It is better than the new Ricoh 360 app because it does not require an account or agreement of their privacy policy and terms of service, just so you can use your camera. ### 2/5 — EXIF DATA LOST *2024-05-23, version 2.25.2* The EXIF data for Make and Model gets removed when saving as a 360 image. This is highly important for me otherwise the app is essentially useless, because then I have to use computer to add it back on.. so if I will use a computer then I will edit there also.. therefore the app becomes obsolete. I noticed that images and videos dated 2019 or earlier are no longer searchable on the current Theta app from my 2020 iPhone or 2018 iPad. When I instead try to search for these photos in the iPhone Ricoh Theta album, I get the “Failed to obtain spherical image” message. (However these same 2019 and earlier images are viewable on the Theta+ app.) Another note: videos that are viewable on the Theta app via the Ricoh Theta album search are a one shot event. I cannot search for more than one album video using the Theta app, because pressing the required “Cancel” button kicks me out of the viewing Album video process altogether. (Ricoh Theta album images do not have this “no searching” problem, however) ### 2/5 — SC2 wobbly video. App still keeps deleted unavailable files. *2021-08-08, version 2.16.1* The app seems to keep the images and video from deleted files. It comes up as unavailable. But why are they there ? Also video on SC2 wobbles/shimmers quickly when using semi auto-crop rendering it unusable. Latest SC2 firmware. Would be nice to be able to view the 360 pictures from a different location, such as a compatible iPhone memory stick instead of having to keep all the 360 photos on the iPhone in definitely ### 1/5 — Cannot Connect iPhone to SC2 *2021-07-30, version 2.16.1* It worked well in the beginning. But now, after the updates, I can no longer connect SC2 to my iPhone. Will be returning the camera as I have wasted enough time. ### 2/5 — Software no longer recognizes my camera *2021-06-05, version 2.15.7* Auto software updates for my seldom used Theta camera (with no model number on it) now can’t connect my camera to my phone. My camera profile doesn’t exist on the app any more either. The newest software only supports 2 models? Why would you update software and throw your existing camera owners under the bus? Looked for customer support on the app and website, there doesn’t seem to be any. Apparently there’s no money in supporting older cameras. Cannot post 360 images and only viewable on the app. ### 1/5 — a total embarrassment to imaging!! INCOMPLETE! *2025-02-13, version 2.25.5* I cannot believe RICOH would present this incomplete app to represent their incredible 360' camera's! The app is nearly useless without a RECORDING VIDEO PREVIEW! The 360' camera, sensor, and hardware is exceptional but the app is lacking, the ridiculously small memory is lacking but improving, and the tiny battery capacity have ‘modders’ busy posting videos on how to fix several these failures. Hopefully the updates keep coming for all models, especially for those of us that spend a lot of money on these 360' cameas. The scalable and zoomable 360' views and perspectives are truly awesome to watch! ### 1/5 — a total embarrassment to imaging!! INCOMPLETE! *2024-07-25* I cannot believe RICOH would present this TRASH app to represent their incredible camera. The app is nearly useless without a VIDEO PREVIEW! simply unbelievable!! and after all these YEARS nobody at RICOH recognizes this app as trash, nor have they make ANY attempt to fix it!! It is simply UNBELIEVABLE that RICOH Management is not aware of, or has chosen to not addressing these errors, issues, failures, and severe dysgunction of the application. I can connect to the Theta Wi-Fi but it doesn’t communicate with my camera anymore. This is a big problem since I use this camera for 3D Tours. I may have to go to another brand… this is the 3rd issue I’ve had with Theta 360 connection. ### 1/5 — Not stable, not working. *2022-06-21, version 2.19.0* Not stable. Connection between camera and mobile can’t be established. The whole process is way too complicated. Original post. I don’t know if the cam is bad, the app flakey or a combination of both. Connects to android phone, but won’t stay connected, takes multiple tries to transfer images. Turn ping off all WiFi sources in the house helps, but really? Won’t stay connected to iPad ( latest iOS), connects until I activate the theta app and try to register, then it disconnects and says no network. Someone really needs to address this problem ( yes the privacy slider is green) still not able to use apple products. I will continue to try, but if my wife finds the receipt, it goes back, bundled garbage and all, and GoPro gets a try. ### 1/5 — Won’t connect to phone *2021-08-12, version 2.16.1* Camera will not connect to camera via WiFi. Tried multiple times and deleted and reinstalled app. Online support does not help. Although the user is presented with “end of life” notifications, this app continues to work well with my Theta V camera and is fully-featured with wifi and bluetooth image capture and sync on ios26. After looking at the tragic state of their newer Ricoh360 app, and its lack of support for older models as well as lack of features, this app remains the preferred tool. ### 5/5 — The gold standard in camera companion software *2025-06-14, version 2.25.5* This app has been the absolute gold standard in camera driver app since it first came out. Other manufacturers apps often looks like marketing website with a bit of camera functionality bolted on as an afterthought. This app is such a wonderful contrast: camera functionality is front and centre. Professional controls. Clear layout. Support for every Ricoh Theta ever made. Frequent updates. No advertising, gamification, blogs, in app marketing videos, or any nonsense of any kind. Thank you Ricoh.
