Example 1 try the word another even in the light rhyme category it misses words like -rougher,tougher,uncover- just to name a few. In my opinion this app could be improved. I compare it with a free app and every time the free app has better recommendations. I would change my review if we start getting some improvements in the library. **Developer response:** The intelligent rhyme is the best option to find a variety of near rhymes by adjusting the similarity in sound between the search word and rhymes mates. Select a specific rhyme type if you wish to dig in deeper: Light rhymes pair accented final syllables with unaccented ones. ### 5/5 — Rhyme Genie *2021-03-22* This is the penultimate poetry/song writing/writing app. I first discovered it in 2009 or 2010 and purchased it for use on my Mac and have not been without it since. I also have it on my iPad and iPhone. Brilliant apps. The team at Idolumic are very prompt IF you’ll ever need them. ### 2/5 — Currently unstable *2021-02-15* I LOVED and used this app a lot for writing my lyrics, but since recent updates, I’m finding it unbearable. It’s very slow and clunky now... all the words (regardless of syllable) appear on one column and it takes many, many minutes of waiting before they’re finally separated into proper columns (sometimes, it doesn’t separate at all). Sometimes the words barely load at all, sometimes the app just outright crashes. Very unstable now... this used to be extremely stable and fast though!! Using a Mini 4, updated to latest, not sure if that has had an effect or influence to the app or its updates. **Developer response:** I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing performance issues with the 2015 iPad Mini 4. Generally speaking Rhyme Genie 10 is more stable than previous versions. Apple's analytics reports an average of 1 crash per 1000 sessions in the last 30 days. The temporary freezing issue that you have touched upon was an unfortunate bug of the initial release. The issue has been addressed in the latest version. Given that iOS 14 requires more processing power in general I would recommend freeing up additional storage space before re-installing the app. This will greatly improve the performance of the app on older devices. ### 5/5 — great *2020-05-18* to have this on iOS. it’s a bit fiddly and not for everyone but if you need a serious and configurable rhyme app this is easily the most comprehensive. brilliant. the thesaurus function rapidly becomes indispensable. it’s the best rhyme app on the market by a country mile. buy it and take the three minutes it takes to get to know what it can do. ### 5/5 — Wirklich nützliches Tool *2020-03-17* Ich bin begeistert und finde immer Hilfe beim Songschreiben... einfach, inspirierend, verschiedene Silbenlängen, Beispielverse... was will man mehr... ### 3/5 — App crashes *2019-11-17* Just now purchased this app and it’s crashed every time I was using it on iPad Pro. Thank you kindly. ### 2/5 — Not many rhymes *2019-10-27* It’s . . . Ok. Some cool features, like the search for first-syllable or consonant rhymes. But, ultimately, it’s sort of all for naught, because there just aren’t that many rhymes included. When I compare perfect rhymes for “go,” for example, with my printed Merriam Webster’s Rhyming Dictionary, the MW has about 5 times as many, including some really obvious ones Rhyme Genie is missing. **Developer response:** Since Rhyme Genie distinguishes between primary and secondary stress in words it offers greater accuracy than the printed version of Merriam Webster’s rhyming dictionary. If you select the Perfect Rhyme rather than Rhyme Genie's uniquely powerful Intelligent Rhyme you are missing out on this fantastic feature. The word ‘go’ is a good example. Merriam Webster's rhyming dictionary groups perfect rhymes with light rhymes (uneven rhymes). Rhyme Genie offers you greater flexibility by distinguishing between the two. The benefit becomes clear when lowering the similarity in sound of the Intelligent Rhyme by tapping on the squiggly equal sign. This expands the search results to include all of the rhymes listed in the printed version of Merriam Webster’s rhyming dictionary and allows you to find an even greater variety of additional rhymes not found in any other reference. The total number of rhyme mates for the word ‘go’ include 1853 perfect rhymes, 5343 light rhymes and thousands of near rhymes accessible via the Intelligent Rhyme. Thank you kindly. ### 3/5 — Misunderstood About Tunesmith *2019-08-11* So I bought the Rhyme Genie app not realizing that I can’t get Tunesmith along with it on my phone. Now I have the app which is just not useful to me without Tunesmith. Is there anything I can do to rectify this situation? **Developer response:** As a free companion product for the $24.95 macOS version of Rhyme Genie TuneSmith