## What is Refracto?

Refracto is a user friendly tool for homebrewers that will help you to convert your refractometer measurements during a fermentation process from °Brix to °Plato and SG. It automatically compensates the alcohol effect during fermentation of your beer.

To use Refracto simply swipe to enter your original refractometer reading (from before fermentation) and the result of a current measurement. Refracto then immediately computes the following values:

- Original gravity in °Plato and SG
- Apparent final gravity in °Plato and SG
- Apparent attenuation
- Alcohol by volume

At any time you can switch between four different modes of computation:

- Standard
- Linear formula according Petr Novotný
- Quadratic formula according Petr Novotný
- Linear formula according Sean Terrill
- Cubic formula according Sean Terrill

Please note:

- In addition to this App you will also need a Refractometer with a Brix-scale.
- The supported input range for refractometer readings is 0 to 50 °Bx.

## Key features

- Convert Brix to Plato and SG
- Alcohol compensation
- Calculate original gravity
- Calculate apparent final gravity
- Calculate apparent attenuation
- Calculate alcohol by volume
- Multiple computation modes

### 5/5 — Essential tool for any home brewers

*2023-11-11*

I absolutely love this app! Makes using my digital Refractometer throughout the brewing session up until FG reading a breeze.

### 5/5 — Works great

*2023-10-20*

Easy to use

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2022-11-17*

This app is very easy to use. My only problem with the app is it will not calculate FG below 1.000 for my wines and meads.

### 2/5 — Correction Factor - Narrow Range

*2022-04-08, version 2.0*

I like the app and think it could be a handy tool on Brew Day, but I need a Correction Factor of less than 1.0 for my Refractometer so that makes this app of no use to me unfortunately.

### 5/5 — Great little tool

*2022-04-04, version 2.0*

This great little tool has made the transition with me from home brewing to pro brewing. Doing a lot of online searching for information, it's really handy to convert the various measurement scales you run across. Now if it only had a button that would permanently eliminate the dreaded PPG from the world…perfection.

### 1/5 — This app is no good no rel to the real world

*2021-02-13*

No good has no. Good in the real world

### 5/5 — Best tool to use for beer wort and a refractometer

*2020-10-26, version 1.4.3*

Easy, quick and you can input your correction factor in the settings

### 5/5 — Accurate

*2020-04-16*

I have been using this on several batches of home brew & comparing with hydrometer readings.
It is very close to my hydrometer & use a lot less brew to get your ABV. I’m surprised at how well it has compared. I have tried other apps like this that were way off & unless.

### 4/5 — Well made and *_TINY_*

*2019-03-14*

At 569 Kbytes, this is a purpose built tool for brewers of all stripes. It also supports multiple algorithms for conversion and the scale values are persistent from one execution to the next (which is GREAT if you are tracking a fermentation). Simple to use and easy to calibrate if you have both a Hydrometer and a Refractometer to plug in the correction factor. The dual theme GUI (light and dark) is a plus as well.
Kudos

### 5/5 — Simple interface, instant information

*2019-01-05, version 1.4.2*

Great tool. Allows to use a refractometer even when alcohol is present. Does the correction automatically. Simple and effective.

## Frequently asked questions about Refracto

### What is Refracto used for?

Refracto is a utility app designed for homebrewers. It helps you convert your refractometer readings from °Brix to °Plato and Specific Gravity (SG), while also automatically compensating for the alcohol produced during fermentation.

### What information does Refracto provide?

After you input your refractometer readings, Refracto calculates your original gravity in °Plato and SG, apparent final gravity in °Plato and SG, apparent attenuation, and alcohol by volume.

### Can I use Refracto without a refractometer?

No, Refracto requires you to have a refractometer with a Brix scale to take your measurements. The app then uses these readings to perform its calculations.

### What is the input range for Refracto?

The supported input range for refractometer readings in Refracto is from 0 to 50 °Bx. Readings outside this range may not be accurately processed.

### How often is Refracto updated?

Refracto was last updated on March 20, 2024, with version 2.0.2. This indicates the app is actively maintained.

### What devices is Refracto compatible with?
