## What is Reel?

Reel is the social movie and show-ranking app for people who actually keep track of what they watch — or always wished they did.

Instead of giving every movie a star rating you'll forget in a week, each film you rank gets compared head-to-head against ones you've already ranked, and your personal Top 10 (or Top 1,000) emerges from the choices you make. The result is a list that actually reflects your taste — because it was built from your taste, one decision at a time.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Rank every movie and TV show you've ever seen, in order.
• Add films to a watchlist so you never forget what's next.
• Follow friends and see what they're watching in real time.
• Compare your taste against anyone — see where your lists overlap and where they diverge.
• Browse leaderboards of top films among your friends, and globally.
• Jot a quick review on any title while it's fresh.
• Build streaks for consistent ranking and watching.
• Share your top films and lists straight to Instagram or anywhere else.

WHY IT'S DIFFERENT

Other apps treat film tracking like a review platform: write paragraphs, give five stars, log a date. Reel treats it like ranking — because that's actually how taste works. You don't think "this movie is a 7.4." You think "I liked it more than X but less than Y." Reel turns that instinct into a real, ordered list.

And because every film is ranked relative to your other films, your scores stay honest as your taste evolves. The 9.0 you gave at age 12 doesn't trap you forever — re-rank it once and the whole list adjusts.

If you've ever kept a spreadsheet of films, a notes-app top 10, a Letterboxd diary you abandoned, or a running mental list of "things I should watch" — Reel is the app you've been wanting.

### 5/5 — So fun

*2026-08-31*

I love this app! If you love movies, if you’re just getting into movies… download it! The only note and my one ask is please add horror to the taste profile!!

### 4/5 — Cool app

*2026-08-12*

I really enjoy this app but there is a lot that is locked when you first get it

### 1/5 — False Advertising

*2026-08-03*

Saw an ad on Instagram trying to say this is superior to Letterboxd and it most certainly isn’t. While all features may be free, you still have to invite friends and have them join to fully unlock everything. UI also doesn’t look as good as Letterboxd despite them saying the opposite. Didn’t even seen an option to read reviews from anyone other than your friends either.

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-08-03*

I love how it includes TV Shows and lets you rank everything in a scale of 1-10 instead 1 star to 5 stars. Just wish it would let you do it by choosing the rank instead of making you rank it compared to other movies. Overall great

### 5/5 — Better than the other app 100%

*2026-07-26*

This app is making logging movies feel fun and addicting, not like a chore, I prefer this and I feel my movies are rated more accurately.

### 3/5 — No tracking or recommendations

*2026-07-26*

I don't like that you can't track the tv shows, especially that some shows are super long and require tracking. I also don't like that it doesn't recommend new movies or shows based on what you like, which I think should be the point. Other than that I really like the modern interface.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2026-07-24*

Easy to use imports your Letterboxd account and lets you rate out of 10.0 so fire

### 5/5 — This is the best movie rating app I have ever used, it is by far better than letterboxd, IMDb, etc.

*2026-07-22*

The review system of judging a movie against a different movie is so good, and the entire look and feel is awesome.

### 2/5 — Nice idea: questionable implementation

*2026-07-19*

When it asked for my phone number, I should have known better. But now, to unlock some basic features it wants me to invite friends and then the features will only work if they sign up. If they sign up. That’s a real shame, as the app has a lot going for it. I just shouldn’t have to turn over contact info or push friends to sign up just to use this

### 5/5 — Better than Letterbox

*2026-07-18*

Love everything about this rating system, the only critique I would make is when you gain the ability to make your own lists, we should be able to have them ranked in the list so we can be able to make different genre movies or shows and see how they’re ranked on lists for ourselves. Other than that this app has been great and way easier to use than any other movie rating app I’ve found.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.1.2 — 2026-08-30

• Fixed: the Refine bar on Lists showed no progress after refining
  straight from an import.
• Fixed: the post-import prompt could appear on your feed a moment
after you landed there, rather than when it made sense.
• Fixed: on a shared phone, a second account never saw the Refine
  intro.

### 2.1.1 — 2026-08-25

Small fixes and improvements under the hood, including quicker notice when a
new version of Reel is available.

Thanks for using Reel!

### 2.1.0 — 2026-08-24

• Meet Refine. Your ratings decide which films you liked. Refine decides the order they sit in, by asking you to pick between two films at a time.
• Every answer settles a piece of your list, so a handful of taps moves a lot of films. Look for Refine on your Lists tab.
• Best on a big import. Ratings brought in from Letterboxd or IMDb arrive ordered by score alone. Refine turns that pile into a real ranking.

Works on movies and shows. Thanks for using Reel!

### 2.0.0 — 2026-08-22

• Meet Global. Your feed now has two sides: Friends is everyone you follow, Global is the rest of Reel.
• Global on any film. Film and show pages get the same switch, so you can read everyone's reviews and not just your friends'. Invite a friend to unlock it.

Plus a smoother reviews list on film pages. Thanks for using Reel!

### 1.2.0 — 2026-06-22

• In theaters near you — when a film is playing in theaters now, its page shows showtimes nearby.
• Never miss a reply — get notified the moment someone replies to your comment.
• Jump to friends' takes — tap the Friends score on any film to go straight to your friends' reviews.
• Free merch, the full set — invite 5 friends and claim all three: t-shirt, cap, and tote.

Plus faster search and lots of little polish. Thanks for using Reel!