creates professional looking lyrics sheets with chord charts and makes it easy to administer large song catalogs. Thank you kindly. ### 3/5 — Confusing interface *2018-12-09* Is it me - but if I type “caught” I would expect it to list “taught” amongst the hits? **Developer response:** If the search word offers more than one pronunciation (e.g. live, tear, read etc.), a number in the far right of the search box will indicate the current selection. Clicking on the number will change the phonetic interpretation of the search word and show rhyme mates that match the new pronunciation. The word 'taught' will be shown under the second phonetic interpretation of the word 'caught'. Please note that there is also a help section in the app which can be accessed by tapping on the question mark in the lower left corner of the main screen. It covers all of the app's features and allows you to quickly familiarize yourself with the user interface. ### 5/5 — If you write poetry you'll like this *2018-07-14* The developer is awesome. Has helped me via email understand some stuff. It shows he actually cares about rhyming and music vs just an app. All I'd say is make it's usage on the iPad feel a bit more solid, like somehow similar to how the apple store looks. The card look, large highly detailed graphics and colors and fonts vs a slight old PC look. Inside the app, outside of that its cool ### 5/5 — Great product *2017-09-29* I’ve been using the Mac OS version of Rhyme Genie for years and it’s been invaluable in my creative process. Having to update it on the laptop and desktop all the time was getting tedious and then I saw there was a smartphone version! The dictionary comes with me wherever I go now: laptop, desktop, subway, whatever... it means I can keep the creative flow going wherever I am! ### 5/5 — The Ultimate Rhyming App *2017-06-06* I think this is the best rhyming app on the market. I needed to replace the old Mac app "Masterwriter" after it went to an expensive subscription model, and tried everything I could find. Rhyme Genie won the competition, but it takes time to realize all of its powers and features. I recommend reading the info on the developer's website to get familiar with the controls and settings. You can start rhyming immediately, but dig deeper! P.S. I notice that some old negative reviews for previous versions are for installation or "won't run" problems. On some older devices, some apps can be sensitive to how much memory is available when you first install. If you run into such a problem with this (or any app), try this: 1) turn Airport Mode on. 2) turn off any background programs that might be running (hold power button until the "slide to power off" shows up, then release power button and hold the 'home' button until it goes back to home screen). 3) install the app (e.g. Rhyme Genie). Speaking of ‘bells and whistles' if you own a device that supports the new ‘split view’ feature of iOS you can use the fully compatible Rhyme Genie app right next to a poetry journal app or Apple’s own ‘Pages’ app. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — A great app with great flaws *2024-08-14* Are the developers here any more? Did they take our money and run? I love this app, but there are major bugs and have been for years. If you leave the app for a while, like to answer a phone call, you might come back and lose everything you copied in your word list. Like I just did right now! If you leave the app at all, the page scrolls up to the top and you lose your place in the word list. There are many more infuriating problems with this app that aren’t coming to mind now. I love this app and hate it at the same time. Please fix it. **Developer response:** iOS is designed run as efficiently as possible: When you push an app into the background it is suspended and may be terminated to reclaim memory. Terminated apps start anew when relaunched. How quickly a background app is terminated depends on the available memory and storage space of the device. ### 1/5 — Does not work *2017-03-17* This does not work on an iPad Air running iOS 10. Unfortunately Rhyme Genie will not run on older devices since it requires more processing power and memory than an average iOS app. ### 2/5 — Weak ability to fine adequate rhymes in every situation. *2023-04-16* When looking for rhymes for “civilian” stallion and cotillion were not listed. When then I entered “cotillion” the lists were blank. Cotillion, stallion and civilian all rhyme. This situation has occurred before with certain words that I entered. I have not made a list, but when this occurred with “civilian”, I made notes in anticipation of your request for why I submitted less than average performance for your app. **Developer response:** Please reach out via email to learn how to setup the app for your particular needs.
