### 3/5 — Can’t use the WiFi streaming

Hi, I just purchased the full app and wifi but I cannot connect to the IP address. I am using the latest iOS 18.5 with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

For start: is your iPhone and PC **on the same Wi-Fi network** and none of the two devices use VPN? The Wi-Fi streaming does not work over the Internet, it works just on the local Wi-Fi network. When you switch to the Wi-Fi mode and press the red toggle button, your iPhone should be "visible" on your local network, so you should be able to enter the IP address of your iPhone into the web browser running on your computer (which should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone).

never updated my apps, had this for ages and only updated recently. before i could record for free! now the basic functionality of this app is locked behind a paywall, that’ll teach me to not update apps again. 
ik you gotta make bread but don’t lock the label of the tin behind a paywall
besides that it was decent app, i liked it. now i don’t

The app has always been a paid app (since the very first version) — the latest update (or the previous updates) did not change anything in this regard. The app was never ever supposed to let you record for free — except the initial 3 recordings, after which the app asks you for a one-time payment. I sincerely do not understand how this could happen (perhaps a bug in the app?).

### 3/5 — It crashed my phone

Warning! This app is really great and probably the best of its kind. But while I was trying to watch the preview of a video it crashed my whole phone (IPhone 14 pro on iOS 17.5.1). It took me 15 minutes to regain entire control of my phone… and when I tried again it crashed again, exactly the same way. Very sad for an app I was considering buying, hope it’ll be fixed soon!

yeah as you can probably tell by the region of my review, i am russian, and that means i cant buy the full version, heard apple sort of allowed off-site purchases but they still take a cut of that, if you could do that i would definitely think of buying the full version

Always struggled finding a good workflow to do something useful with output of app. It would be great if I could view what I record on Vision Pro or Meta Quest headsets with dedicated viewer.

### 5/5 — Really Awesome app but restore purchase is broken

I have three vids I recorded in August 2022 that playback in full color. It was great to mess around with animated point clouds this way. I recently reinstalled the app (May 2023) to use it again and I used to be able to record LiDAR but now the app won’t allow it.

The responsiveness and generosity of the app maker have been stellar.  $5 is cheaper than a coffee at Starbucks.  Although I had already purchased I think this app is worth buying for diy volumetric capture, especially if the developer keeps improving the app and hopefully introduces machine learning to fill in the gaps.

 Instead of jpg?
Can you add this feature in the future release?

As the title say, purchased the full app and I cant access all the features

### 1/5 — Broke my phone

When I opened the app it shut my phone down and whenever it came back on it would shut down again and not stop, I would have payed a WHOLE lot of money if I couldn’t get back but I had to press a button VERY quick and it stopped. Do not get this. If I had an older version of a phone and it DIDNT have that exact button my phone would have broken and there would have been no way to fix it.

If your phone really did shut down after opening the app, then I would recommend to contact Apple Support, because it seems there is something wrong with your phone. P.S. May I ask which button do you refer to? Is it the physical Home button? If it is, then it means your iPhone is too old and not supported. Record3D requires the selfie FaceID camera to run — does your iPhone have a FaceID camera?

You wrote you have a new iPhone with "a button" — that would suggest you have an iPhone SE. If that is true, then your iPhone is unsupported, because it does not have FaceID.

There is no normal demo. He pressed record several times and did not understand where he was saving it. Then he asks for payment, and if you delete the test ones, then he does not give it for nothing. Give me the opportunity to try for free, because of the bad interface you ruined my attempts

**Developer response:** Hello, how do you suggest that I change the actual existing free mode? What fo you mean by "normal demo"? When you now open Record3D, there is a pop-up screen that tells you you have 3 free videos to take. Once you take your 3 videos, you can export them into several formats and test if Record3D provides what you want or not. 

How do you suggest I make this clearer, so that people will understand better? Thanks.

It’s meh for what it does, although when I tried displaying a video, it showed a strange grey square instead of the video, and lagged my entire phone to the point where I had to completely forcefully restart it.

If you saw a gray square, then it means the video is zoomed-in. In that case, please try to double-tap anywhere on the screen to reset the zoom/scale/translation settings.

This app is meant primarily for developers and artists who use the app's ability to export 3D videos into various formats. If you have a specific use-case in mind, feel free to drop me an email and I will tell you if Record3D is a good app for your purposes.

### 2/5 — Parts of it work, but the parts I need do not.

I'll echo what's already been written about the non-intuitive interface and the swipe system to export that can delete your captures accidentally.

But the kicker is the lack of ANY usable geometry output. I'm a 3D graphics professional by trade. I attempted to import all of this app's export formats using 3DS Max, Houdini, Modo, Marmoset, and sketchfab.

But my only success was getting the Alembic file to open in Max, where I got an OUTLINE OF THE ALEMBIC LOGO... and nothing else.

Maybe the .R3D format would work, but NOTHING I've found opens/converts R3D files of the size this app puts out, and Realsoft 3D is so outdated that the latest version was written for Windows 7!

The author says he doesn't know how to save out animated meshes. Well how about a numbered series of .OBJ files with similarly numbered textures? I could write a script to load those up in a few minutes.

**Developer response:** Hello, I don't think what you wrote is entirely true – I think there is a confusion, which I want to help clear. You said you tried to import multiple export formats into e.g. Houdini but (apart from Alembic) none worked? This is weird. I can easily import e.g. sequence of PLY point clouds into Houdini. Also, Record3D definitely *can* export a sequence of textured animated meshes — just export into "Sequence of glTF meshes" and import the "animation.gltf" file into Blender. Moreover, version 1.7 of Record3D is going to have new FBX mesh and PLY mesh export options — I am sure you will be able to open FBX in all the 3D software you use.

You mentioned that you couldn't upload videos to Sketchfab — there is one specific export format dedicated just and only for Sketchfab (it's called "Sketchfab (zipped glTF)"); please try to use this format — I've tested that the upload works and even the Sketchfab CEO was able to upload Record3D videos on Sketchfab.

As for accidental deleting of videos: you don't need to swipe to export — instead, you can simply hold your finger over a 3D video and the option menu will appear (just like in Apple's native iOS apps). Also, it is not true that you could accidentally remove your scan *just* by swiping over it. Record3D asks you if you really want to remove given video and you must explicitly select which specific format you wish to remove. So you need 1 swipe and 2 taps to delete a file.

The r3d file format is a custom file format specific to Record3D, which I created (hence its name "Shareable/Internal (.r3d)"), so it cannot be opened in any other apps. The r3d files format is primarily meant to backup your 3D videos and later import then into Record3D, as is explained in the "How to?" section in Settings.

This app is awesome. I love the fact that the developer gives you 3 demo videos before purchasing. I was sold on the very first one.

To the developer, could you add that when you are recording, instead of seeing a color depth map, could you add the option to overlay what the main camera is seeing? Just so when I film people don’t look at me strange. I know this app is 4 years old but it could be even more awesome to have that.

Works flawlessly, no crashs, and quite an original tool !
I would love to see some add ons  on the premium version to recreate hidden spots when recording with lidar (AI or maybe the ability to use multiple iphones in pairs). Other than that, it’s perfect !
