Selecting a ‘Major’ or ‘Minor’ key does not mean that the correct set of syllables will be used. For example, it is possible to select both ‘Major’ and ‘Me’, but ‘Me’ is not part of a major scale. You need to manually select the correct syllables for a Major scale and for the different types of Minor scales. For example, Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti for a major scale. For minor scales, select ‘Me’ (not ‘Mi’) and perhaps also ‘Le’ and ‘Te’. This depends on the type of minor scale and also on whether the training for minor is ‘La-based’ or ‘Do-based’ (not revealed in the app). Staves are not provided. This means that you can hear the tones, but not see them in notation. There is only one instrument sound: piano. ### 4/5 — One if the best ear trainer apps out there *2022-08-25* If you know Charlie Banacos’ method for ear training this is perfect except for the fact that you can’t answer multiple notes without the octave order. But nothing that couldn’t be learned in an hour or two on YouTube. It’s not asking you to name intervals after randomly playing a single note. It establishes a key center and works within it since that’s how you encounter music in actual practice. You can tweak the exercises quite a bit. You can stay in one key for a week or have it change every exercise. You can work on hearing stacked notes or melodic lines. A lot of the ear training apps seem like they weren’t made by people who know much about music. More like programmers who read up on ear training.
