Speaking on sync issues, the mechanism to match up your film with the riff seems pretty outdated. Archaic almost. Great riffs, super funny mostly but the tech issues are a bummer. EDIT: Emails were sent to support prior to my review. No response was received and no, it’s not any simple user error thing you mentioned. The other riffs have been fine. The file for the riff in question is corrupted. Fan shouldn’t have to stay on you about these encoding issues for paid riffs. Check your email and follow along with ur iPhone if you like. You’ll see the issue and hopefully fix it. All B movies and shorts. I don’t own a single “Just the Jokes” track and I never do the sync, so obviously the app is not useful to me. D’oh. ### 2/5 — Mixed Feelings *2022-01-30, version 2.6* Love the commentaries, not excited about the app. Seems every movie hits a point where it’s not properly synched and we can’t fix it. The auto-fix isn’t working, and trying to fix by the old “pause/unpause” one and hope it’s fixed also just ends movie night in the teenagers bickering about the lack of match-up, and then it all falls apart. Great idea with the automatic sync, but it isn’t perfect yet. ### 4/5 — Needs Bluetooth Usage Now *2021-12-31, version 2.6* The idea for this genius, really made the process of syncing the audio to movies easy. Major flaw though is it doesn't hook up through Bluetooth and Apple has taken away the audio port... and nobody wants to listen to the riffs on a crappy phone speaker. Look, if you love laughing definitely buy this track, but you'll have to listen from a speaker sitting right by you. I did find a work around by using an iPad (which still had a 3.5mm jack) and connected a speaker to it, playing the app from it. Please update this so it works with any blue tooth or even with my Bluetooth ear buds (so I can listen to it while watching retro movies in the theater, like I used to do). ### 4/5 — Good but I wish all the movies where free *2021-12-09, version 2.6* I wish you could make the cloverfield riff episode free so please make it free just unitl February pretty please hmm ### 2/5 — Friends membership unsupported *2021-12-08, version 2.6* Why doesn’t this app support Friends membership? The only thing ive found that can totally ruin a RiffTrax listen session is if a streaming video times out. Sometimes even disembodio means rewatching a lot of movie. In any case... the apps auto-syncing feature is genius for this case specifically and I would totally use the app exclusively except that once on auto-sync... ...it is not possible to AirPlay the audio to any other speaker or (my preferred Riff listening apparatus) my wireless Beats Solo Pro. So while I can sort of enjoy the feature it’s just within arms reach of something that would really make my Riff watching experience the best. I like to pay full attention to the riff with the film a-la MST3K and another speaker or headphones allow me stay engrossed. My phones speaker is admittedly pretty good and loud but not the same as with the beats headphones + transparency mode... quite possibly the perfect way to experience these and give the guys your full attention during the show (as opposed to the danger of becoming background noise or drowned out by the film) I have nothing but love in my heart for these comedians and always buy directly from the site to ensure maximum profitability for them and it’s just a real let down for me. I feel the app should reasonably be able to play the track (and listen to the microphone) via connected wireless earphones. Plz fix this and I’ll fix that star situation because like I said... no hate at all... just a let down RiffNerd who wants to be able to listen as best I know how. For now I’ll just manually sync with VLC and hope for the best. ### 2/5 — Will not play through Bluetooth headphones *2020-12-31, version 2.5* It breaks my heart to remove this from my phone. I was so excited to use this app. I hadn’t purchased a “just the jokes” in many years since the desktop app stopped working on my computer and now I find out this app exists just to be disappointed that the app will not play through my Bluetooth headphones(which are standard now for iPhones). I get the impression this is a known issue and been that way for a while. Sad to think they haven’t completely redone the app to allow this support. Guess I will hold off on making any more rifftrax purchases. 😞 ### 2/5 — Won’t Play on Bluetooth *2020-09-02, version 2.5* It’s a fine app, but it needs to be able to play over a Bluetooth speaker. No phone is loud enough by itself. We NEED to be able to play the app through a Bluetooth speaker. ### 3/5 — Good app but Bluetooth isn't working *2020-06-29, version 2.3* Was lining up a favorite, Kevin and Weird Al doing Jurassic Park, but I wanted to listen to the Riff via my Bluetooth speaker and each time I opened the app my Bluetooth connection stopped working. When I closed the app the test music I had been streaming started back up on the speaker. I didn't see a setting to say allow Bluetooth. Otherwise the sync generally works and it really does make watching Riffs a delight. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Better when it worked *2026-01-10, version 2.9* I can login to the regular RiffTrax app, no problem. This one? It doesn’t work. Same credentials. Login Failed every time. It used to work a few months ago. It’s a bummer because I bought twenty or so “Just the Riffs”, and now they’re stuck behind a non-working app. 2026 sucks. All the shorts and videos I purchased work in the main app. For some reason there are two apps. ### 1/5 — Seriously? *2023-09-03, version 2.7.2* I loved this app for so long but I can’t even log in anymore. Straight up broken and I’m paying them a monthly service for…….. But, like other people have mentioned, I do wish that there was some accurate way to sync the commentary from the very beginning of the movie, instead of the first bit of dialog. Still, the very fact that you can do this at all is amazing to me and I just love it. So far I've only used it to watch the film "Anaconda". Which, if you haven't done that yet I highly recommend it. I was laughing through the entire movie with their hilarious and clever commentary. Just so funny I thought. But, I have also purchased quite a few that I haven't gotten around to using yet. Either because I don't have the movie or I just don't feel like looking through my over 1200 copies of movies to find it, hehe. I should say too, that for whatever reason I usually have the audio stop during watching a movie at least once on my iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 11.4. It's not all that hard to get it going again. But it is kind of annoying to have to rewind quite a bit back to get it up to speed to where I left off when the audio died off, or rather their commentary track I mean. Sometimes I wonder if it's because I let my phone screen turn off. Yet, it's happened even when I set my screen timeout to "Forever". And this is unrelated to this app, but I really like how some of the Rifftrax movies are available on Amazon Prime Video, thank you for that. I really hope that you'll continue to keep the ones that are there now, like the gut-busting "Samurai Cop" (please do Rifftrax for the Samurai Cop sequels) and continue to add new Prime ones please, thank you. Another great thing about this app is that occasionally the developers/stars, give away free Rifftrax for films. Which is so great and generous of them and I'm really thankful they do that. Though, I would like to request that maybe it not be a limited time thing. I hate when I miss the free ones and can't go back and get them later. But, still, really grateful they even do this, so thank you very much for that generosity in giving away free tracks :). All in all, I'd say that if you like Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan (with Mike, Bill and Kevin) and especially if you enjoy Rifftrax. That this genius and technological marvel of an app is something you might really enjoy. Even if you're not, try it out, you'll be laughing like crazy in no time I think.
