My phone stays in the box every night from 8PM till 6AM fairly religiously and the app currently shows 2 days of usage in the last week. ### 3/5 — Screen time *2025-03-16, version 0.2.14* App is so so, very glitchy and at times inaccurately recording time away. Got it free through church. Has curtailed screen time.Recorded time away as 30ish minutes recently when clearly it was an 1.5 hours. Honestly it’s silly to spend money on a fancy box to reduce screen time when flipping phone over works just as well. ### 3/5 — Killed battery *2025-02-26* The concept is great. Unfortunately I lost 50% of my battery in 4 hours of installing. When I pulled up Battery in iPhone settings, it says Aro consumed 30% of the battery. ### 3/5 — Inaccurate tracking of data *2025-01-07* I really wanted this to work, and tried it for a few months, before deciding to cancel it. Too many mornings I have woken up and it says I logged something like, “15 mins” instead of an entire night. I never purchased the $200 box. It seemed a ridiculously high price to pay. Instead I bought a cheap wooden box, drilled a hole, and that was all. ### 2/5 — Customer service *2024-08-22* I ordered my aro box over a week ago and immediately wanted to use the app. I got an email saying I could use it as soon as I signed up! Since I already paid for the monthly subscription, new charging cables for box & shipping I assumed I could use the app. Everytime I try to log in it prompts me to buy a subscription. I emailed aro for support , wanting to log-on but unsure how to without buying a new subscription. No response. Emailed them again. No response. A throes time. No response. I’m so grateful I didn’t buy the year subscription! If I don’t hear back soon I’ll cancel in their 30-day window. Please check your email for instructions to access your Aro account. ### 2/5 — Absolutely love the Aro Box, App is meh *2024-02-25* My husband and I are absolutely loving the Aro box, but I’m sadly not super impressed with the app. Wish I could have just purchased the box and not had to pay the $180 for a year that I’m not going to use the app. Regardless, our physical screen time has dropped significant (although now my iPhone says my screen time is up 50% because it counts Aro app sessions as screen time 🤦🏻‍♀️) Great concept, but for the price wasn’t hoping for something more. I am concerned with the requirement of always on and location services. It does not make sense why a Bluetooth enabled box I paid for would need to know my daily location. I can no longer opt out of this when I open the app. **Developer response:** Thanks so much for the feedback. The recent change that required location services be always enabled was intended to improve the connection between the Aro box and your phone, but we understand the concern regarding privacy. Logged in and every time I log off time and pick my phone back up I get stuck on a page that is for tagging your time. It won’t let me choose anything and has no option to go anywhere from there so I have to close the app. When I reopen it’s like I’m a brand new user again (but logged in). No articles on the site help and there is not a way to get in touch with anyone. I’m really frustrated. ### 1/5 — Concept is great *2025-12-04, version 0.2.23* I love the concept but the app sucks. It never logs my sessions, even when I see the orange screen, start a session, and then leave my phone face down. When I return, there is always some reason the session did not start and/or log. It’s too much of a headache when I can just leave my phone and get the same benefits without the analysis. Wanted to love this but just going to delete the app. ### 1/5 — App freezes *2025-10-05* I really liked this app but it’s almost unusable in current form. Every time a session ends the app freezes and will not continue. It’s a huge pain. I was really hoping for an app that has a Widget that would at a quick glance curtail my time spent. It’s not smart as a service to not have that immediate convenience in this context. This app does NOT have any widget that you can place one your Home Screen. Imagine you have your social media app icons and next to it is a widget saying you spent 5 hours todays on a screen. Having that juxtaposition is powerful and would create the space between distractions that the app is trying to accomplish. PLEASE create a Home Screen widget for your app that shows me daily time spent. I think a lot of people would benefit. ### 1/5 — Charged $100 & won’t refund *2024-12-07, version 0.2.12* Yeah don’t download this app. I downloaded it and did the monthly plan. Next thing you know I got charged $100?!!? So I immediately emailed them and they said they don’t do refunds??? Um what?????? Please don’t risk it. But it requires your phone to do that. Kind of counter intuitive. Also, it uses a TON of battery on my iPhone. For something that should just be a background app this one is very counterintuitive. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Thank you for the recent changes!! *2025-11-19* I had previously downloaded this app because it sounded exactly like what I was looking for- an app that counts your off screen time rather than on screen time! Very hard to find for some reason but far more motivating, in my opinion. But I was very disappointed to discover I couldn’t use the app without a box or a group? Well, those things weren’t an option for me so I deleted the app. Then I received an email saying that the app was now accessible for free so I redownloaded it and I am so so happy! This app is great and exactly what I was looking for!
