## What is RHVoice?

Important note: This App is not a text reader. 

This App is designed to provide text-to-speech for use by Apple's VoiceOver utility for the visually-impaired. 

However any text-reading App you have should be able to use the voices provided by RHVoice. 

The voices within the App are provided by different teams of developers, mostly visually-impaired themselves.  The developers have tended to concentrated on their own languages, or those languages which are not supported on mobile phones.  

Some of the voices are provided with the financial support from sponsors, others require a small App Store subscription.  Funds are used to pay the App's operating expenses. 

If your language is not available within RHVoice please understand the limited resources available, and the lengthy process of making new voices, and the effort needed to support new users in their own language.

Ok eSpeak has added all languages, however, more languages (including english) also have to be added to RH Voice. I know there are some voices already some voices in all other languages and ios but this is just a suggestion

edit, as of a week or 2 ago, I now have lost some respect for the devs (I know this is not the main non-ruteen dev, they make voices quicker on android and it doesn't take 2 years for that. You guys also don't know that this engine is open source. And the fact that you hate 2 star reviews and just don't care is just sad... This rating is bumped to 2 stars for that reason alone. And don't even think about saying "get another app instead if you don't like it" I know how the devs are with this, its kinda like how Mason Armstrong (I'm not calling him bre or bri or whatever) made dectalk for iOS but doesn't wanna release it because of "licencing issues"?? Its now resorted to people making their own ports of these engines...

edit2: You could have at least told us 3 years ago that other devs could ad to this. But what happens? Nothing. I'd not be surprised if we sooner or later get an vibecoded RHVoice international app because of your inconsistant selves because what kind of time, is 3 years, for one, single, lang...

**Developer response:** We ourselves made the iOS code open source.  We own the source. We welcome other devs joining in.  
Really, why don't you do something useful yourself, instead of just asking for stuff?

What exactly is it that you think we owe you?  Did we take any money from your, for example? Do you think that you are Aladdin, and we are your genie in the lamp?  We don't care about you "highly requested language".  We are not going to add Alan and SLT to the iPhone when there are already much better voices already on Apple.   Are you a developer, who knows how much work is involved? If not please uninstall this app and take your demands elsewhere.  Go and find some other developers to order about.  We would be delighted if they can find the time to add more voices.

I'm looking to get more voices for my iPhone. I live in the US. Why is a TTS engine in the US store if the native language isn't even among the available voices? I'm just saying.

Please add English voices. I understand you want to focus on other languages, and that's fine, but it shouldn't be that difficult to add the existing English voices. Giving users more choice is always a good thing. The app should work better with VoiceOver on macOS. For example, it's impossible to interact with the languages list without focus jumping to the first language, making it impossible to choose another one.

**Developer response:** "it should not be that difficult".  No, but it is time consuming, and there are only 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week.

Your app has been around for a while now you’ve had plenty of time to add this language and the only languages you have is two languages. What’s the point of this app? It’s pointless and useless and oasis space on my phone. Just saying if there’s nothing I can do to use it. I would love to have the English voices with VoiceOver but no y’all are selfish and you should be ashamed of yourselves for even developing something that everyone can’t use.

Hello, developer. Can you please add support for the English voices? I know that some users wrote a review about this. Keep up a good work, and always remember, that this app is always open source.

**Developer response:** Sorry.  The world does not really need more English voice on iOS. There are plenty already.  We have limited resources and tend to concentrate on languages which Apple does not support.

English, please. It should be quite clear this is a high request based on reviews. If English is written in updates, we could at least have the English voices, yes?

**Developer response:** We hope to publish new voices soon.  But, our priorities are to add languages which Apple does not supply so that blind users can use their iOS.   We also need to try and get some revenue.  There are many English voice available from Apple and so we will only be adding simple English voices for people using languages like Albanian who need to switch to English.

Unless you happen to be Romanian or Macedonian. When you get common languages, let us know.

**Developer response:** Albanian, nor Romanian.   These voices are provided under funding from the United Nations Development Programmer for North Macedonia.  They are the ONLY usable voices in those two languages.  We HAVE NO NEED to spend effor ton money on "COMMON" languages which are already well served by Apple.  If our App is "worthless" please consider that it is still worth every penny you spent on it.

So this app came out I think in May, and it’s now March 2024, and I still haven’t seen any English voices or any other voices for other languages. Just thought I’d bring that to your attention.
