifications. The only thing that was mildly unstable was the ability to add pictures. In recent months, they added annoying pop-ups advertising subscription services. The app still worked, but was disruptive to use and suddenly core functions like adding a recipe from a url became unreliable. Today, I opened the app only to find I had been logged out and the app no longer recognizes my username or password. The ‘forgot password’ function is broken. Even the ability to create a new account with a username and password is broken! All my recipes are lost—despite the app’s central premise…no more lost recipes. They took a brilliant app and completely ruined it.

### 1/5 — No free version- just a free trial then a subscription-

*2026-06-30, version 4.2.3*

Should say that up front!

### 1/5 — New update is terrible.

*2026-06-28, version 4.2.3*

I loved this app. It was great. Used it all the time for all of my recipes. Today I went to use it and found that I now needed a subscription for 60 a year. I tried to “log in” to see if my recipes are still there but it keeps crashing and bringing me back to the log in page. Very disappointing!

### 1/5 — Wiped Out All My Recipes

*2026-06-28, version 4.2.3*

Tried to access the app that I’ve been using for years today but was forced to log in and sign up for a subscription I’m not interested in. Jumped through the hoops and logged in only to find out all of my previously stored recipes are now gone. Many of these were family recipe’s.

### 1/5 — Lost Recipes w/ Latest Update

*2026-06-27, version 4.2.3*

This was a great app until the most recent update. As soon as I updated, it prompted me to create an account, otherwise I wasn’t able access my recipes which I’ve been gathering over the past six years. Once I created an account, I was offered a free 7 days trial and then was notified that I would now be charged $69.99/year to use the app. I started the trial so I could access my recipes, but every single one of them was gone. I tried logging out of my newly created account, but I wasn’t able to access the recipe page without entering some sort of log in info. I opened a ticket with the developer the same day requesting help, but they haven’t gotten back to me. When I click the “view my ticket” icon on the automated email that was sent to me, it takes me to a web page that says “url not found”. Someone please help me get my recipes back!!

### 2/5 — Duplicates, triplets, and more

*2026-06-23, version 4.2.3*

When I first downloaded this app, I loved how I could save recipes with a click. Now, it’s very annoying to see the exact same recipe over and over again along with the identical picture. I realize the submissions may be from different contributors, but why publish the same recipe into infinity? I am considering deleting this app because of the precious space it uses.

### 3/5 — Keeping a recipe open

*2026-06-19, version 4.2.2*

When you are using recipebox on your phone and happen to move to another app for whatever purpose- when you return the recipebox has to entirely reload and your recipe is gone and you have to search for it all over again. Just ridiculous

### 1/5 — Walmart ad pops up

*2026-06-11, version 4.2.2*

Every time I touch the my recipes tab, a walmart ad.

### 1/5 — No longer great

*2026-06-11, version 4.2.2*

I loved this app prior to the latest “big” update, but now when I try to save a recipe the app no longer saves a picture of the recipe and the instructions in the app. It now only saves a link back to the original recipe and I have to edit it and add a name for the recipe so I at least know what it is. What a pain! I’ll give it some time to see if an update fixes this otherwise I will migrate all my recipes to another app.

### 1/5 — Used to be great

*2026-06-11, version 4.2.2*

Stop with the walmart ad

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Was good

*2026-08-16, version 4.2.5*

I loved this app for years and now all of a sudden you have to pay to say a recipe? What a bunch of bologna

### 1/5 — Dishonest Developer

*2026-07-26, version 4.2.4*

The app appears free, but after adding a limited number of recipes it blocks further use behind a trial. This limitation wasn’t clear to me before downloading.

### 1/5 — False advertising

*2026-07-17, version 4.2.3*

Was working so well, then they changed to a paid subscription. Can’t add your own recipes or even download/import as often. Might as well delete it now.

### 1/5 — Monetization ruined this app

*2026-07-16, version 4.2.3*

This used to be one of my favorite apps. I really just used the URL import feature to keep track of some of my favorite recipes versus bookmarking them in Safari. Recently the developers introduced an update to make you pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee to use it. I would have paid $20 one time to keep my recipes organized in this app, but $60/year is insane. Bye!

### 1/5 — All my recipes have been deleted!

*2026-07-16, version 4.2.3*

Suddenly I don’t have access to recipes I’ve been making for years! Everything I’ve ever saved to my account has disappeared. Oddly enough, this seems to have happened at the same exact time that the app tried to force me to purchase the paid version. I will not be extorted, so I guess I’ll just never be making any of the recipes I saved in this app again. Going to look into legal opinions, though, because years of my data should not have been deleted without my consent. The people who run this app are pure scum and will get what’s coming to them if my recipes are not restored immediately!

### 1/5 — Paywalled my recipes without warning.

*2026-07-12, version 4.2.3*

Do not use this app. It was free for years and suddenly paywalled itself. All of my recipes that I have entered, created, etc. are now gone.

