## What is RetroLab?

RetroLab is an AUv3 vintage effects processor that blends the character of classic hardware with the flexibility of modern sound design. Inspired by gramophones, tape decks, and worn analog circuits, RetroLab lets you recreate the warmth, instability, and imperfections of vintage recording.

From subtle coloration to full sonic destruction, RetroLab is built for experimentation. Shape your sound with a collection of 18 creative modules designed to add movement, texture, and character to any source. Whether you’re adding gentle tape warmth or diving into chaotic modulation, RetroLab gives you complete control over your signal—turning clean audio into something alive, imperfect, and uniquely yours.

Modules include:

NOISE: Adds authentic analog-style noise, from subtle hiss and hum to heavy vinyl crackle, bringing realism and depth to your signal.

GLITCH: Introduces rhythmic interruptions, stutters, and digital instability for unpredictable, broken textures.

WOW & FLUTTER: Emulates the pitch instability of aging tape machines, adding movement, drift, and organic modulation.

PHASER: A classic modulation effect that adds sweeping, phase-shifted motion—from subtle shimmer to deep, swirling tones.

DISTORT (Overdrive / Distortion): From gentle saturation to aggressive distortion, add harmonic richness and grit to your sound.

TAPE TRANSPORT: Simulates the mechanical behavior of tape systems–speed changes, slow-downs, dropouts, and transport-style artifacts

CRUSHER: Degrades your signal for lo-fi digital character, from vintage sampler tones to harsh digital artifacts.

FILTER MORPH: A characterful, vintage-inspired filter that shapes and sculpts your sound with smooth, musical response. From subtle tonal balance to resonant sweeps and driven coloration, it brings the movement and warmth of classic analog circuitry into RetroLab.

AIR DELAY: A spatial delay effect that adds depth and atmosphere.

ATMOSPHERE: Generates ambient reverberating textures and tonal layers that enhance mood and create immersive sonic environments.

TAPE TRANSPORT: Simulates the mechanical behaviour of tape systems, speed changes, slow-downs, dropouts.

GATE: Shapes dynamics and rhythm by cutting or sculpting the signal, from tight control to creative gating effects.

RESONATOR: A musically-aware feedback resonator that turns any audio into a playable, evolving harmonic instrument.

CLOUDSEED: CloudSeed is a dense, modulated algorithmic reverb based on the CloudSeed engine.

### 1/5 — „Intensity“ = dry/wet is phasing, no latency compensation?

*2026-07-02*

As per the title, every preset develops into some kind of bad phaser when you just want to use a bit “less“ of the effect for example. This is the most important function in a plugin like this, seems to be a major oversight, please fix. Pretty much unusable as is right now.
EDIT: as an answer to the developer: yes, that‘s exactly what I‘m talking about? I just think the implementation is bad, it shouldn‘t phase or develop comb filtering with the dry signal when you reduce intensity/ dry-wet.

**Developer response:** You supposed to use the Intensity slider to blend from the combined effects and dry mix.

### 2/5 — „Intensity“ seems to be just dry-wet w/o latency compensation I guess

*2026-06-13*

As per the title, every preset develops into some kind of bad phaser when you just want to use a bit of“less“ of the effect for example. This is the most important function in a plugin like this, seems to be a major oversight, please fix. Pretty much unusable as is right now.

### 4/5 — Scroll issue on iPhone pro max

*2026-06-07*

Works really well on iPad but iPhone has a scrolling issue whereby the switches for each effect are not visible rendering it pretty impossible to use. When I swipe up or down they vanish. There is a point on the screen to scroll everything but this is unfortunately not clear. If this was fixed by including these in the whole effects ‘block’ it would be perfect ! Thanks!

**Developer response:** The interface is designed to collapse on small screens. However, you can turn on FULL screen mode if you wish in the Settings. Since each effect slot also scrolls itself you have to be careful where you tap to scroll. You can drag on the meters and in the global settings panel to scroll back up. Probably not the most logical but it does work once you get the hang of it.

### 4/5 — Nice and above stable FX Modules

*2026-06-05*

Hope sooo it comes a few more modules on top, Retro or not. A few modern or unique FX modules wouldn’t go amiss either.

### 5/5 — Really pleased to have this great app!

*2026-06-04*

This app has so many good qualities, I’m going to have lots of uses for this. It’s all working perfectly just as you intended. And a bargain price too!

**Developer response:** There is a new version on its way that should fix the crashing issue on iOS26.5.

### 1/5 — App crashes on my IPad Pro

*2026-06-02*

App crashes on my IPad Pro inside using it inside Camelot Pro. Bug fixes should be done before its release unless you don’t have need for to service IOS customers. As of now the app is useless to me.

**Developer response:** There is a new version on its way that should fix the crashing issue on iOS26.5.

This is an issue with iOS26.5 which was released after I released RetroLab. I can't help it if Apple release an OS which causes issues. Please test 1.07 when it goes live.

### 3/5 — The jury is still out

*2026-06-02*

After watching a demo of this plug-in on YouTube about a week ago, I was really interested in RetroLab. After the whole pricing issue with the App Store was resolved, I was optimistic. But I’m having the same problems like many others - crashes iPhone /iPad when I use AUM. I’ve never purchased an app from 4Pockets, but the developer seems to have a good rep. So, I’m giving 4Pockets the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully, the issue with AUM compatibility is resolved. Would like to experiment with the sounds others were getting! 🤞iPhone 12 Pro Max | 26.5 iOS

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work with AUM

*2026-06-01*

Not working with AUM…Thanks Sound test room

**Developer response:** There is a new version on its way that should fix the crashing issue on iOS26.5.

This is an issue with iOS26.5 which was released after I released RetroLab. It caught me out because it worked fine on all my devices even on iOS26.5. Look out for version 1.07 which should fix the issue.

### 5/5 — Great multi fx app not just for vintage fx

*2026-06-01*

Personally I love this app. It gives me a option for flexible multi fx in cpu friendly package. It does way more than just typical vintage sounding effects good for modern bread and butter fx as well. I really like the several reverb options. Thank u again for this wonderful powerful app!

### 5/5 — Works great!

*2026-06-01*

Love it! I had problems with an earlier version. Works perfectly for me now. Very cool and useful effects!

**Developer response:** Sorry for the inconvenience and rest assured I am looking into the issue which seems to only be affecting certain configurations of iOS and iPad, so I'm trying to figure out what is going on and issue a fix ASAP.
