## What is Riff?

One card, one second: you read it or you skip it. Riff is an RSS and news reader with no account, no ads and no tracking, with an AI summary on request.

Keeping up with the news shouldn’t mean opening twenty links and stacking tabs. Riff shows you the stories from your sources one at a time, full screen: the headline, the picture, the gist. Interested? Read it right here. Not? Swipe.

YOUR SOURCES, YOUR PACE
• More than 1,000 sources in French and English, switched on in one tap
• Paste the address of a site or an RSS feed to add your own
• Import your subscriptions from another RSS reader with an OPML file: folders become categories
• Playlists: your categories grouped under the name you like, up to 10
• For You: a feed composed on your iPhone from your reading, with “fewer stories like this” one tap away
• Subject: tap it to find the articles that talk about the same subject, in your sources and beyond

The article’s text shows in the app when the publisher makes it freely available. If it is for subscribers only, Riff shows the excerpt and the link: it never gets around a paywall.

AN AI SUMMARY, ONE TAP AWAY
Tap the Riff logo: Apple Intelligence writes a short summary above the article, on your iPhone. Nothing is summarized unless you ask, and the text you read stays the publisher’s. It needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or later), with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Without it, everything else works.

LISTEN (experimental)
Riff reads the article aloud, in French or English, with the voices of your device: the text is sent nowhere. Controls on the lock screen, with headphones and in the car. You need an enhanced or premium voice installed in Settings.

ON IPHONE DUO
Opened and in landscape, the list of articles and the article sit side by side. Swipe from one article to the next, and your watchlist opens on the left. Closed or in split screen, the buttons and the action bar stand down the side.

WATCHLIST AND WIDGETS
• Keep an article in one tap, with its text and its summary: it opens even offline
• Widgets in three sizes on the home screen, and on the lock screen with the number of articles left to read

NO ACCOUNT, NO ADS, NO TRACKING
Riff has no account and no server: your device fetches articles directly from the publishers. Your sources, settings and reading history stay on your iPhone and, unless you turn sync off, in your private iCloud. Export the sources you added yourself (OPML) to open them in another RSS reader.

Riff is free, with no subscription and no in-app purchase.

Articles belong to their publishers: Riff sends you to the source and is not affiliated with any of them. Apple Intelligence is a trademark of Apple Inc.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.3 — 2026-10-28

FIXES AND READING IMPROVEMENTS
• The source and date are no longer repeated below the cover. Reading time appears next to the category.
• The “For You” count, which showed the count for “Whole mix”, has been removed.

FIXES FOR IPHONE DUO
• On the opened screen, the Watchlist button stays at the side when you turn to portrait and back to landscape.
• With the screen half folded, the action bar lines up with the buttons above it again.
• The list beside the article continues to the last available article. Its count matches the selected category or playlist, and read articles are more subdued.

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-25

FIXES FOR IPHONE DUO
• The buttons at the top (Watchlist, category, Settings) no longer stay empty after turning the closed screen or splitting the window.
• On the closed screen, the action bar no longer covers the buttons at the top in landscape, and the app no longer freezes when you hold the phone upside down.
• In the left half of a split screen, the action bar stands in a column on the left, as on the closed screen.
• Turning from portrait to landscape shows the list right beside the article.
• Switching to another app and back no longer draws the article full screen behind the list.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-24

RIFF IS FREE
No more 20-card limit, trial or subscription: read as much as you like, with all of Riff. If you started the trial or subscribed before this version, you can cancel it in your Apple Account settings (Subscriptions): Riff no longer depends on it.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-22

NEW AND IMPROVEMENTS
• Import your subscriptions from an OPML file (Miniflux, FreshRSS, NetNewsWire…): your folders become categories, and a recap shows what was added or skipped.
• Many more articles have their photo on the cover: when the feed gives none, or one too small, Riff takes the one from the article’s page, or a larger copy of the same photo from some publishers.
• The widget now shows For You, your feed composed from what you read, and a new widget opens on it.
• Confirmations and Undo buttons now appear right above the bottom bar, under your thumb, and above the player while you listen to an article.
• In light mode, For You and the app’s green accents use a cleaner emerald green, and its subtitle fits on one line.
• In your Watchlist and in a subject, an article’s menu also offers “About this card”, and in a subject “Follow” for a suggested source; the strip at the top of a subject is narrower and takes you back to the list with a tap.

ON IPHONE DUO
• Unfolded, the list beside the article is made of glass lightly tinted with the article’s colors. Its rows keep their order, the current article is marked in place, and its row stays pinned at the top or bottom as you scroll.
• You can also swipe from one article to the next right in the article pane, beside the list.
• Your Watchlist opens on the left, in place of the article list, and the article you pick shows on the right.
• Turning a closed iPhone Duo no longer freezes the app on some cards with a photo, turning the device no longer leaves a card shifted sideways, and an article read from a subject shows cleanly beside the column.

FIXES
• An article you opened counts as read as soon as you leave it, even when you go back or pick something else.
• In a subject, the “Subject” header no longer jumps when going back to the list, and placeholder cards stay still as the sheet opens.
• Feeds that hold a badly written “&” in an address, like L’Équipe on some days, load again; Food & Sens, whose feed no longer exists, leaves the catalogue.
