## What is Retro Game Guides?

Retro Game Guides turns old-school walkthroughs into a clean, searchable, offline library built for iPhone. Import the guides you already trust, save supported online guides, or follow an included Standard Edition which is a clear, carefully researched walkthrough from start to finish.

Desktop-era guides become comfortable to read without losing the maps, tables, and carefully spaced layouts that make them useful. Retro Game Guides remembers your place, builds clickable Contents, lets you bookmark places you want to revisit, and adds search, highlights, and notes.

BUILT FOR OLD-SCHOOL WALKTHROUGHS

- Reflow hard-wrapped prose for comfortable phone reading.
- Preserve recognized maps, tables, and fixed-width layouts.
- Choose Reflow, Original, or No wrap for every guide.
- Adjust text size; choose Day or Night ops for the app in Settings.
- Keep each guide’s layout and reading position.

FIND THE RIGHT PART FAST

- Open Contents for sections built from the guide’s structure.
- Search this guide, the game’s other guides, or all games with passage context.
- Bookmark places you want to revisit, with an automatic heading and useful excerpt.
- Collect highlights, notes, and bookmarks in the Notes tab.
- Resume the reading position saved for every guide.

BRING ONE GUIDE OR A WHOLE COLLECTION

Import one or more TXT files from Files, preview a folder before import, skip duplicates, and see which items need review. Add PDFs too, such as a game's original manual: they read as their printed pages, with Contents, a page grid, and search when the PDF has text. Supported online guide pages can also be saved for personal offline reading, with formatted guides keeping their chapters, tables and images. Multiple walkthroughs, FAQs, maps, and notes stay organized under the game they belong to.

INCLUDED STANDARD EDITIONS

Twenty-three classic games currently include an original Standard Edition. Each carefully researched route states the platform and scope it supports, places consequential warnings before the closing action, and uses the same offline reader, Contents, search, and saved position as every other guide. No separate guide purchase is required.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

No account. No ads. No analytics or tracking. Your guide library, reading progress, highlights, notes, favorites, and bookmarks stay on your device. Finding new guides, loading cover art, and making or restoring a purchase use the network when needed.

FREE TO START

Keep up to three games in your library, with unlimited guides in each. A one-time in-app purchase unlocks unlimited games and larger batch imports. There is no subscription, and Standard Editions do not require a separate guide purchase.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-10-22

Reader text now follows your system text size and goes up to twice its default size, and buttons and labels throughout the app grow with it. VoiceOver and Voice Control are easier to use, and Reduce Motion fades the reader's bars instead of sliding them.

Imports are steadier: TXT guides in older Windows, Latin-1 or UTF-16 encodings import as readable text, and large folders import in small batches without failing after you open Needs Review or Skipped.

Fixes for search results, saving your place right after scrolling, the tab bar over the keyboard, and a blank page while a large guide opens.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-10-18

Import PDFs and keep them with its guides. PDFs reopen exactly where you left off, are searchable, and have TOC when the PDF has TOC.

Final Fantasy III (Final Fantasy VI) on Super NES joins the Standard Editions. Twenty-three games now include an original walkthrough, and every other edition has a corrected walkthrough that keeps your place and marks.

The "Save Online" button is now "Find Online", since it opens the browser.

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-15

Now save formatted (HTML) and plain (TXT) guides for offline reading.

Five new Standard Editions: Mega Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda (First Quest) on NES, Demon's Crest on Super NES, Metroid: Zero Mission on Game Boy Advance and Shining Force II on Genesis. Twenty-two games now include an original walkthrough.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-03

A new look for your whole library, with Guides, Search, Notes and Settings tabs. Resume your current guide in one tap, see whole game covers and reading progress, and keep favorite guides at the top.

A rebuilt reader with comfortable serif Reflow, Original and No wrap layouts, and text-size controls in the footer. Wide maps and tables keep their spacing; tap a heavily reduced block to explore it full screen with pan and zoom.

Search inside one guide, the game's other guides, or your whole library. Highlight passages, add notes, and find your highlights, notes and bookmarks together in the Notes tab.

Standard Editions gain chapter progress, clearer Contents, Find Your Place, framed warnings and boss strategies, and checklists you can tick as you play. Guide updates preserve your place and marks. GoldenEye 007 on Nintendo 64 joins the included shelf, bringing the total to seventeen original walkthroughs, with refreshed routes across the collection.

TXT imports now repair common garbled characters, decode web character codes, and remove stray GameFAQs print-page split tags. Tables, column layouts and dialogue also read more faithfully in Reflow.

Choose System, Day or Night ops in Settings, where Unlimited Library and Restore purchases now live. Start with any three games free, with unlimited guides per game; the one-time purchase unlocks unlimited games.

### 1.0.14 — 2026-09-15

Added an original Standard Edition walkthrough for Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride on Nintendo DS, covering the complete main story across three generations.

Fixed indented prose in reflowed guides appearing much smaller than the selected font size. Unsupported formatted HTML guides now show a clear message instead of being saved as incomplete text.
