## What is Rescript Sleep?

Some nightmares don't visit once. They come back — the same road, the same room, the same thing behind you — until going to sleep starts to feel like something you'd rather avoid.

Rescript Sleep is built around one established practice for exactly that: you take the nightmare that keeps returning, write a different ending for it, and rehearse the new version while you're awake. That's the whole method. It comes from Imagery Rehearsal Therapy, which the American Academy of Sleep Medicine gives its strongest recommendation for nightmare disorder.

The app's only job is making that easy enough to keep doing.

HOW IT WORKS

Log it the morning after. Three taps, about thirty seconds, designed for someone barely awake. "No nightmare" is worth logging too — that's what progress gets measured against.

Name it briefly. Speak or type for up to ninety seconds. Enough to recognise it later, deliberately not enough to relive it.

Write the ending you want. A blank page and one instruction: change it any way you wish. You are the author. That part is not a formality — it's how the method works.

Rehearse it in the afternoon. A few quiet minutes with your own story, with an optional daily reminder. Kept away from bedtime on purpose, so bed never gets paired with the nightmare.

WHAT IT WON'T DO

It won't tell you what your dreams mean. No symbols, no analysis, no interpretation. The practice doesn't need it, and interpretation is where apps like this do harm.

It won't chase you. No streaks, no badges, no bedtime notifications. Progress is measured in quieter nights, not in days opened.

It won't write your rewrite for you. Handing you an ending would be a different thing from the one that has evidence behind it.

It won't send your nightmares anywhere. Entries stay on your device and back up to your own iCloud, which we cannot read. Voice notes are transcribed on your phone and never uploaded. The app makes one network request in total, when you open Settings, and it sends nothing.

WHAT PROGRESS LOOKS LIKE

A weekly review showing how often nightmares happened, how distressing they were, and how many nights you practised. Only measures that nightmare research actually tracks. No scores, no grades, and it says plainly when a pattern isn't evidence of cause.

FREE, AND STAYING THAT WAY

No subscription, no in-app purchases, nothing locked. We looked hard at a paid tier and the honest version kept collapsing — the one feature worth charging for would have sold people a worse practice.

HONEST ABOUT THE EVIDENCE

Imagery Rehearsal Therapy has strong evidence when delivered by a clinician. Evidence for fully self-guided app versions is thinner, and we'll keep saying so.

Rescript Sleep is not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it is not a substitute for professional care or emergency support. If nightmares are severely affecting your life, please speak with a clinician — this app is designed to sit alongside that, not to replace it. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
