## What is Rhymestash?

Rhymestash is a calm, single-purpose rhyming dictionary built for songwriters, rappers, and poets who actually want to write - not be sold a subscription.

Type any common English word. Rhymestash instantly returns Perfect, Near, Slant, Assonance, and Multi-syllable rhymes pulled from a real phonetic dictionary that ships inside the app. No internet needed. No account. No ads. No "trial". Just rhymes.

WHY RHYMESTASH
- Other rhyme apps quietly call a server, paywall the results, and bury the actual words under upgrade prompts.
- Rhymestash is the opposite. It works on a plane. It works in a basement studio with no signal. It works the second you open it.

WHAT YOU GET
- Five rhyme modes side-by-side: Perfect, Near, Slant, Assonance, Multi — all five for every word in one tap. The Multi tab finds double and triple rhymes used by professional songwriters and rappers.
- Syllable count and detected poetic foot (iamb, trochee, dactyl, anapest) on every search, so you can fit a word to a line.
- A bundled, curated subset of the Carnegie Mellon University Pronouncing Dictionary (CMUdict) - about 9,400 of the most-common English words with full ARPABET pronunciations.
- Tap any result to copy it to your clipboard.
- Long-press to save a word to Favorites.
- Searchable, swipe-to-delete History.
- A clear, dark "songwriter's notebook" interface with SF Rounded type.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Rhymestash has no account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, no subscription, and no developer backend. The dictionary, the rhyme index, your history, and your favorites all live on your device and stay there. The microphone and network are never used. The PrivacyInfo manifest declares only the standard UserDefaults reason code required for local preferences.

ONE-TIME PURCHASE
Rhymestash is a single $0.99 purchase. No in-app purchases. No upsells. No daily limits. The features above are the whole product.

GREAT FOR
- Songwriters who write on the road and don't trust hotel Wi-Fi.
- Rappers and poets who want slant and assonance results, not just "perfect" matches.
- Students working on a sonnet or a sestina.
- Anyone whose other rhyming dictionary is now a sub.

CREDITS
Pronunciation data is from the Carnegie Mellon University Pronouncing Dictionary (CMUdict), released for unrestricted research and commercial use with attribution. The source project is credited in the About screen.

Open Rhymestash, type a word, and let the page fill with options.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 3.0 — 2026-07-12

Version 3.0 makes the Lyric Pad substantially safer and more accurate.

- Saved songs now use atomic, versioned on-device files with automatic backup recovery and migration from earlier releases.
- Song identity no longer depends on its title, so separate drafts with the same name remain separate.
- Autosave is smoother, save failures are shown, and the previous 200-song limit is gone.
- Assonance now uses stressed pronunciation vowels and returns deterministic results.
- Unknown line-ending words remain unclassified instead of receiving spelling-based rhyme guesses.
- Dynamic Type and line-level rhyme controls are more accessible.

No new permissions, network use, accounts, ads, analytics, or subscriptions.

### 2.0.1 — 2026-06-26

This update sharpens the interface: the iPad layout now uses a centered, comfortable reading width instead of stretching edge to edge, plus small display fixes. iPhone is unchanged.

### 2.0 — 2026-06-21

Rhymestash 2.0 — a pro upgrade for writers, still 100% offline.

• Sounds mode: find homophones, sound-alikes, consonance, and alliteration — beyond perfect rhymes.
• Rhymes in context: tap any line in the Lyric Pad to see rhymes for its end word and drop one right into the next line.
• Rhyme map: a color-coded view of which lines rhyme with which.
• Sound-alike sections in word details.

All from the bundled pronouncing dictionary — no account, no network, nothing leaves your device.

### 1.2 — 2026-06-15

Version 1.2 - Multi-Syllable Rhymes · Syllable Goal · Share · Saved Songs · Send to Pad

Multi-Syllable Rhymes (new "Multi" tab): Search any multi-syllable word and a brand-new Multi tab finds double and triple rhymes - words that share your last two (or more) stressed syllable tails. "Happy" surfaces "snappy" and "crappy." This is the feature professional rhyming tools are known for, now fully offline in Rhymestash.

Per-Line Syllable Goal: Tap the new "Set Goal" chip in the Lyric Pad stats bar to choose a syllable target (4-20) for every line. Lines that don't hit the goal are highlighted in amber so you can spot rhythm breaks at a glance. Tap "Off" to clear it anytime.

Send to Lyric Pad from Word Detail: Viewing a word from History or Favorites? Tap the new toolbar button to send it to your Lyric Pad instantly. Long-press any rhyme chip in the detail view for a context menu with Copy and Send to Lyric Pad.

Share & Export: Tap the share button in the Lyric Pad toolbar to send your lyrics anywhere via the iOS share sheet - Messages, Mail, Notes, AirDrop, or any app on your device.

Saved Songs: Name and save the current Lyric Pad as a song. Tap the folder icon to browse all your saved songs, open any one to resume editing, swipe to rename or delete. Up to 200 songs stored fully on-device.

Send to Lyric Pad from Search: Long-press any rhyme result on the Search tab for the context menu - Copy, Add to Favorites, or Send to Lyric Pad.

No new permissions, no network use, no accounts. All features work fully offline.

### 1.1 — 2026-06-14

Version 1.1 — Lyric Pad + Syllable Filter + Rhyme Scheme

Lyric Pad (new tab): a scratchpad where every line shows its syllable count live as you type. See your total syllable count at a glance. Swipe a line left to delete it.

Rhyme Scheme tagger: as you write in the Lyric Pad, the last word of each line is automatically tagged with a color-coded letter (A, B, C…). Lines that rhyme share the same letter and color — your rhyme scheme appears in real time.

Syllable filter on search results: after searching a word, filter the rhyme results by syllable count using the new chip row below the rhyme-type selector. Looking for a 2-syllable perfect rhyme? Tap "2 syl" and only those appear. The filter resets automatically when you switch words or rhyme types.

No new permissions, no network use, no accounts. All features work fully offline.
