Whenever you start a match, it almost always makes you come back from a 3-5 or down one game and 4-4 no matter your rank or skill ratings. I’m sure this is definitely on purpose to make the game more exciting and make it so that you have to come back but it isn’t realistic. Say your rank is top ten, and round one you’re facing a player whose rank is 100. You would think when you are first able to play the match, you’re winning, but you would be tied 4-4 and deuce or something similar. I just think the ranking system or skill ratings should play a much bigger factor than they are right now. This game is so unfair. If your opponent loses a point it doesn’t make a difference in the match. If YOU lose one it’s already match point and you’re down two sets. Instead of just making harder opponents better, the game just makes it completely unfair to you. It makes this amazingly well done game, infuriatingly hard to like. This could be arguably better than this company’s other games like retro bowl if they got off their butt and tried to update this game, instead of just focusing on retro bowl. ### 2/5 — Great concept but just pay to play *2026-06-10, version 1.0.55* The concept of hitting angles on the ball with power to dictate spots is stellar. I have retro bowl on Apple Arcade their football game which I like too. The only thing about this as you progress the price of energy inflates far beyond the money you’re making to where you’ll need to purchase energy to play at your best or you can play with no energy and then the computer ruins your shots. If this game wasn’t paywalled like so it’d be decent. If you haven’t downloaded don’t bother as soon as you get the hang of it you’ll have to pay to continue to play. ### 2/5 — Not a game to relax to *2026-05-31, version 1.0.55* Nothings more fun than playing a little retro slam tennis and just getting absolutely destroyed. Didn’t hit the ball exactly where you should have down to the millimeter? Yeah, that’s hitting the net. Thought your opponent that’s ranked 125 will be a cake walk? Nah we actually injected him with a steroid that makes him the fastest human alive. Want to play some practice rounds? No. Just no. How about easier difficulty to enjoy the game more? No but you CAN make it harder! All of the retro games are fun except for this one. But I recently found a bug: I've literally hit all the marks for my coach 2 seasons in a row, and it still says I don't qualify for that coach's reward. Very frustrating. But the gameplay itself is virtually perfect. Worked hard to become #1 in the world, and it's very rewarding to stay on top. Just wish I could get that coach's reward! But this is has a far better career mode with the relationships and lifestyle stuff. Much more immersive. People complaining the player runs to the net randomly? Sure it happens. Just play a drop volley. I always rush the net as the volleys and slices are great. Multiple time Grand Slam champion right at 23. I’m going the Alcaraz route haha. Also Hard mode is more fun. My only issue is the fact if you choose to remove ‘Fewer Sets’ the Masters also become Best of 5. Which isn’t realistic. Only Grand Slams should be BO5. Thats my only issue.
