## What is RefAid?

From the makers of LifeSpots, this app is for migrants and refugees, and for volunteers and organizations that help them. It shows the location and types of aid available on a map, with information about the opening days and hours. All of the aid shown in the app is from trusted aid organizations. The aid is categorized by type including: Legal/Admin/Info; Food; Shelter; Water; particular aid for Parents and Children, Unaccompanied Children, Women and Men; Health; Education; and Toilets and Showers.

The app is currently available in Europe, the United States and Turkey. The app only shows you what is available within 100 miles (150 kilometers) of where you are. There are services from more than 5,000 trusted service providers. Some services are available in multiple languages in addition to English, including Arabic and Farsi. More languages coming soon.

Don’t worry - we are not going to give this information to anyone (not police, not asylum authorities, no one)! And we won’t tell anyone where you are. We just want to show you help closest to you on a map.

No one can use this app to find or target you!

Features include:

- A list of all aid nearby, with a description and location of the services
- A map view of aid nearby, shown by category of aid, using color coded icons
- Push notifications when there is urgent news in a particular location
- Many of the services are translated into multiple languages, including Arabic and Farsi.
- The app works offline - it lets you find services near you, and navigate to them when there is no internet.

Please note: continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

## Key features

- Map view of nearby aid by category
- Detailed service information and locations
- Offline functionality
- Push notifications for urgent news
- Multilingual support
- Privacy-focused location sharing

### 1/5 — Aids and Abets Criminals

*2019-06-20*

While the “humanitarian” premise which this app claims to be based upon seems good it also has the huge potential to be abused by criminals coming into the country illegally. I was under the impression apps that possibly can be used for criminal purposes aren’t typically allowed in the AppStore; it’s actually not that surprising Apple looks the other way though since they are of course a very left leaning company.

**Developer response:** Hello. What do you mean it crashes? The app does require that you allow it to know your location in order to show you the services which are nearest to you. But you can determine in the phone settings whether to leave this on all the time - in which case if any of the service providers want to send time sensitive information to people in your general area they an - or just when you are using the app. Perhaps you can try with the minimal - "just while you are using the app." We have tested this on all versions supported by Apple and it does indeed work, so I'm not sure where you are having the problem. Please feel free to explain it here. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Bigotry cannot be hidden.

*2019-01-08*

Those leaving bad reviews may think that their anonymity protects them against being judged for their bigotry. They should ask themselves a question. If they’re so certain that their beliefs are good and right, what reason is there to hide and be cowardly? Good people have no reason to hide behind a mask and evil cannot be disguised by one. You think you’re anonymous, but you cannot hide from yourselves even when you fool yourselves that no one else sees what you truly are. You hide because you’re aware of your own darkness and cruelty. You hate goodness and kindness in others because you envy it. You’re not incapable of it. You’ve chosen to be cold and dead and cruel. Don’t blame anyone else for that and don’t expect good people to follow just because their caring makes you uncomfortable. Grow up and live with how you choose to be or change yourself. Quit expecting the universe to stop for you.

### 5/5 — Amazing resource for helping others

*2018-12-09*

I don’t understand the extremely negative reviews posted to undermine this app because what these people are doing is amazing and incredibly helpful to individuals who are desperately in need of assistance, have in most cases lost everything even their loved ones, and faced hardships that the more fortunate individuals who are against helping migrants and even citizens within America and other countries this app is available in, which this app also resources for, such as homeless vets. For the developers keep up the selfless and incredibly kind deeds you are accomplishing with your talents and compassion

### 1/5 — It’s ok.

*2018-11-01*

How about an app to help the many, many homeless American veterans?

Response to devs response to me.

I didn’t say a thing about migrants or anger. You did. Also I’ve never asked for a or taken a handout once in my life.

Please stop assuming you know me and what my views are. 1 star for being presumptive of your reviewers.

**Developer response:** We do have an app to help the homeless and vets. It is called LifeSpots. Our goal is to help everyone who needs help to find it. Your rating obviously expresses anger at migrants and refugees, but the vast majority of people helped by this app in the United States are legal immigrants. And we all deserve help sometime. Even you.

### 5/5 — Amazing resource for those in desperate need

*2018-08-30*

This app ties together lots of information from different services that are working to help refugees in different aspects. Refugees can find where to have a hot shower, a hot meal, free legal services, English classes, groups for men and women, immigration services... and many more.

This is an incredible resource. Before this app a refugee would have had to spend hours tracking down the right service they needed - provided they even knew about it. Now they can search for what they need in seconds.

Mapping all these services is a great benefit to the people that have been marginalized in their countries. My hope is more people learn about this and spread the word!

### 1/5 — Lol no no

*2018-08-25*

I find this app not very useful.

### 5/5 — Excellent app. Providing vital help for refugees, families and children

*2018-08-25, version 3.0.1*

This app has restored my faith in humanity - these people have lost everything and when they most need help this app can easily pin point food, services and very importantly legal help...it’s such a simple brilliant idea and I hope it gets the applause and it deserves.

### 5/5 — Ignore the low ratings.

*2018-08-25*

Most of the low ratings are not genuine criticisms of the app itself – they are just hateful people expressing their disdain for people in need, i.e. refugees. Do not fall for these lies.

### 4/5 — How to add resources?

*2018-08-24*

First of all, I apologize for the ignorant people on here that don’t know the difference between refugees and immigrants. This is a good start. But as others have said, there is no way to suggest additional resources that are available. And yes, the location services should only be used when you use this app, not all the time. Keep up the good work, don’t let the haters get you down!

**Developer response:** Thanks! To add resources to the app, go to refaid.com and use the contact form on the page that says "Want to add services." But that gives me a good idea, and next week we will add info in the app so public and community services providers can get to this more quickly.

### 5/5 — Fantastic work

*2018-08-24, version 3.0.0*

Glad to see that someone has tried to ease the access to vital services by people that have escaped persecution and/or warfare for what can be a daunting and hostile unfamiliar country where often language and cultural barriers exist. Keep up the good work.
