Rex is a study companion that teaches out loud. Ask a question and hear it explained on a board you can draw on, pull apart, and keep. Most study apps hand you more text to read. Rex shows you the thing itself: a heart mid-beat, a cell you can fly into, a physics problem you can grab and change while it runs. ASK, AND ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND Type or speak a question and get a clear explanation built onto the board in front of you, not buried in a chat log. Ask about what is already on your board and Rex can see it. ONE BOARD FOR THE WHOLE CLASS Notes, PDFs, drawings, timers, recordings, graphs, checklists and web research sit side by side on one canvas. Stop switching between five apps to study one subject. 3D SCENES AND LIVE CHARTS Explore over 70 interactive charts and 20 explorable 3D scenes across biology, physics, chemistry, earth science and computing. Zoom from a whole body down to a single molecule. Change the inputs and watch what happens. RECORD THE LECTURE, GET THE NOTES Rex transcribes while you record, so your notes write themselves. LISTEN INSTEAD OF READING Any note, PDF or scanned page can be read aloud in a natural voice, each sentence highlighted as it is spoken. Photographed pages work too. SPEAK A NEW LANGUAGE Practise in twenty languages by walking through real scenes and talking with characters who answer back. STUDY TOGETHER Share a board and work on it live with classmates. Start it right from Home. Charts now open to true full screen for a better view. Read-aloud no longer cuts off long lectures partway through. Lectures now always include supporting pictures. Notes fixed so ink stays visible in dark mode. Smoother board browsing, cleaner board creation, and several bug fixes. ### 1.4 — 2026-09-15 Read books in Rex. EPUB files open in a full-screen reader with light, sepia and dark themes, font size, and a table of contents. Listen to a whole file or book. Read-aloud keeps going to the end, highlights where it's reading, and scrolls along. Scroll yourself anytime to pause following, or turn it off. Share a board with your own AI. Create an AI link so ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant can read your board, fix wording, and add notes, quizzes and flashcards. You can revoke or change the link anytime. Lecture settings now live inside the lecture. Change the length or pick topics to focus on without leaving it. Move around the board with one finger, and hold tiles to select several at once. Official Rex subject accounts now have profiles in the chart store. Bug fixes The chat player bar no longer pops up when something else is being read aloud. Large books no longer freeze the app while they open. Read-aloud no longer skips parts of long documents. The add menu now closes after you import a file. Security and reliability improvements for board sharing. ### 1.3 — 2026-09-11 Live lessons with Rex Rex now teaches as he talks. He puts notes, charts and answers on your board as he explains. Rex can highlight the exact passage he's talking about. Ask for a second explanation if the first one didn't click. Rex can see the page you have open, not just its address, so his help fits what you're reading. Smarter quizzes Quizzes can ask the same idea in more than one way. Rex keeps track of which teaching methods work best for you. Quizzes in chat are easier to take. The top is no longer cut off, and the keyboard no longer pushes the page out of reach. Drawing Double-tap anywhere on an empty board to start drawing. Drawings now stay exactly where you put them. Full-screen drawing is simpler to use. Notes and chat Selecting a word in a notepad no longer moves the notepad around. Typing in the chat is smoother and faster, and dark mode looks right. Dictation records first and transcribes once at the end, so it's more accurate. Switch AI models without leaving the app. Study reminders You now get one daily study reminder, and it can tell you about your streak. Plans Simpler plans: Pro Monthly and Pro Annual. Plus Scrolling inside a live tile no longer picks the tile up by accident. Closing a deleted widget no longer leaves a gap in split view. Many other bug fixes and performance improvements. ### 1.2 — 2026-09-07 Voice mode reliability. Fixed a bug where a pause was treated as silence and the turn never reached Rex, so roughly half of spoken questions went unanswered. Boards no longer empty themselves. Fixed the sync bug that could quietly remove items from a board after switching devices. Boards keep their class. Fixed class assignments being lost on creation and showing as Unassigned. Read aloud on Mac and iPad. Faster to start, keeps the correct sentence highlighted, and no longer goes silent partway through. Recently Deleted. Deleted boards and recordings are now recoverable for 30 days. Editing fixes. Boards no longer get stuck read only and refuse to let you drag, chart settings open with their values filled in, and drawings save correctly when you tap Done. Plus memory and stability work across large boards, 3D scenes and the browser. ### 1.1 — 2026-08-30 UI Update: Visual and layout refinements across the app for a cleaner, more consistent experience. Bug Fixes: Resolved a number of reported issues to improve reliability and performance. ## Apps similar to Rex | App | Rating | Price | Category | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [KotoVelluna](https://appshunter.io/ios/app/kotovelluna/id6803022607) | — | Free | Education | | [Scollr: Research Papers](https://appshunter.io/ios/app/scollr-research-papers/id6761957461) | — | Free | Education | | [School Planner \| DormWay](https://appshunter.io/ios/app/school-planner-dormway/id6744615044) | 3.4 (5) | Free | Education | | [ACT Prep & Practice by Magoosh](https://appshunter.io/ios/app/act-prep-and-practice-by-magoosh/id1098355787) | 4.7 (2,842) | Free | Education | | [R Discovery: Academic Research](https://appshunter.io/ios/app/r-discovery-academic-research/id1508182175) | 4.8 (910) | Free | Education | | [Flashcards Maker: Study Clever](https://appshunter.io/ios/app/flashcards-maker-study-clever/id6451101328) | 4.4 (34) | Free | Education | --- *Data collected daily from the US App Store and indexed by [AppsHunter](https://appshunter.io/).
