## What is ResponderRel8?

ResponderRel8 … aka Responder Relate … is a peer-to-peer chat app for First Responders to connect, celebrate and commiserate 24/7 with other First Responder peers anonymously (unless you choose to be known). 

First Responders are different. And no one understands the highs, lows and in-betweens of your life better than another Responder. No matter the topic, talking to a peer is often the best course, yet not everyone wants to connect with people they know … and for rural responders, there may not be many peers to connect with in the first place.

The team at iRel8repeatedly heard from Law Enforcement, Firefighter, EMS and Dispatch personnel that many First Responders would benefit from connecting with someone else who has “been there, done that” but they are struggling to find appropriate outlets that are trusted and/or confidential. 

Maybe your department doesn’t have a peer support program for First Responders or you are looking to supplement your peer support program. If so, this First Responder app is a great resource for you and your team. Some of the topics being discussed now in the app include, resilience, fitness, anxiety, depression, family life, weight loss, sleep habits, post-traumatic stress and more. 

The team at iRel8 developed the app with guidance from ResponderStrong, Warrior’s Rest, Global Medical Response and a bevy of line-level and leadership personnel from all branches. There are also more than 100 App Ambassadors in ResponderRel8 who volunteer their time to support users in the app.

ResponderRel8 (Responder Relate) is a paid app and requires an in-app subscription to access content. Additional information about the subscription is detailed below. 

App Features include: 

-Confidentially chat with other First Responders about topics that are meaningful or unique to your professions.
-Profile Options – You can choose to use your real name or an alias, add a profile picture or not,  and/or share your story or stay incognito.  Your level of anonymity in the app is up to you!
-Tiered Chat Structure – Rooms can be joined by any member, Groups are created by app users and are joined by invite only, Friends can have one-on-one conversations. 
-Zero-tolerance – abusive, pornographic, bullying and other offensive posts will not be tolerated and offending members will be immediately removed.

Information about the auto-renew nature of the subscription required for ResponderRel8 is: 

-The length of subscription is one month and will provide access to the ResponderRel8 app.
-Payment will be charged to iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase. Your purchase will show a charge for iRel8 – the app developer.
-Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
-Your iTunes Account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period and will be charged the monthly subscription price ($.99 USD in the United States or the equivalent exchange value in each respective country’s app stores) each renewal period. 
-Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to the user’s Account Settings after purchase.
-Any unused portion of a trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to the ResponderRel8 app, where applicable.

Love the idea behind the app, but the app itself needs re-worked.  The app sends no notification when a message is posted or received.  Plus, the majority of the time, I cannot even open the app due to getting the spinning wheel of death, even after doing a hard refresh on the app and my phone.  Going to try now by deleting the app and reinstalling it to see if that helps.

I tried a few times to sign up for an account. It never sent a temporary password, but it did send verification codes. I would enter the codes, and the app would tell me that my email was verified. Then when I tried to use my email to sign in after settin the account, it would tell me the email wasn’t verified. It just kept sending me in circles. Save yourself the time (and frustration — ironic for an app that is supposed to be for peer support) and just avoid this app.

App is completely broken.  Submit button doesn’t work on any of their signup forms, and even after signing up for an account three separate times, the app continues saying “Invalid Login”.

Welcome Bots – Users will receive a welcome message upon first login and when joining a new room with suggestions to interact and get started.
Conversation Threading – Now, when users reply to each other, they can have an ongoing chat with all related messages threaded under the first message.  This eliminates scrolling and enables micro-conversations.  Additionally, push notifications shown in Stream will deep-link to the specific chat.
Enhanced Push Notifications – All push notifications now deep-link to originating message in groups and friend conversations.
