### 2/5 — Not a fully functional app

*2026-07-24, version 3.1.8*

I can’t access or set up features that are within the app, making much of the features useless.

### 3/5 — It’s ok

*2026-07-15, version 3.1.8*

My question is is this the watch dog that will shut down or not is my question if power goes to high or to low or if something is wrong

### 4/5 — Almost a 5

*2025-10-25, version 3.1.8*

Decent app but miss by making you select your system every few times you try and access it. Most people would only ever have one system, why go to a system selection when you only have one? Other than that, a pretty good app.

### 3/5 — It’s ok

*2025-06-16, version 3.1.8*

I wish you could check the watch dog from home but ones you leave camp ground it’s lost connection and I hate that wish we could monitor all times

### 4/5 — A gem of a product!

*2024-08-02, version 3.1.8*

Works great giving real time info. Would love to see a wifi option so I know if power goes out while I’m away. And a time use with graphs. Just an idea.

I work out of my camper and they charge me for my electricity…. This keeps them honest!

### 2/5 — Bereft of Featured

*2024-07-24, version 3.1.8*

This is a fairly useless app. It only shows current power usage while connected to the unit. Unless you’re connected, the app won’t display anything. There’s no history to display, nothing. It doesn’t even retain the last readings. Don’t pay extra to get a Bluetooth connected surge suppressor because it’s a waste of time.

### 2/5 — Last update is terrible

*2024-06-08, version 3.1.8*

Before the last update, this app was waaay better! My biggest complaint is it disconnects when your phone goes to sleep. It used to always be running, so you would get notifications if something was wrong. Now unless your phone is on constantly, you’re not getting any notifications. Pretty stupid and useless. It was 5 stars before the last update

### 3/5 — 50 amp power watchdog

*2024-02-26, version 3.1.7*

Has worked great for two years. No issues identified a loose wire problem on my connection on the RV last year. It’s been a great device until now. So essentially I can connect via Bluetooth, but I’m getting absolutely no data from the device in the app.

### 2/5 — App monthly cost

*2024-02-02, version 3.1.7*

Really over $3 a week fee?

I don’t think so

### 2/5 — amperage settings

*2023-11-01, version 3.1.7*

In the old app you could set an alarm if you were on on a 30A plug to 30A now it only goes down to 40A which doesn’t help when you using an adapter to go from 30A to 50A as not all campgrounds have 50A power available. I am not worried when connected to 50A as I am when connected to 30A.

### 3/5 — Newest update disconnectes

*2023-10-18, version 3.1.7*

Newest update does not keep Bluetooth connection. It takes a new scan and reconnect each time you use it. That 8 or nine seconds is annoying. I love this surge protector and have recommended it to numerous RVer’s. Please fix issue.

### 4/5 — The update

*2023-10-13, version 3.1.7*

Ok I am Glad you finally did an update of something? It wasn’t broke.
Now I would like to get this to go into landscape mode because the device I use is mounted on the wall and now it’s side ways and weird looking. It actually looked better before.

### 3/5 — Not able to set parameters

*2023-09-28, version 3.1.5*

New version of the app looks better and appears to have better bluetooth range. However, now i cannot set any alert parameters. I could vary the parameters in the old app. New app has plus and minus to set, but all are grey and will not function.

### 2/5 — Lots of room for improvement

*2023-06-05, version 2.7*

This app is very basic showing you voltage and amperage. There’s so much room for improvement that can make this app and product a real stand out. A screen that mirrors the device panel and fault alerts would take this app to the next level.

### 4/5 — Simple, Useful App

*2022-08-11, version 2.7*

A little difficult to sync with my unit, but after, it clearly gives amperage, voltage, and watt-hour usage.
My only wish is that there was a timestamp for resetting the watt-hour counter and perhaps a log for any errors or disconnects experienced by the unit.
I'd PAY for an app that shows more data amd features, like a line graph showing hourly usage rates so I can see peak watt-hour usage times...
I'm using the app partly to determine wattage requirements for solar and battery setup, and this provides a lot of answers to the otherwise guesswork questions

### 2/5 — App won’t read if out of town

*2022-05-12, version 2.7*

This was a great item. But now, if I’m not sitting inside the rv, the app doesn’t read what any of the readings are. Frustrating.

### 5/5 — Great display of volts and amps.

*2022-04-16, version 2.7*

It displays real-time data for volts and amps. This is extremely useful to me when I need to stagger large items like AC, microwave, and water heater.
I agree that the range is not very far, about 50’ and it gives a disconnect error. This disconnect error can be useful though since lights in camper are on battery.
We lost power once and got the disconnect error. The error popped up. Lights were still on in camper (on battery) but the error through app alerted us to investigate.
A 20 amp breaker in electrical pedestal tripped. The 30 amp outlet that our camper was plugged into, was fed from the 20 amp breaker. Not a big deal, we were able to use the app to stagger larger loads to keep from tripping breaker again.
Great surge protection and app!!!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Unhappy

*2025-08-30, version 3.1.8*

Device will not connect. Has only connected once in 5 camping trips.

