## What is Rectoly for Mendeley?

Rectoly is the research-focused PDF reader built for Mendeley users. Your library stays in Mendeley — Rectoly makes reading and annotating on iPhone and iPad a genuine pleasure.

READING MODE — NEW IN 2.0
Academic papers are usually typeset in two columns, which makes them hard to read on a phone or in a narrow split view. Reading Mode reflows the paper into a single, clean text column — without losing the original PDF. Jump back to the exact page anytime.

ANNOTATE IN READING MODE
Unlike other readers, Rectoly lets you highlight, underline, add sticky notes, and write with Apple Pencil — all while staying in Reading Mode. Your handwriting even scales with the text size.

MENDELEY SYNC
Sign in with your Mendeley account and read your library directly on iPhone and iPad. Highlights and text notes are saved into the PDF and written back to Mendeley, so your annotations stay part of your existing research workflow — and remain available outside Rectoly.

WORKBENCH (iPad)
Pin Figure 1 beside the text and keep reading — no more scrolling back and forth between a figure and the paragraph that cites it. You can also split the reader: Reading Mode on one side, the original page on the other.

SOFT DARK
A paper-friendly dark mode that dims the page itself, not just the interface. Easy on the eyes for late-night reading.

A LIBRARY THAT STAYS OUT OF YOUR WAY
- Smart views: unread, downloaded, recently opened, favorites
- PDFs download only when you open them, saving storage
- Downloaded papers work fully offline — flights, commutes, conferences, field work
- Search across your papers

APPLE PENCIL, PRESERVED
Handwritten notes are backed up with iCloud, kept with a version history you can restore, and exportable as JSON for long-term preservation. Your research is never locked inside Rectoly.

14-DAY FREE TRIAL → ONE-TIME PURCHASE
Try every Pro feature free for 14 days. Unlock with a single one-time payment — no subscription, no recurring charges, no lock-in.

Rectoly is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Mendeley Ltd. or Elsevier. A Mendeley account is required to use this app.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.2.0 — 2026-09-05

This update includes an important fix for handwriting sync.

• Important fix: handwriting cloud sync could fail to recognize its own sync files, so ink did not appear on other devices and sync files kept piling up.
• Reading Mode and the 2-screen split are now part of the 14-day free trial and Rectoly Pro (one-time purchase). If you started your trial before this update, both stay free for you.

### 2.1.1 — 2026-09-03

- You can now import PDFs directly from other apps (e.g. Safari downloads or the Files app) via "Open in"
- Reading Mode: footnotes no longer interrupt the body text — they are now collected at the end as endnotes
- Fixed an unnatural gap in paragraphs that continue across a page break
- Improved detection of headings, table of contents, and figures/tables in Japanese papers
- Fixed sharing (e.g. diagnostics data) sometimes failing on the first attempt

### 2.1.0 — 2026-09-03

This update improves data export and fixes a visual glitch.

• Data export: the paper picker now shows only papers that have something to export.
• Fixed the count bubble on a stacked sticky-note badge being clipped after opening its menu.

### 2.0.2 — 2026-09-02

• Fixed an issue where sticky note badges in Reading Mode couldn't be tapped.
• Corrected the description of the handwriting sync setting — the text shown when the setting was off didn't match the actual behavior.
• Reworded the Watch Folder notes to be easier to understand.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-09-01

This update focuses on stability and performance.

• Big-library performance: launch, sync, and scrolling stay smooth even with thousands of papers. Fixed freezes and crashes on the library screen.
• Reading Mode: papers with lots of ink and annotations now open quickly and scroll smoothly.
• Lighter sticky-note and figure-link overlays for smoother page navigation.
