I’m happy to support a company that’s so proactive and innovative, thus switched my subscription from monthly to annual 2 years ago. For the first 3 years I had no issues with pickups and any questions were promptly answered but in last year several pickups have been missed - in each case they didn’t own problem, no insight to cause and found way to blame me, the customer. There is no way to talk to a human, apparently because staff are forbidden from talking with customers? First of all the featured ones are only for families. I am a senior. And the swappable categories never change. I would like to see the swappable choices expanded to include things that reoccur in my life. Things like extra bags, hand me down silverware old dishes. Having it picked up from our house? So easy. I have much less trash each week now, and it feels good to have one-time use packaging not just go to a landfill. Ridwell’s customer service is excellent. We have asked a lot of questions about what they will/won’t take, and they have patiently and quickly answered each one. I support and believe in that mission and don’t mind investing that money. But when things go wrong, and I promise you they will, their customer service sucks. When a pickup is missed, even after they have sent the boilerplate text that your stuff was picked up, you will deal with a slow response followed by the news that you are being a nuisance because their is nothing they will do. They don’t hold drivers accountable and as far as I can tell they have mythical “operations managers” who apparently do nothing. They forbid any conversation with any customer. Literally forbid it. There is no phone number where you can actually talk to a human being. I need this rectified ASAP. ### 1/5 — WTF *2026-06-11, version 3.1.0* This is the second week in a row that our pickup driver has not come by!!! ### 1/5 — Opt-in for pickup, opt-out for billing *2026-05-28, version 3.1.0* My frustration with Ridwell is that you must opt-in regularly to get the pickup you are automatically billed for, but get charged even when you don’t opt-in. Inevitably you will forget to opt in via the app, and will be charged for a service you aren’t getting. You should either not be charged for when you do not opt in, or pickups should be opt out. ### 1/5 — If you live in an apartment building, don’t bother. *2026-05-28, version 3.1.0* When first hearing about Ridwell I was so excited to participate and help divert plastic waste from landfills. For the first few months, the service was awesome and I had no problems with my pick up people even though the building I live in that requires the a call-for-entry system at the front door. Within the last 2 months however, I’ve had a repeated problem where the pick up person does not call into the building or attempt to call in for entry at all. When I check my app for a “pick up status” there’s a message that the pick up person “could not enter” and I am charged for non existent service. On top of that I have then have to store this trash I’ve collected in my own apartment to wait for the next pickup which is 2 weeks away. Bad customer service and quite a scam for a company to not render their service but, collect fees anyways. I put my materials in my bin the night before scheduled pickup. Then on pickup day, I get a text saying “Your bin was empty.” This has happened several times. I report each time and get an apology, but the problem has not been fixed. I was also inappropriately charged for “extra materials” two weeks ago and had to ask for a refund on that charge. They have consistently skipped my scheduled, pick ups while continuing to charge me for their services. When I reach out to customer service, they often claim that their driver attempted to access my building, which is simply not true. There has been no attempt made to contact me or gain entry. It seems that there is a significant lack of training for their drivers on how to properly access apartment or condo buildings, which makes their service highly unreliable to say the least. I expected better from a company that promotes itself is being committed to convenience and sustainability. It’s frustrating to pay for a service that is effectively nonexistent.