I am livid.

### 1/5 — Disappointed

*2026-07-11, version 4.2.3*

No longer free, all prior recipes were lost

### 1/5 — TRASH APP NOW

*2026-07-07, version 4.2.3*

This app lost ALL of my recipes that I had saved. Now I can’t see any of them because you have to create a subscription & pay just to log in. Are you kidding me?! That’s how you went from the best app to the worst app ever.

### 1/5 — At least let me pay to remove ads

*2026-07-07, version 4.2.3*

Constant ads, constant, pop-ups, full page hostage screens that prevent you from getting to your recipe. I already paid for this app and now it’s full of ads.

### 1/5 — Locked out

*2026-07-04, version 4.2.3*

What’s up? I’ve been saving recipes in this app for years - for free, and all of a sudden I can’t access my recipes. There was no warning that the app was moving to paid version only! I don’t even remember which email or password I originally used, because I’ve been using this for so long.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best app for saving recipes!

*2026-06-07, version 4.2.2*

I have tried several apps for managing my recipes and this is by far the best. I have a combinations my personal recipes that I have entered along with recipes found online. It is easy to import recipes I have found online. And once recipes are in RecipeBox it’s easy to categorize and search. It’s also easy to send recipes to friend via text when they ask for it. I really hope more people use this app and it stays around forever!

### 5/5 — Recipes

*2026-03-21, version 4.2.0*

I wanted this app to be able to scan recipes and to get a special update for iPhone with Liquid Glass

### 5/5 — No more lost recipes!

*2026-03-09, version 4.2.0*

Saving recipes used to be CHAOS 😅 now I just share them to RecipeBox and they’re all in one place.

### 5/5 — Great App ….

*2026-01-23, version 4.1.0*

Great customer service. For me an app is only as good as its customer service. I wrote about a concern I had. It was very promptly addressed.
The app is very good. Well organized. I use it 2 or 3 times a week. I like very much how you can upload your own recipes and pictures,

### 5/5 — Love this app

*2026-01-18, version 4.1.0*

I have been using Recipe Box for about a year and a half it’s a great app and so quick and easy to use, I highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Back to being a favorite app (WAS: Latest update is poor)

*2025-11-22, version 4.0.6*

11/25…Just got better again. Now, it’s capable of pulling and beautifully parsing recipes from sites that, previously, were a no-go. Best recipe app anywhere.

Many issues seem to have been addressed. Edits are easy and easy to save. The “just show me the recipe” button allows you to see the recipe just as it would appear in Recipe Box and cuts through the fluff and other bloat. Love that. Many thanks. Former critique w/1 star (no longer valid)…

OLD.OLD.OLD…RecipeBox went from my favorite app to almost useless with this latest version. When will I learn not to update apps that work perfectly. The ‘my recipes’ page view has shrunk each photo down to a thumbnail by offering a ‘add to list’ option button to each photo on that page view. Poor choice. How about a button on the top margine that, globally, lets the user select several at once? Like every email app out there. Editing a recipe used to be a breeze, now, it’s harder than ever. And once you’ve made changes, the edit save button disappears. Even ‘cancel edit button’ is a fail. One has to close the app to cancel a recipe edit. The Discovery recipe search, once more powerful than any search engine results, has been modified poorly. The resulting search page recipe photos have been shrunk to thumbnails thanks to a ‘save recipe’ button being imbedded into each photo on the page. Who saves a recipe after just glancing at a photo? It used to be that you clicked on a recipe, look it over, and there at the top of the page was the save recipe button. That made too much sense. Are app developers getting paid by the change these days? I bragged about this app for years to any friends who had an interest in cooking. Now, regrettably, I may have to move on.

### 5/5 — The hidden benefit of recipe box

*2025-11-19, version 4.0.6*

Yes, this is a convenient place to keep your recipes, but one of the best things about it is that you can look recipes up online and it has a button that lets you skip directly to the instructions. No stories of growing up in the backwoods, no descriptions of the smells in grandma’s kitchen. Just 2000,000 recipes at the touch of a button.

### 5/5 — My only cookbook

*2025-10-30, version 4.0.5*

I want to start off saying I love this app. It’s exactly what I want and I’ve been using it for years now. Get it you won’t regret it.

Second I want to ask the developers about two things. Why does it have problems sometimes importing recipes? Also I would love to be able to scan a cookbook page to import a recipe.

### 5/5 — Great organizer for recipes

*2025-09-05, version 4.0.3*

I really like this app, I’ve been able to organize my recipes and add favorite old ones. It imports like a dream and is easy to use. I wish there was a way to sort by date, as in “most recent”, as that would make it even more perfect!

### 5/5 — love!

*2025-06-01, version 3.3.1*

i love this app. only one on the market that does everything you’ll need.
saves recipes from every app or website, auto creates an ingredient list and even has an option you can add those ingredients to a separate grocery list. wouldn’t survive meal prep days without this!!
