As with most people, I suspect, my concentration span has diminished significantly over the past few years. I’m finding it more and more difficult to focus and then make the time to read my Bible. With a very simple interface, and a few simple prompts to get you started, you, like me, might well find yourself on the path to getting to know Jesus better by reading His Word. I may have missed this, but I would like an option to turn off the headings in the Bible passages. They drive me crazy! Okay, crazier than I am already. I didn’t know what it was, and then I opened it up and realized it was by the same people that make PrayerMate. I started using it, and it has been such a blessing in my life. It is so intuitive, and it even capitalizes on that scrolling motion that I want to do when I am bored. Only instead of scrolling X, now I am scrolling God’s word. Waiting for a bus, waiting at an appointment, commuting or simple having a quiet sit somewhere, this app should make it easy to make the most of those few minutes when one whips out one's phone. Unfortunately, there is no option to change the background and font colours. White on a black background can be hard work for some people and though I have tried to make it work, reading white print on a black background means that I can only use it for the minimum 2 minutes because of eye strain. I want to recommend this app but until it offers a simple black on white option I simply cannot recommend it and have, with regret, deleted it. ### 3/5 — Long loading times *2024-02-05, version 3.0.1* The app itself was a great but I’m struggling with the time it takes to actually load up a portion of scripture. It’s taking at least a minute and a half to actually load. However, it’s quite buggy when picking up where you left off under “in progress” and jumps all over the place when scrolling back up. It would also be great to be able to share that info with the putsch of a button. Other than that I am extremely pleased with the app. ### 4/5 — Really helpful to a reluctant bible reader *2022-01-19* I love this app. You tell it how much time you have - even as little as 2 or 3 minutes- and it gives you a list of options of what you can read in that time. I then read it and it even asks a couple of questions after about how you could apply that book or passage to your life. It appears to track what I have read and not re offer it to me too. (Not sure about if that is correct) my only issue is not really the apps fault - if I read something I am not really understanding, as there is not explanation tailored to the passage at the end, I am left fairly baffled. However I believe this is giving me good habits to ‘abide in Jesus’ and I have finally found a way to actually regularly read the bible. I can also then research what the passage means on line or discuss with a friend so what’s not to like!?! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Incredibly helpful, tons of potential *2026-06-10* This is one of the simpler Bible reading apps I’ve come across. Just a few versions available, and a limited set of customization options like font size and a serif/sans-serif font style toggle. But, there is so much to like about this simplicity. Select an amount of time you have available and Redeeming Time offers you a slate of books of the Bible that you could read in that time. Or, start a “Reading Plan” to read something longer by spending a few minutes every day and the app tracks your progress by chapters read. Best of all, the app tracks what you’ve already read from the Bible. If you’re wanting to read from more diverse sections of scripture, this app is just about perfect. I’ve been using it for a few months now and only have one significant complaint: When I read something longer (say one of Paul’s letters or an OT prophet), the app seems to base how far I read on whether I saw any part of a chapter. So if I read through chapter 3 and scrolled chapter 4 just into view at the bottom of my screen, the app will start me at the *bottom* of chapter 4. Then if I try to scroll back up to start reading the start of chapter 4, the previous chapters I already read get loaded and the screen jumps back to the beginning of an earlier chapter. I basically have to remember where I left off in my last reading session or I won’t get to the right spot. I’m not sure how hard this is to fix, but I would love to see this improvement made!
