### 2/5 — It keeps getting worse

*2024-08-19*

This was a great app 10-15 years ago when I bought it. Easy to use, didn’t require an account (wherein my data can be stolen) and didn’t lose my spreadsheets. This latest revision undid all that. Numbers I’d entered years ago are lost and now I can’t see how that plan worked out. Navigating is more difficult; I can’t just type in a number but have to use their goofy and uncontrollable slider. The y-axis scale changes as I enter new data. This app just keeps getting worse with every revision and it’s time I found a new one. You should, too.

### 4/5 — Welcome improvement - excellent customer service!

*2024-01-31*

After using this app and loving it for several years, the visual layout and functionality was totally redesigned last year. At that time, the app took 10 steps backward, IMO, and I gave it a one star review and began looking for another retirement app. >>> UPDATE: I also sent an email to the developer stating my complaint. To his credit, he responded quickly and communicated the reasoning behind the update AND addressed some of the issues that I had. The most recent update is a much improved version, I am updating my review to four stars. I still like the previous version (prior to the redesign) better, but for now, this is a very good app.

### 2/5 — Updated version ruined a great app

*2023-12-01*

Bummer. The old version was way better. The new version has you scrolling left and right to get to different fields to input variables - the old version had all the variables on a bar on the left where you could see them all at once, and adjust them easily without scrolling all over and up and down. Wish I had turned off auto updates and kept the old version. Maybe they will bring it back in a “classic” version.

**Developer response:** Just wanted to let you know that in our latest release we tried to address this issue. If you put your iPad in Landscape mode the fields will be back on the left where you can scroll through them all. We like it a lot better, I hope you do too!

### 3/5 — Great for planning retirement but lacking while in retirement.

*2023-11-21*

I purchased this app approximately 4 years ago and utilized it quite a bit especially in the 2 years leading up to my retirement. I’ve been retired now for 2 1/2 years and only look at it maybe once or twice a year. The problem with the app once in retirement is that it forces the distribution of your non tax deferred investments down to zero before allowing distributions from tax deferred accounts such as IRA’s or 401k’s. Nobody in retirement withdraws this way in real life. It is much more common in retirement to maintain a sum in non tax deferred accounts for emergency and/or for planned major expenses while beginning distributions from IRA’s and/or 401k’s. The app does not allow this.

### 4/5 — Decode the Details

*2022-12-05, version 1.18*

Great app but could you create a page in the help screen that will let me know how the numbers are being determined in the details page? I’m seeing several issues with the spreadsheet details that do not appear to be correct. Hope to be able to understand it better. Thanks for a really helpful app!

### 5/5 — GREAT App!!!

*2022-11-18, version 1.18*

I have been using for years and find it one of the easiest, comprehensive, and informative apps for capital sufficiency analysis. And I am a 35+ year professional in wealth management.

How can I contact the developer?

### 5/5 — Been using this for years

*2022-08-21, version 1.18*

I have tried countless apps and online versions. I have been pushing this app on numerous scenarios. Very very well done!

### 5/5 — Simple yet Powerful

*2022-02-08*

This is a very successful product as you can open it is seconds and it provides a complete picture of your retirement just as quickly. Comparing it to my current “paid for” product from Fidelity, it provides more features, charts and performance. The data is much easier to interpret!

### 5/5 — Simply Than-you.

*2022-01-09, version 1.18*

I’ve used this app for years and it has always proven itself to be a fantastically detailed and accurate planning tool and great for performing what if’s. I truly appreciate this app.

### 3/5 — Glitch

*2021-11-09, version 1.18*

Overall a great app with lots of options. My only issue is there’s no way to request support. I keep getting a “regular savings” increase every year at 69 even though all savings had long since been depleted. It would be nice to be able to reach out for help.

### 5/5 — Many features that other apps lack

*2021-07-15*

I like that you can put in market crashes at any time and also add in things like pension income, windfalls etc. Well worth the money and I use it frequently in conjunction with other apps and online tools. My advice is take the time to click all the options and check things out.

### 5/5 — Highly helpful!

*2021-06-22*

I hope you are going to continue this app! It is highly helpful being able to see how much income can be removed when you are retired, and how long and how well you can make your money last.
You can play with different scenarios, and I see nothing comparable in giving a person quick and easy ideas of how they can control there money, and when. I appreciate this app immensely!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Useless outside US

*2026-01-21, version 2.0.11*

Not relevant outside US and not made clear in description

### 1/5 — Don't waste your money

*2024-10-18, version 2.0.6*

This is worse than just a spreadsheet using basically excel calculations. No Monte Carlo, no sequence of returns, no configuration of failure modes. Huge ripoff, avoid

### 1/5 — New design

*2024-02-21, version 2.0.4*

I use to love this app and found it very useful. I wish I had not downloaded the update. The new version is terrible and not user friendly.

### 1/5 — Once was great

*2023-12-01, version 2.0.0*

Wonderful until now. The upgrade ruined it.

### 1/5 — New version is not good

*2023-11-21, version 2.0.0*

Previously this was a great app and very easy to use.

However there’s been a recent update that makes it clunky and significantly more difficult to input data.

Also prompts to “create an account” when you never needed to do this before.

Deleted the app after having had it for a couple years or so.

Sad.

### 1/5 — Update destroyed app

*2023-11-20*

App was just a tool and was useful. Latest update requires signing in and associated information with account. Data is stored in cloud which no matter what is said is a risk. Financial data should never be put in cloud that can be used in any way for analysis. As a former natwork engineer and familiar with firewalls and infrastructure keep what you can off the cloud. AI will eventually find a way to find it . Too bad they ruined the tool and updated it without my consent with no warning. That alone is a privacy violation. Give me my old tool back.. will look and see if they post this….

