## What is redLUX Guitar?

Stop memorizing shapes you don't understand. redLUX shows you why the notes sound the way they do, then helps you turn that into music.

A studio-accurate tuner, a chord and scale library, an interactive fretboard trainer, a jam station and a songwriting studio in one app. Everything a guitarist needs, without juggling five subscriptions.

SEE THE NOTES THAT MATTER

Most scale apps show a wall of identical dots. redLUX builds on the pentatonic boxes you already know (circles), then adds triangles to mark the note that gives each scale its character. The #4 that makes Lydian sound like Lydian. The b2 behind the darkness of Phrygian.

· Bridge basic patterns and modal theory, and know which note to lean on
· Shapes, not colours, so it stays readable in sunlight and for colour blind players
· Understand why a note creates tension or release

LEARN THE WHOLE NECK, NOT JUST SHAPES

· CAGED View: see one chord in five places and the single finger move that turns each shape into its extensions
· Triads Interactive: every three note shape on every string set, with voice leading that shows the shortest move between chords
· Layers Mode: put a chord on top of the scale and step through a progression, watching the chord tones move under your fingers
· Double tap any chart to open it full screen, then swipe through every voicing, inversion and string set

CHORDS, TRIADS AND VOICINGS

· A searchable library of every chord type, with inversions and slash chords
· Barre markings drawn the way real chord books do it
· Triads and arpeggios across every string set
· Chord Explorer: place notes and the app names the chord
· Save favourites into folders

SCALES, MODES AND FRETBOARD MASTERY

· Every essential scale and mode, plus exotic and world scales, in clear position boxes
· A distraction free full screen view for playing along, with a drone in your key
· Chord aware suggestions: see which scales fit the chords you are playing

WRITE SONGS, NOT JUST PROGRESSIONS

· Progression Studio: start from a proven progression across 23 genres, borrow from modal harmony, or roll a random one that works
· Reharmonize any progression brighter, darker or jazzier with one tap
· Suggest next chord when you are stuck
· Songbook with lyrics, chords above the words, transpose and smart capo
· Export a printable song sheet with the chords, scales and arpeggios you chose

JAM, IMPROVISE AND RECORD

· Build a solo sheet: the scales, positions, arpeggios, triads and voicings for your song, on one page
· Backing tracks library with folders, and recording in perfect sync over any track
· Adjustable mix, USB-C input support, and a take library to play back and share

A TUNER YOU WILL ACTUALLY USE

· Fast, accurate chromatic tuning with automatic string detection
· Needle, Bar, Strobe and Waveform displays
· Adjustable reference pitch, noise filtering, and a left handed mirror mode

PRACTISE WITH PURPOSE

· Ear training and theory quizzes that level up, with spaced repetition that remembers what you get wrong
· Daily streaks that build a habit
· A metronome with a tempo trainer, and deep dive theory essays

BUILT FOR EVERYONE

· Guitar (6, 7, 8 string), bass (4, 5 string) and ukulele, any tuning and capo
· Full left handed support
· High contrast, bigger tap targets, bold text, reduced motion, Dynamic Type and VoiceOver
· 8 languages, iPhone and iPad

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4 — 2026-09-08

This release is a stability and polish pass.

Fixed a crash in Japanese and Korean when a quiz explained how a chord is built.

The Unlock button no longer stays disabled for the rest of the session when the app is launched with no connection.

Choosing Sus4 or Sus2 in Improv now draws that triad and labels it correctly, and adding a chord no longer puts the same triad on a sheet twice.

Fret numbers on every interactive fretboard have room to breathe, so a dot on the low string can no longer cover them.

Tuner and recording messages, including microphone permission, now appear in your language.

Plus smaller refinements throughout: a faster, leaner build, and quizzes and practice games that give you more to work with.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-19

FOCUS ANY CHART

Double tap a chord or triad chart to open it full screen at extra large size, with its notes and degrees. Swipe to move through every voicing, or through every string set and inversion of a triad.

CLEARER CHARTS

Barre chords now draw the bar over the dots the way real chord books do. Fret numbers moved clear of the markers that were covering them, and the nut is solid instead of see through.

BUILD SOLO SHEETS FASTER

Chord Voicings, Arpeggios and Triads each carry the full Root, Type, Bass note and search controls, so a sheet can hold any chord and not only the ones your song already uses. Swipe an item left to take it off the sheet. Reopening a sheet to edit it now brings everything back exactly as you left it.

MORE WAYS TO WRITE

23 genres of proven progressions, modal progressions built from the mode you pick, and a random generator that only draws from progressions that actually work. Press and hold a chord card to pick it up, then drag it to reorder or upward to delete.

ON IPAD

Solo sheets can show their diagrams in two columns, and the layout carries into full screen.

FIXES

Faster launch. The interactive fretboards no longer sound a chord when touched. Note names now appear on song sheet scale and arpeggio diagrams. Fixed a layout problem in Progression Studio in French.

### 1.2 — 2026-08-04

Every mode, now free to explore.

• The first position of every mode is now free. Open Dorian, Mixolydian, Phrygian, Lydian — any of them — and see it the redLUX way: the pentatonic box you already know, with triangles marking the notes that give the mode its flavour. No unlock required.

• New Swap button in Voice Leading. Working through a progression in Triads? Swap the target chord into the main slot and keep moving — build a progression one chord at a time and star each step to your Favorites as you go. The shapes stay put on the neck; only their roles change.

• Fixed: favorite chord charts — including voice-leading pairs — now display correctly at the Large and Extra Large chart sizes, instead of squeezing the text beside them.

New to redLUX? It's the all-in-one tuner, chord & scale trainer, backing-track jam station and songwriting studio that shows you the notes that matter — so you learn faster and sound better without juggling five apps.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-23

Your fretboard just came alive.

This update turns redLUX into a hands-on way to actually understand the guitar — not just look things up.

• The CAGED system finally clicks. Slide any chord shape through all five positions up the neck and see exactly how they connect — the "aha" every player chases. Every position is free.

• Watch chords move. New interactive triads with voice leading: pick a target chord and watch each note glide to its nearest shape. There's no clearer way to see how music moves under your fingers.

• Solo with a map, not a guess. The redesigned Improv builds you a solo sheet from a key, your own chords, or a Songbook import — and shows the exact scales that fit what you're playing.

• Write like a pro. Progression Studio now builds from the full chord catalog, with lush new Bossa Nova voicings and smarter reharmonization.

Plus more realistic chord fingerings, cleaner PDF and image export, sharper scale diagrams, and a long list of fixes.
