An invasive alien species is any plant or animal that is not native to the province, or is outside its natural range, whose introduction causes, or is likely to cause, economic, social or environmental damage. Invasive species can spread rapidly, out-competing and predating on native species, dominating natural and managed areas, and altering biological communities. Invasive species are one of the leading threats to native wildlife and plant communities in BC; a significant percentage of our threatened or endangered species are at risk primarily due to the growing number of invasive species. The impacts of invasive species, and the cost to eradicate and control them, cost British Columbians millions of dollars every year. This Report Invasives app let you report invasive species sightings anywhere in BC, in a few quick and easy steps. Your report goes directly to a BC specialist for the reported species who will then coordinate follow-up activities with appropriate authorities when required. Would be super useful for animals like bullfrogs rather than having to comb through the map at various zooms when trying to find places to catch them. I get that isn’t the current goal of the app but it seems like a useful way for community engagement especially for edible animals. ### 1/5 — Could be great *2024-07-09, version 23.49.0* Could be an awesome thing but I like to explore in areas with no cell service and because I cannot pin a location (you can only report from your current location) I cannot report invasive. I have an offline map app where I have recorded the location of 50+ instances of invasive species and I just have to wait for an update. ### 2/5 — Please Update *2022-12-26, version 4.8.4* Need updated list of invasive species in bc, and the screen is still small as if it were meant for a smaller iPhone, makes it feel like it’s a neglected app. ### 4/5 — Ok, need improvements *2022-07-19, version 4.8.4* I have just started using this app as there are numerous invasive species in my home area. There are a number of invasive species that are not included in the lists such as Myrtle spurge (Euphorbia myrsinities) that can be located on the actual BC Invasives website. The photographs that I have so far viewed on this app are not particularly high resolution or very clear. There are no proper descriptions as one might find in a plant identification key; this would be helpful to those of us capable of using one. Thanks for the App, please do more advertising so many others will use it. ### 2/5 — Limited search ability *2021-08-27, version 4.8.3* No visual search. Can’t narrow plants by characteristics other than colour of flower. Limited usefulness. ### 3/5 — Good app *2021-07-09, version 4.8.3* Good app is limited by only being allowed to report location of user at the time of report. I am often in area without data coverage, or in a situation where I could not stop and complete a report but rather just take a picture, and would have to report after the fact. Other citizen science apps such as iNaturalist and eBird allow for location to be chosen if report is not ‘real time’ with observation. Pls consider this for app updates. ### 5/5 — Very Useful *2020-02-22, version 4.7.4* The app uses little to no data, and is overall very easy to navigate.
