Lacks common sense. *2026-06-05, version 1.1.1* What’s the point of this app if they reject receipts all the time. Some examples: I ordered some food through a food delivery app. The food delivery app requires my name to deliver to my house. Remenon rejected the receipt because my name is mentioned in the receipt. The deliver drivers would be confused if I put NoVAT instead of my last name.. We Purchased some medicines from the pharmacy. Receipt was rejected because my name was mentioned in the patient name in the receipt. Use some common sense Remonon. ### 2/5 — Difficult *2026-04-24, version 1.0.184* Not willing to work with you or understand your situation. A lot of “hidden” rules. And they always try to scare you by saying they will report you to the authorities…. For something you didn’t even know about. Missing the human element and understanding. Oh, if you try to stand your ground or explain a bit more, they just block and punish you for a month or so. ### 3/5 — Cannot honestly give a good review. *2026-03-12, version 1.0.182* There are a lot of things missing in the app. As a single person household with very little overhead, I honestly don’t see the value. I’ve had one month without reimbursement because I “didn’t buy enough” and am close to another because month of no reimbursement as I “still don’t buy enough” maybe vat forms should be electronic and I don’t have to pay so much at the onset. Or maybe let me have more than one month on a vat form for low yield users like myself. And yes I’m buy things in cash. When I run out of cash I’m done with my purchases for the week. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a vat charge on the cash paid groceries. So yes. I personally don’t see the value for my single person household. Not at this point in time. For people with more than one person, the app probably works well, you spend more for things for your spouse and children. And you are more apt to buy things with a credit card. ### 3/5 — Are we becoming the product? *2026-01-21, version 1.0.180* Initially, and I mean when the Apple still in beta, this was interesting and I had a lot of potential and fundamentally the way it came out of beta or maybe it’s not out of bed yet I’m not really sure, but when it went for wider adoption when each Garrison started actually pushing the general public to this app it was a good app. But now? I don’t want to link my payment methods. I don’t want to link my credit card account accounts. I don’t want an Amazon business account linked, or managed by someone else. I don’t mean this to sound harsh, but I don’t care about your businesses efficiencies so that you can hire less staff. I want my privacy to be respected. I want boundaries. Honestly, in the direction that it’s moving I don’t see how this isn’t an OPSEC problem. ### 4/5 — Very convenient *2026-01-17, version 1.0.179* Great easy to use app. But cash purchases needs to be allowed. It’s a legal tender and for yall to reject a receipt due to the fact we paid cash is BS. ### 4/5 — A must-have app for Americans living in Germany with SOFA status. *2025-12-02, version 1.0.171* Easy to use app. Continues to improve. Not always the easiest to get receipts in smaller towns in Germany, in places like restaurants for example. Long skinny receipts always cause problems. Chat is helpful but can be short other times and recommend to just watch the instructional videos again. Would definitely recommend this app if you are living in Germany on a SOFA status. ### 3/5 — Overall mostly good with some issues *2025-11-23, version 1.0.170* Overall this app makes it easy to file smaller VAT claims. There are some issues when it comes to those random receipts that have a weird reminder between the tax and price. Think like how 19.555 would get rounded to 19.56 and the tax will also get rounded up. This technical issue is further exacerbated by the tech support’s inability to meaningfully help out. Once again, overall satisfied, just don’t expect any meaningful support if you have a weird receipt. Their go-to answer, and I’m sure this is what will get posted as a developer response, is have the vendor “fix the receipt” which they can’t do as this would mean manually adjusting a receipt. If vendors could do this, then they risk getting in trouble. ### 2/5 — Food stamps *2025-09-20, version 1.0.164* This app and process can be compared to that of standing in line for food stamps. It’s a part time job to fulfill the requirements and receive often less than $2 back on purchases. Remember the bulk of the money goes TO THIS ORGANIZATION. Hence your hard work is going to them. I see the whole thing as Ponzi scheme. Do you really want to pay this org rather than just pay the tax that goes back to Germany? I just don’t see the attraction. The return is not worth the time invested. ### 2/5 — It’s a scam! *2025-09-04* You’re working for this company, doing ridiculous amounts of work just to save a measly 10% while they are earning from your tax dollars. The amount of savings is not even equal to the amount of work. Sorry, it’s just not worth it. It catches all of the little crumbs you would have never gotten from small purchases. We upload EVERYTHING even if it’s .03. It all adds up and since March of 2025, we have saved over 600 euros. I was floored that we were losing this much!! Uploading receipts and get them accepted…only to turn around 4 days later and it is ALL rejected because of some glitch they can’t seem to be able to fix….EVER. E-V-E-R. We were already struggling without it in this country of super kind folks that LOVE our VAT forms (sarcasm off now) Here’s another useless tool to work against us again. ### 1/5 — They reject nearly everything *2025-12-08, version 1.0.174* Really bad execution of a good concept. They don’t tell you until after the fact all of their little nitpicking mandates. If your name is on the receipt it also has to have theirs (there goes travel tix and lodging reservations). Also a big purchase I could’ve used a vat form form if I’d known they were going to reject it because while the receipt clearly had the vat amount, it didn’t have a percentage sign typed out on it, it was rejected. This thing is a pain and super disappointing. The concept is great — helping authorized personnel shop tax-free in Germany — but the way it’s managed is beyond frustrating. Something very small on my receipt was blown out of the proportions. The supervisor’s tone was threatening instead of helpful, and they completely overreacted to a simple situation regarding a VAT form. It turned into an unnecessary and frustrating experience over just a small refund amount. The fact it’s even legal for this app to charge such high fees for processing is ridiculous. Just shop at one store off post once or twice a month and take a vat form to them personally. They will deny it for any little reason including a wrinkle in the receipt. It's extremely frustrating how difficult it is to get individualized receipts approved. So far a very disappointing experience. ### 1/5 — Horrible *2025-05-15, version 1.0.147* Every receipt gets kicked back for a new issue that using a VAT form normally we normally wouldn’t have issues with. 250 euro max receipt is hard to do a family grocery shop. No tax information at the bottom means you have paid cash even though we definitely did not. God forbid you buy coffee off of base because it’s a rationed item. Super easy to use, very responsive customer service for the few issues I’ve had. I don’t know why this program isn’t more widely advertised because everyone who can should use it. This app is literally gets you free money you otherwise would have never seen. So stop complaining about NOVAT keeping a portion because they most definitely deserve to make a profit with this genius idea and app. It’s a true win-win. Now, if you only venture out to go off-post once every blue moon, this is not for you. But for those of us that do a significant amount of shopping and dining on the economy, this is a heaven-sent. I average a 180€ refund each month, just for scanning receipts. Key is to use it on absolutely everything. Bought a small bottle of water? Scan that receipt…it adds up. My only complaint is that I didn’t think of this idea first :-) ### 5/5 — Awesome! *2025-12-04, version 1.0.172* This app rocks. It solves one of the most complex and frustrating issues. I have lived in Germany for many years (off and on) with US forces. VAT form use is a plus, however for many purchases it doesn’t make sense to buy/use a VAT form because they cost money and the refund amount on one receipt is small. This app not only makes it possible to get a few hundred dollars in VAT refund each month, but it simplifies the process with being able to scan receipts and make a digital copy. The one thing to know is. JUST follow the rules. VAT form usage is a privilege, take it seriously and pay attention to what’s required. If you do then you will love using this App and your VAT benefit.
