## What is Rilke?

Read Rilke as he wrote: in German, line by line, with the English at your side.

This is a guided edition of the Neue Gedichte, both parts, 1907 and 1908. One hundred seventy-two poems, The Panther and the Archaic Torso of Apollo among them, nothing cut. Tap any line for a clear translation and a word-by-word gloss; tap any word for its form and its job in the line. The grammar is taught from the poems themselves, not from a textbook.

Every poem is read aloud in German. Follow the voice word by word, or let a whole collection play while you listen. When you are ready, say a line back: your reading is scored on your device, and nothing you say leaves it.

You don't need any German to begin. The Study tab holds the Foreign Service Institute's German Basic Course of 1961, transcribed word for word and carried by its own tape recordings, the voices of the speakers who made it. Both volumes, from your first sentence to the German Rilke wrote in.

- Neue Gedichte, both parts: 172 poems, every line beside a clear English translation
- Every word explained: form, meaning, and role in the line
- Every poem read aloud, with word-by-word follow-along and continuous playback
- Pronunciation practice scored on your device; your voice is never stored or sent
- The complete FSI German Basic Course of 1961, its printed text and its own recordings
- Notes on grammar and vocabulary, anchored to the line
- Spoken scenes for the German you will use away from the page
- A Line-of-the-Day widget for your home screen
- Your progress stays on your device, with private iCloud sync across your devices

The first poems are free. One purchase opens the complete edition, yours forever. No subscription, no account, no ads.