### 1/5 — Horrible after update

*2024-04-18, version 3.1.7*

Whoever designed the latest version of this app should find another career. What is the purpose of having a lower limit for amps? Then make the limit 40 amps?! What!? What if I’m on 20 or 30 amps? How has no one thought of this? This app could be so much more useful with so little effort. All they have to do is not deliberately make it terrible. You should be able to turn off the energy use (Kwh) notification by setting it to zero or something. At least let me set it to a number higher than 999 Kwh. I can’t imagine even 1% of users care about that feature but since the upper limit is so low, it makes it a huge pain to turn on notifications for anything since every other day energy use notification is going to bug you non-stop until you go into the app and reset. Those are easy fixes (just remove the limits) and will make the product twice as useful. If you don’t you’re just lazy.

### 1/5 — No update for 3 years?!

*2023-06-07, version 2.7*

No update for 3 years makes me wonder if I should have bought this. The app is basic. It could show so much more and have alerts. It says “alerts coming soon” but if the app hasn’t been updated for 3 years how soon is soon. Probably be sending this back.

### 1/5 — Issue with QR code

*2022-04-02, version 2.7*

I have tried multiple times to scan the QR code in the brochure that came with my 50 amp and the QR code on the unit itself and it doesn’t work. So can’t get any notifications. We previously had a 30 amp unit over 2 years ago and it worked perfectly. Not happy with Hughes app or product.

### 1/5 — Surge protector

*2022-03-28, version 2.7*

Surge protector says E7 which is no ground issue. I have verified with my multimeter for that to be false. The app is a complete waste, it will not scan my QR code to register.
Save your money and buy a different surge protector.

### 1/5 — Good for ?

*2021-12-19, version 2.7*

I have the autoformer. Doing it’s job? I don’t know. If so, this is pretty much a waste of money. I thought you could check it from anywhere, not just a few feet away. The rv whisperer is by another company & more of a hassle and unneeded stress

### 1/5 — No longer works with PWD50-50AMP

*2021-08-21, version 2.7*

Will not read qr code when adding device, still takes 30 amp no problem (not a app permissions issue). EPO app reads the 50 amp QR code no problem, then helpfully says not an EPO device use this app, however this app wont read code to add device. Frustrating and now useless.

### 1/5 — Worked great for about a week.

*2020-10-14, version 2.7*

I’m living as an RV fulltimer and I bought this to help keep track of my usage. The app stopped working about a week after I bought it. There’s no troubleshooting assistance within the app, so I called the help line. Their only suggestion was to uninstall the app and download it again. That didn’t work so I still have no readings. Disappointed, hoping the app gets an update and works again.

### 1/5 — Scanner doesn’t work on app

*2020-10-04, version 2.7*

App won’t connect to device using scanner.

### 1/5 — Looks cool but does it work?

*2020-06-23, version 2.7*

How is there not an alternative way to register the device? The app QR code scanning is clearly broken with all the bad reviews. I’m also able to scan the code fine in the camera app, but it doesn’t work with this app.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Insurance

*2026-03-16, version 3.1.8*

Do not risk it

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2025-05-18, version 3.1.8*

After having other surge protectors, this one is by far the best we love it

### 5/5 — Easy to install

*2025-02-23, version 3.1.8*

I hate to admit this, but I’ve been to quite a few rv parks that charge for electricity I got this device so I can keep an eye on how much power I use

### 5/5 — Tracer light 30 amp

*2025-01-21, version 3.1.8*

Been using the unit for more than three years has been flawless 30 amp unit

### 5/5 — Happy they finally updated the app

*2024-04-25, version 3.1.7*

Happy they finally updated the app, I really like the new setup it looks great seem to work well to.

### 5/5 — A gem of a product!

*2023-10-29*

Works great giving real time info.

Would love to see a wifi option so I know if power goes out while I’m away.

### 5/5 — Peace of mind

*2023-07-23, version 2.7*

A new camper and this app helped me figure out which items I can use at the same time.

This is a must for campers!

### 5/5 — Does what it should

*2023-05-28, version 2.7*

I don’t do push notifications so I get a warning every time I open the app. Works wonderfully no issues.

### 5/5 — Two years and still running great

*2022-06-21, version 2.7*

Have had my 30A watchdog for two and a half years now. Has never let me down. Have not needed to install the back up breaker.
Very dependable and trust worthy. Currently in a park that I over. But when I pulled into the spot the watchdog turned red and gave code E7. Bad ground. So the park has been replacing the ends and trying to find the issue but can’t seem to find the error. It only is happening in my site. So for now I am taking two sites and taking power from an adjoining site.
Checked all the other 30A sites no errors. I really trust my watchdog. It’s the best.

### 5/5 — Out of limits is not range!! It’s wattage limits

*2022-06-19, version 2.7*

After seeming many reviews talking about getting a notice about being out of limits, I decided to leave a review to clarify. This is the usage limit you set in the app only! They are in settings -> set device-> “your name” .. one you have you unit selected, you can set for your energy consumption, wattage, voltage And amperage limits. If these are exceeded, then you will get an “out of limits” alert.

Hopefully with this new information, everyone will have a great experience with the app now like I have :)

Yes BT distance can be a bear, but no way around that without changing the BT units they install (which should be done given the massively adequate power available)

Much love