### 1/5 — General

*2023-05-29*

What have you done with the upgrade it’s a terrible upgrade , can’t see half of the index on the left margin and keeps going into portrait mode from landscape

### 1/5 — Pretty close to being useless

*2021-09-17*

This app is fundamentally broken.

The reason for this is the lack of ability to enter things like the rate of tax, and to specify different rates of return for different asset types.

Which renders the thing pointless, because to get anything close to a meaningful result, you have to go work a bunch of things out in a spreadsheet. And if you do that, then this app offers you nothing, as you can quite quickly build a model in Numbers or Excel in, maybe, fifteen minutes.

And most importantly, that model will be far more accurate than this app offers.

I'm guessing that the developer has gone for simplicity over accuracy, but the net result is an app that gives very misleading results.

And hence, it can be worth no more than a single star.

### 1/5 — Waste of money

*2021-02-09, version 1.18*

I found free apps that offer more options than this one. Very disappointed.

### 1/5 — Promising but developer appears to have disappeared.

*2020-09-18, version 1.18*

I really wanted to love this app but I noticed a few strange things, like the rate of investment returns seems to only affect your 401k and IRA but not stock investments... huh??? But the developer site is gone and the support address is dead as well. That does not inspire confidence.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — An Outstanding Aid to Retirement Planning

*2024-05-22*

I made a previous, positive review of this app, but now that I have had an opportunity to play more with it I owe it to the author to expand my review. This app allows you to factor in market corrections, major crashes, and changes in portfolio rates of return as one gets older. In addition, it allows the user to factor in a variety of future expenses and income streams. For the small cost this planning app is an essential tool for evaluating risk tolerance scenarios and life changes. I recommend it to everyone.

### 5/5 — New update - veery niice

*2024-01-31, version 2.0.3*

I wrote the previous review, lamenting the fact that the initial revision of this app did not show all the variables on the left-hand column the way the previous one did. That’s been updated and now I would say this is about as good as it gets. Thank you developers!

### 5/5 — Nice, Simple App

*2024-01-28*

Read some of the reviews and felt compelled to add my own. Firstly, you should ignore most of the reviews that are years old, as they include complaints that have long since been addressed. More recent complaints seem to be the app lacking the ability to address RMD’s or different retirement dates for spouses. This appears to be true, however, I would counter that this is well beyond the intended scope of this app. This is a great tool for simple “what if’s?” to assess the feasibility of various saving or spending scenarios. Simply put, it can get you in the ballpark. Expecting a $5 iPad app to calculate a comprehensive retirement plan is simply unreasonable - the real world is far too complex. If you want to have some fun and noodle around with savings levels, retirement dates and the like, have at it, you won’t be disappointed. I have been using it for years in this way. Poke around the drop down list when you select “+” and you be able to concoct some workarounds to help with your specific situation. ****Jan 2024 Update**** Late 2023 provided a clunky update that moved all input to tiles along the bottom of the screen. Another update in Jan 2024 has already addressed this, moving the inputs back to the left side of the screen where they started. Note that at some point (not sure when), RMD’s were added, but it is still not possible to designate different retirement dates for spouses. Still the best five bucks I ever spent.

### 5/5 — Now on iphone!!!

*2024-01-28, version 2.0.2*

Yay, now on my iphone not just ipad, thank you.

### 5/5 — An Outstanding Aid to Retirement Planning

### 5/5 — A Valuable and Easy to Use Tool

*2023-11-19*

Ease of use and a unique user interface make this financial planner a joy to use. Excellent use of graphical displays give one the overall picture in seconds. We only have one problem, which is determining where we enter our employer pension? Where do we enter this? (For instance Public Employees Retirement System anticipated pension?) Otherwise very highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Retirement planning

*2023-11-18*

Love the latest version. I have been using this app for several years and the new upgrades make it even better to project your retirement goals. Other retirement planning apps are tied to commercial financial companies that want you to invest in their securities. Retirement Plan is independent and not tied to any financial institutions. Great job with this version.

### 5/5 — Valuable Retirement Planning Tool

*2023-11-17*

I’ve used this app for several years as a guide for retirement planning. The new version make inputs easier, but I found both versions to be very useful. The few criticisms I read pertained mostly to RMD inputs, that RMDs are simply part of the tax rate, so that isn’t a valid criticism. Financial planners, investment advisors, and individuals should benefit from the use of this app.

### 5/5 — Love This App!

*2023-10-22*

I was really happy to see the latest update. I am always worried that Apple might make some iOS change that breaks something and I really don't want to use anything else.

My only request is if you might be able to either come up with some sort of web based application or native Mac OS app to run on my Macbook? I know I can run the iPad app on MacOS now but it still has sizing issues and artifacts. I would love a web app to be able to have the same functionality from the iPad app in the browser. I know this is not a minor undertaking and would require some sort of subscription to pay for the hosting and data storage.

Anyway, thanks again for your great application!

### 5/5 — Retirement planning done right

*2023-06-23*

This is hands down the best retirement planning tool that I’ve encountered. My wife and I have talked to several retirement planners from the four large firms and I have looked at their rudimentary tools and I can see how they simplify their tools down so they are worthless. They try to convince us to go with them and pay commissions to line their pockets and do a mediocre job of managing our wealth. They always say, what about if this happens, you can’t plan for that (in their tools you can’t) and I show them where I’ve planned for it already. I am grateful to the developer for providing this excellent tool. It requires a bit of work but it is worth it.
